Well to be fair, our expectations for these figures was probably a lot lower back then too. Now that we've seen just how good they can look, we've suddenly all gotten a whole lot pickier. And grumpier.

I think that is true. I was just reading michael Crawford's review of the old iron man mark III, it's pretty funny when he discusses the head sculpt. If hot toys did that today there would be a class action lawsuit.

Is this (or will this) carded figure available at all, or just a one-off custom?

If not, I actually think this and that "Kenner-style" lactating sea cow custom creature someone made (with Luke and milk bottle) would actually sell at places like Thinkgeek.

These are products based on TLJ that I'd actually buy.

Yes, anger has been the driving force for many custom figures over the years.

Man those custom cards are impressive. Really scary if you are a vintage collector. Probably fakes galore out there.

Yes, I have now almost sold off my entire vintage collection (carded/boxed, keeping most loose, but selling all the rarer loose figs.) Very, very good fakes was definitely becoming an issue.

I think Carrie Fisher would have loved that. I could see her walking onstage looking just like that for laughs.

In all honesty, I can see Thinkgeek doing stuff like this. I know things are a bit touchy with TLJ right now, but in a few months, people will want to have fun with stuff like Luke and the lactating sea cow and Leia Poppins. Because it's funny and fans would buy them.

I mean we get split-belly Tauntaun sleeping bags or Wampa oven mitts, why not genuinely fun stuff like this instead of obvious Porg-type stuff that are going to be the next layer of landfill over the 80's plush ewoks. Companies like Thinkgeek trade on having fun with SW and pushing the envelope a bit.

But maybe SW now has to be this leaden thing where poking fun at it insults someone. Like Robot Chicken can mock Palps but Just-for-Men Luke and Love-crash Rose are off limits.

I loved the movie, but even if I didn't the idea of having the original trio on display together would be too irresistible not to get it anyway.
