The world of 12" was very different in 1995 when these began. There was not much of a 1/6th market beyond resin garage kits and Kaiyodo or Screamin' vinyl kits.

Yeah, it's reminiscent of what's being discussed in other threads at the moment regarding action figure evolution etc.

It wasn't really till McFarlane started making uber detailed figures, that other companies pulled their fingers out so to speak.

He cops a lot of flack, but he was a trail blazer in that regard.

I'm sure you mean specifically "Star Wars." Because there were all kinds of people already into collecting all kinds of other 1/6 stuff, historical, military, contemporary, etc. Dragon, 21st Century, Hot Toys, Medicom, lots of companies producing stuff back then (and a number in the 90's) too.

Well the desire was there. I collected 1/6th garage kits religiously through the 90's along with some model kits. They were always the primary display choice over something like Hasbro, which I basically kept hidden down in the work den. That is, until Sideshow started with Bond and ultimately got the Star wars license. My collecting completely changed from primarily 3 3/4" to 1/6th almost overnight. My 3 3/4" collection has been stashed in many boxes for the last 14 years.

Yes, I mean Star Wars and general movie licenses -- Alien, Terminator, Batman, etc. I never collected the Dragon military stuff, but I'm not sure that goes back as far as early 1990's, does it?

oh and glad I sold my SS set as I didn't really expect Hot Toys to ever make this it makes me glad I won't have to miss it now.

You gotta wonder about those toy designers. I mean, were they just creating these from memory? And look at the size of those gauntlets! Did they think it was going on the legs and not the arms? Really everything is all out of proportion to each other--was it different people doing different things and they never saw or consulted on what the other was doing? :lol

I think I pretty much had every single on they made until Attack of the Clones came out.... so many. They all sit in crates and have not seen the light of day in at least a decade. Nostalgia will bring me to opening them up at some point...... I have them all stored in my mother's house - I never took them when I moved out haha.

I do not regret buying so many because I had so much fun in the process. I miss the days of hounding Toysrus and other local stores about if they got any new figures in that day. They must have gotten so annoyed with me. The thrill of the hunt is so non existent now because its all online preorders. I can't even hunt for hot toys because all the local shops command such a ridiculous markup compared to the Sideshow cost.

I posted this in the "show us your troops" thread, but I used Hasbro stormie armor/bodysuit (POTJ era) to make this custom stormtrooper (Marmit cast helmet with Hasbro mic/chin plugs.) Forearms/hands are the extra ones from the Marmit sandie though, still unpainted, and obviously the incredibly well done SSC gun.

One man's trash...:lol Until the HT ones arrive, this is the stormie I have on display.
