Another weird thing about the prequels was that lightsabers (and saber duels) were so cool and rare in the OT and yet they found a way to make them so commonplace and almost boring. That big fight at the end of ROTS - after two other movies where lightsabers were in nearly every scene and wielded by hundreds of people - was just like "enough already - let's fry him and get the suit on!"

In the OT, even just the igniting of a lightsaber was a "gasp" moment. In the PT, it had to be the most common sound effect used behind lasers.
So true. :lol

:(

I had no issue with Sebastian Shaw. I feel like he showed how vulnerable and human Vader truly was. Seeing him as a ghost in the end made me know that he became a gentle spirit.

Yes, I can understand that was the intention, but it inflamed my adolescent mind-set back then, and it bothers me still... I was fine with the old man inside the suit, that was shocking in a good way, but the ghost should have had more gravitas. Or at least the uncomfortable, slightly apologetic look that Hayden had. Like someone who felt he wasn't sure he deserved to be there. It worked perfectly for me.

I can assure you - you won't burn in hell for that.

Hell is way too good for someone with that opinion.

:lol

Kinda inevitable when the prequels are set during the "prime of the Jedi".

Indeed. The whole idea was to show off the Jedi, both in their prime and how fallible they had become.
The OT is all about the mystique of those old warriors of legend coming back.

Also, Lucas probably felt it needed explaining why our heroes went from chasing the troopers to beating a hasty retreat. In the comic adaptation it was explained that the troopers had thought they were outnumbered till they reached a dead end and turned around.

Comic adaptation? That's what the MOVIE indicated plain as day.

The Jabba on the left is the one true Jabba. It didn't shatter our image of the notorious space gangster on the right whatsoever. Not one bit. :lecture

Right: Jabba the Hutt

Left: Eric Cartman the Hutt

The transformation from Somersault Yoda to Walking Stick Yoda brought out the guffaws in the cinema I was at. The PT... so many guffaws.

Re: Hot Toys Stormtrooper.

Why does one look taller then the other? Is this suppose to represent Luke and Han as Stormtrooper once we get Han's head sculpt if we want.

Lightsabers do not a Jedi make.:lecture:lol

For me, the visual of hundreds of Jedi wielding lightsabers could have been awe-inspiring - but because it was in nearly every preceding scene is was just overkill and "meh."

Mr. "wars not make one great" winning the MTV Movie Award for "Best fight"... and the "representin' my peeps" speech... so ten years ago, so many guffaws - even outside the movies themselves.

This list is something I'd really have to sit down and think about, but in terms of "Things the PT ****ed Up", that's near the top for me. The guy could lift up X-Wings with The Force. His ridiculous Force powers (and wisdom / patience / etc) are what should have made him badass. Instead, we're meant to assume he used to be some methed-up howler monkey.

The really sad / hilarious thing, is that in the documentary stuff for AOTC, George even lays it out:

"The last thing I want for it to look like is a little green frog guy bouncing around. If it had been like a muppet - like Kermit, the whole thing would fall under the weight of it.."

..or some such.

Just funny beyond words - it looks EXACTLY like what he was trying to NOT make it be. :lol

He said that seriously? Priceless! No living being can be THAT deluded, so he must be a true genius of humour. The whole PT is one huge comedic scheme. It's the only explanation.

Yep - a good portion of that is verbatim. I've got the 2DVD set of AOTC - haven't watched the extras in a while, but they're great actually.

Just do a search on Youtube, the Yoda stuff might be there.

In parts the PT dialogue rivals the Blobermouth version of The Blob. It takes a lot to make the dialogue in the OT look good in places, but the PT accomplishes just that.
