Re: Hot Toys - TMS - The Mandalorian: Moff Gideon Collectible Figure

After Lando, Stormie Han, and the latest Ant-Man, no thanks. Definitely not a good gamble for a villain anyhow (thinking of happy Palpatine here).

You just need good overhead lighting for Palps, and that turns into a very nasty grin.

I hope he has a sideways glance!

Re: Hot Toys - TMS - The Mandalorian: Moff Gideon Collectible Figure

I would totally buy a Grievous. I'm one of the three guys who actually liked his silly fiendishness. "You fool..."

Grievous is far from who I think of when I hear "cool villain". His head design looks inspired by one of those wooden shoe stretchers. :D

Re: Hot Toys - TMS - The Mandalorian: Moff Gideon Collectible Figure

Oh no... they used Lando's mouth. :horror

Almost like he's got slightly more smirk than Lando. Might look a bit Al Sharpton if they go too far with it.

Really though? Palps looks like a scrotum, what of it?

So maybe Palps could turn his head and Grievous could cough.:lecture:lol

Re: Hot Toys - TMS - The Mandalorian: Moff Gideon Collectible Figure

He definitely has his share of upward glances and smirks... Great scribe though...

Point taken lol. My introduction to him was in ROTS and I found him too cartoonish to ever take seriously as a big bad. I now know that he WAS a cartoon character first (TCW), but that hasn't changed my opinion of him. He was a lackey created for Palpatine to bridge the gap between Dooku and Vader. Knowing he doesn't survive didn't help his case, which is one of the problems with the PT and prequels in general. Plus in TPM and AOTC it was "there is always two - master and apprentice", then in ROTS all of a sudden there's no apprentice but rather this wacky, four-lightsaber-wielding cyborg as Palps's 2nd in command leading the clone army. And where was Palps hiding him? Given how ruthless they made him, there's no way he rose through the ranks of the Republic's army through conventional means. IMO a brief appearance in AOTC to set the stage for his rise to prominence would have helped make him more believable.

So maybe Palps could turn his head and Grievous could cough.:lecture:lol

Re: Hot Toys - TMS - The Mandalorian: Moff Gideon Collectible Figure

I find Moff Gideon's bad hair very distracting. Seriously. It just doesn't look right for an Imperial. Had the same problem with Bodhi's long locks in Rogue One.

Yeah, I never really took him for a Big Bad... just a side villain. Like Fett in ESB or Fortuna in ROTJ or Gunray in TPM. Not every villain can be a bad ass. Grievous was along the moustache-twirling lines like Sebulba. But I had waited decades for a principal droid villain... and finally he was here.

I never liked that cough though, nor its stupid origin in the over-rated cartoon. Give him a sick limp would have been looked better.

Re: Hot Toys - TMS - The Mandalorian: Moff Gideon Collectible Figure

Yeah I found Grievous pretty cringeworthy at the time, but like everything else with the prequels I may be tempted to buy anyway once I see how cool the HT figure looks. Since it does have the potential to look pretty badass on display...

He wasn't actually a droid though, was he? I thought he was some weird species and was outfitted with a slew of cybernetic enhancements. Sort of the SW version of Steve Austin. Oh wait, that's Vader. OK, I guess that makes Grievous SW's Jamie Sommers. :lol

Re: Hot Toys - TMS - The Mandalorian: Moff Gideon Collectible Figure

Not exactly a droid... but checks that box, since he's just eyes and a gut from whoever he was originally. Kind of like B'Omarr Monk.

But then, in 1977, I understood that the stormetroopers were clones... and then that got retconned into a mix of recruits and clones.

Like WHO? You guys are killing me with these obscure references. :lol

(Spider droids carried the B'omarr monks' brains around in goldfish bowls).

Yes I got that from a quick google search but 2 seconds of screen time in ROTJ doesn't even warrant a name in my book, let alone a detailed backstory. :slap

Of course, now that I've said that one of these monks will become a key character in The Mandalorian. :lol

Buff, did you never collect the Hasbro 3 3/4" inch line? Most of my knowledge of these obscure references come from those days of collecting those and finding out that the wolfman in the cantina was named "Lak Sivrak"...

Sorry, I was a college grad and married by the time ROTJ came out, so I was well past my toy collecting phase. :lol

Lak Sivrak?? Ridiculous! The Wolfman was Larry Talbot. Everyone knows that. Ask Wor-Gar if you don't believe me. :wink1:

Yeah with the PT actual story and film experience long forgotten for me, I've found I can appreciate the designs and perhaps have figures. JarJar and Watto are classic examples of just having total amnesia about the onscreen character and just appreciating the creature design.

You do however get stuck with cheesy names on the nameplates that conjure stuff like a grievously mauled Tyrannosaurus, but I guess look past that.:lol

Re: Hot Toys - TMS - The Mandalorian: Moff Gideon Collectible Figure

Ah, Buffinator... finally someone older than me. But I'm still old enough to know who Larry Talbot is.

And many of the original Mos Eisley residence were from Lost in Space, even that wolfman.

I'll admit, I learned about many background creatures from either the resurgence of toys after 1995 or from the many volumes of Essential Guides to and other Creature Directories that were released.

Really? I didn't know that! What, was Lucas trying to save $ by using whatever costumes were already available on the lot? :lol
