Back when George knew how to write. Sigh.

Thanks buddy, now I know where we stand.I always thought it was *******.
“Although I write screenplays, I don't think I'm a very good writer.”
―George Lucas
That'd be ideal actually - it's not difficult to decipher in the slightest.... ...
maybe we should just stick with the initials VDG
Honestly not to entirely discredit him but I think that while he had some good ideas other people executed them better on film than he does or did. The original trilogy was more of a collaborative effort whereas the prequel trilogy was basically Lucas and a bunch of yes men and women. Even with the Indiana Jones trilogy I'm convinced that Spielberg kept him in line. Not sure exactly what happened with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull but that definitely felt like a more Lucas influenced film.He used to be a great storyteller, then. Happy?

The PT could have been just fine if Lucas had handed off to a competent team and said "okay, make me some movies"
I think there was alot of cool creations and ideas for the PTs, the movies are just piss poor and it would have been great if someone with a grip on reality had been able to stop gap some of the stupid that made it into the films.
There were some decent ideas in the prequel trilogy but in my opinion telling Vader's backstory and taking away his mystique hurt Star Wars a bit. That and we didn't need three whole films chronicling his young life to his turn to the dark side/transformation to Vader. There were some good ideas just poorly executed for the most part.I always thought that, if they wanted to, Jackson, Cameron and Spielberg would've done the PT justice.

Lucas had more interests in his youth. He liked to share. Then he got old. And focused solely on his one money-making concept. He spent more time designing new toys for hungry young eyes that he overlooked any heart, humor or enlightenment that were a big part of the original trilogy.
I really never had a huge problem with the Ewoks or Return of the Jedi in general I guess. It was less dark than The Empire Strikes Back and a bit more kid friendly but I don't view it as the start of the downfall of Lucas/Star Wars like some do. Its still overall an enjoyable film and a good end to the original trilogy. The problem in my opinion started in 1997 with the special editions of the original trilogy which in turn led to Lucas making endless changes every time the trilogy is released and of course 1999 came along with The Phantom Menace and the start of the prequel trilogy.
It wouldn't be nearly as bad if GL didn't treat the OT - the real OT - like an embarrassment, something beneath him.
Yep, never really got that whole thing, its like having the Mona Lisa in your possession and feeling the need to recolor it with new "hi tech acrylics"
