When you sum it up like this, it reminds me of how good these movies could have been. I wish I could see past the awful stuff and simply enjoy the story

I guess all of this had to happen in order to have dancing Ewoks and grinning ghosts at the end of Jedi. Balance and all that sheet, you know?

Yes, balance. Jar-Jar balances Ewoks. And thankfully George had the foresight to balance the Vader's NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO's so that I could fully understand the meaning of the theme.

Funnily enough that's pretty close to the mark. Lucas said Jedi could only use their "super powers" in short bursts. So that also explains Yoda's acrobatic skills.

Lucas had all this stuff worked out in his head, he just couldn't convey it all on the screen. The key to enjoying the PT is to not overthink it.

It was Lucas who overthought it. The PT, with all that stuff about guilds and trade blockades is the artistic product of a man who has been chairing corporate meetings for twenty years. The Phantom Menace is one long meeting with an executive box seat at a racing event half way through.
