And Luke assembled the books, he didn't find them there - which is what I originally assumed when I saw the movie, but it seems it's all pretty hazily thought out.

Just found these:

Seems like it's just a tree by those sources. And Luke assembled the books, he didn't find them there - which is what I originally assumed when I saw the movie, but it seems it's all pretty hazily thought out.

Okay, so he did find them and bring them to the island. Interesting. I think assembled just means he found them and brought them all there though, I don't think he wrote them. I'd be interested to know which parts of the island exactly are the temple. I'll have to look back into the visual dictionary, it's been a long time.
EDIT: Just looked it up, the temple is the stone structure they go into (not sure why I didn't think of that) that had the little pond thing in the middle: https://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/First_Jedi_Temple for anyone wondering.
Here's a so-so comparison of the two head sculpts with pics from eBay.

TLJ sculpt is definitely better IMO.
I agree TLJ one is definitely a step up, but that pic you posted of the TFA one looks washed out by flash. The paint of the TLJ hair looks much better to me, the TFA one suffers a bit from that metallic finish HT sometimes inexplicably uses.

Burning books has all kinds of meaning and symbolism.
Yeah for sure, the TFA doesn't look that bad in hand - just posted the first results I could find really lol. My main issues with the TFA sculpt were the eyes off to the side and the metallic hair that reminded me of the Figuarts Luke.
Another small thing of note - not sure if it's just the lighting in the previews, but it looks like the Crait Luke has more of a matte finish on the gloves than this figure. So, while they're the same hands, not sure if they'll actually be painted the same.
Except in a movie series where books (and pens or paper for that matter) have never been seen before - for any purpose.
Honestly, TLJ has two paths now. Either it universally remains a fissure for Star Wars fans or Episode 9 is so well written that it elevates it. But then again Episode 9 could be award winningly good and hit every point every person has wanted and Star Wars fans will dislike it because no one hates the franchise more than Star Wars fans. So who knows.
Jedi Rey and Master Luke on a shelf makes for wonderful EU-esque content or film representative display. I love this look for Luke, it reminds me of Ezio from Revelations compared to his younger self. I have a soft spot for the older, wiser incarnations of the characters I grew up with. Maybe it's natural that as I age and learn to contend with the world, fail, succeed, and try to leave a better impact in one way or another I'd connect with such imagery.
Master Luke will get the spare green saber from my ROTJ Luke and it'll look awesome (it'll match his milk, duh); I would have done that regardless of what I think of TLJ because that's how I've always seen the character at this point.
Yet here they are. Established for one sole purpose: to be burned.
I was wondering why the figure came with a blue lightsaber. Actually I’m surprised it came with a lightsaber at all.
