Switching the head sculpt to TFA body immediately when I got it from Secret Base. No doubt, this is the perfect Luke I’ve been looking for.

Yeah that does look a whole lot better. Although for me it's still just too boring an outfit for Luke for me to want to get, especially with it being so bright and clean compared to the movie.

If I were to have just one representation of old Luke as he actually was in the films (not as a Force projection), I think my favorite combination would be TFA outfit with the Jedi Master robes, TLJ sculpt, and the brown right gloved hand.

I’d have him posed with TFA Han and TLJ Leia.

Sometimes I wish I had the passion for this new trilogy that some of you do. But I just don't care.

I will go into Episode 9 much like my parents went to 'Return of the Jedi': little interest but hope to be entertained for a couple hours.

This 100%. I am not trying to sound arrogant or putting anyone down for not liking TLJ. But I can say with confidence, being involved with the things I am... that TLJ was ahead of its time. If you didn't like it, I don't think you understood it properly(try not to take that as an insult please) its not saying you are dumb, just you weren't ready for the change it presented. Like the post above mentions, you had an idea where you wanted the story to go and it went the the opposite way. It will have a renaissance just like the prequels are experiencing right now. Count on it.

:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

Basically, "If you didn't like the TLJ, you're just an ***** but don't take it personal..."

That would look pretty cool. I wish his white Jedi robes were a little more weathered on the figure. I think you'd probably have to swap the body (or at least the right arm), since the TFA figure has a special peg for the right hand right? Or maybe it's just further back. I look forward to seeing people try it out, though.

I wouldn't say I'm hugely passionate about the ST myself, but I enjoy them and like having the figures to pose and display. Much like I'm not really a Marvel guy (and think most of the movies are just sort of okay), but have a huge collection anyway just because of how cool those figures and costumes look on display.

That’s pretty much how I approach it.

I just take it as a film by film, episode by episode basis. Some I really like, some I don’t particularly like. I like the entire OT, but within it, some I like more than others.

Maybe I’ll like the next one better.

That’s kind of what I do as well.

Even if I didn’t like a film overall, that doesn’t mean I won’t get anything from it. If there’s components of it that I did like (whether that be characters, outfits, etc), I just get those components of it to have on display.

Looks great. I'm really pleased with the new head sculpt for this release. Might have to eventually pick up a second to make this too lol

Why it bothers me so much is I hated the prequels. Such a disappointing set of films overall with very few redeeming qualities. Flash forward ten years later and The Force Awakens comes along. Is it brilliant or entirely original? No, but it’s damn entertaining and fun and really felt like a good way to kind of restart the franchise.

Then The Last Jedi comes and I won’t lie at first I didn’t mind it. As time has gone by though and I think about aspects of it and have watched it more I realize how frustrating it is. I felt like this trilogy could have been a worthy follow-up, but instead it’s becoming yet another disappointment. It just sucks because there were some interesting things posed and to have them discarded is just not satisfying. The problem is if Johnson wanted to subvert expectations he needed to do so in a way that would have been as interesting or more so than what was posed to us. Instead though all he really does is throws things out and it’s like we just shouldn’t care, but as a fan of the franchise and of the previous film and its characters that doesn’t work for me. It’s a really irritating situation to be in as someone who wants to like all these films.

Anyways I’ll end my rant on the film for now. The unboxing and overview of the figure makes it look like it’s at least going to be a worthy addition to my collection. Sculpt looks great and the accessories are cool. I do kind of agree that the outfit isn’t my favorite and I do somewhat regret not getting The Force Awakens version despite the inferior sculpt as I like the outfit more.

I think the sculpt got a bit softer, I guess naturally, but he also seems to have inherited Crait Luke's tall forehead. Don't recall the prototype having that to such an extent. Still looks good though.

Yeah it's definitely softer, although it actually reminds me a lot more of the Jeff Bridges TFA sculpt now. Although I guess it's still a slight improvement.

And what the heck happened to all the weathering?? His outfit looks brand new now. :(

Yeah, it certainly has some issues but this came out pretty damn nice. But yeah - Luke seems to have done some laundry and clean-up since we last saw him. Or went to the hippo-nun clothing swap meet. Very little weathering.

Just where did you think that blue milk the entire Lars clan was drinking in ANH came from?

The grocery store?

Do you drink milk? It comes from animal breasts you know......

How people got so worked up over that I can never understand. It was a montage to show how he was living day to day.

People who grow up making their own food on a farm were non plussed....I guess it only bothers those who think meats come from a magic factory in saran wrap....instead of....you know....

Sent from the inside of a giant slug in outer space.....

Cows have udders, as do pretty much every animal that humans drink milk from.

For some reason they decided that what Luke would milk/drink from was going to be... umm... more breast than udder shall we say?

This still from the making of doc pretty much says it all...

Was there ever an explanation for what Luke is actually doing at the end of TFA (and beginning of TLJ) - sort of standing and seemingly waiting there dressed like that, in this clean, white ceremonial outfit - that he immediately changes out of, never to see it again?

He's like a peasant parent who knows his daughter is returning home from the big city so gets into his traditional ceremonial outfit to greet her - all solemn and stoic - only to go back to his hovel and change back into his peasant work clothes, his stoic-ness becoming bitter sarcasm as he gets back to the daily slog of his grimy life. All that's missing is a bottle of home-made vodka, a precious handful of illegal cigarettes and a small lump of boiled meat of undefined origin. That and maybe Rey seeing Borat's sister emerging from Luke's X-Wing door the next morning.

I believe someone said that the TLJ novelization stated that he was preparing to burn the tree before Rey arrived but that she snapped him out of his funk causing him to put it off once again as he'd done so many times before.

I may do the same, the new head sculpt looks better. Can anyone do a side by side comparison?

The explanation given was that he was "performing a last jedi ritual" or something in the novel or visual book, I think. Basically it's implied in the books that he contemplated/tried burning the tree and stuff numerous times and has never been able to do it, which is also shown later when he goes as far as lighting a torch and then still can't do it. I'm not too sure what JJ was going for beyond suspense with that in TFA tbh. If he knew Rey was coming or whatever and (for some reason) wanted to dramatically turn around and be like yo it's me, the surprise and like wtf on his face doesn't make sense. If he's honestly surprised by her being there, which is how it comes across in TFA, then why is he just chilling on the edge of the mountain lol

Yeah this. "Ahead of it's time" lolz! Anybody who can't see the genius redeeming qualities of this trash film must be an unsophisticated dolt who will clearly have egg on his/her face in the future. Give me a break.

Keep waiting for that "renaissance" in the future. I have news for you. Kids now don't watch Saturday morning cartoons or enthusiastically collect toys/action figures. They watch YouTube, surf the internet, and have iPads and Xbox.

You'd kind of think a "I'm heading out to burn a tree" outfit would be more like his normal dirty outfit plus gas can.:lol

It's hard to understand what that even means though as because - as I understand it - the tree itself is nothing but a hollowed out old tree, ie the tree itself is not significant (ie this tree was not some kind of "Jedi library" of the distant past). And the books in it were books that Luke himself assembled over time - I assume in his travels - and then put into the tree when he arrived, he didn't find them there. Why he chose to store them in an old tree instead of in his hut is unclear.

So I guess this "I'm burning the tree down" thing is kind of odd given that it's simply an old tree (albeit on a historically significant island) and he could just take the books out and do whatever he wants with them. It's a bit like storing the Magna Carta in a garden shed and then dramatically saying "I'm going to burn down the garden shed".

The tree is supposed to be the first Jedi temple, I think. Or maybe the little village in general was the whole temple, but if I had to guess I'd assume it was the tree. Han mentions how those who knew Luke best thought he went to go find the first temple, and that's what the map in TFA leads to (the temple, not Luke). Which is also why the whole "We have the other part of the map recovered from the archives of the empire" line in TFA works. If it were a literal map to Luke, that wouldn't make sense.

Anywayyyyy - I'm pretty sure the tree is the actual "temple" of the first Jedi, that might be confirmed in the book I don't remember. I'm not sure if it's explicitly stated anywhere if Luke found the books there or if he brought them, but I think the intention is that they were there. He definitely didn't make the books. When Yoda burns the tree and Luke is like, dude you just burnt the sacred texts! The "read them have you? page turners, they were not" line implies Luke didn't write them. I also believe that them being ancient and some of the first jedi texts is in the visual dictionary, I just can't recall if it is stated that they were on the island or not initially. I would also be interested to know that if anyone can chime in haha :)

Just found these:

https://www.starwars.com/databank/ahch-to-library
https://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tree_library

Seems like it's just a tree by those sources. And Luke assembled the books, he didn't find them there - which is what I originally assumed when I saw the movie, but it seems it's all pretty hazily thought out.
