for operatives on their sneaking missions, to honor naked snake since he was the 1st spy that got it. Only liquid and solid
were ever given it though.

Solid Snake was born David, later given codename Solid Snake by the secret project. So technically speaking the Big Boss's Snake & Solid/Liquid/Solidus's Snake Codename are given in different manner, one can say they inherited the codename which was determined by the project team, a project that was created by the Patriots, the same Patriots that created the A.I which gave Raiden his Snake codename.

Just now someone was insisting Snake codename must be within Foxhound ranks, which some dismissed when i mention about Solidus, now can we all agree that the codename Snake was simply given by the same group under different names including the one given to Raiden by GW, part of the Patriots AI? Or do we still want to see Raiden as an Outcast among the Snakes? Sure he ditched his Snake in preference of Raiden, but fact is he was once a Snake, just like Big Boss.

Big Boss wasn't manufactured, the three Snakes were. They were designated names at birth. They didn't immediately name Snake, David from the beginning. David, George Sears are merely aliases to create an illusion to hide what they really are. Liquid and Solidus knew of what they were, from a young age probably. They never go by anything but their designated codename, because it's their name.

You're also reading too much into Raiden's Snake codename. Did you even play MGS2?

Also are we sure there aren't other clones prior to those 3, which probably turned out to be failed experiments? Are we sure David was not a given name for an uncertain piece of experiment like how people call Subject #011 or some 10digit designation and only until the experiment was proven a success they start giving them a Snake codename?

there was only 6 successful clone eggs made but the other four were sacrificed to make solid and liquid more advanced and superior.
Liquid got the dominant genes and solid the recessive genes that were considered less potent BB traits. Solidus was created by the
patriots in secret just before the project was shut down, he was the last clones ever made.

Solidus is the youngest, and was engineered to age faster to create a quicker Big Boss duplicate sooner I assume.

yes i have all the MGS games 1-4 actually, the HD collection doesn't include MGS1 though so not sure why u posted that comment.
I want to play the original MGS again but not with ps1 graphics.

If there were other experiments, it would of been known by now. Anything beyond what Liquid spoke of, is reaching for some further explanation.

I would like Solidus's origins cleared up though. Our only real knowledge of him, is more from Raiden than anything else... and he's already a man at that point in the 80s.

but in the end, whether it's Jack Snake, David Snake, Classified Snake, George Snake or the other Jack Snake, all the Snake codenames/realnames as you see fit are given under the Patriots authority including Naked Snake back when Zero was in FOX, whom later became the leader of Patriots, which was probably his ideas for giving out all the Snake codenames.

i can see the prejudice on Raiden, despite many likes him (or don't despise him), takes it as an insult to Big Boss & his 3 sons for being seen as a Snake.

I'm sure if it weren't for all the confusion Raiden wouldn't have been called Raiden and instead kept the codename Snake for the rest of the series.

i think at the end game in MGS1, some blank screen with voice talking about someone talking to the president, something about he still believes he's the inferior one, which i assume they are talking about Solid, since Solid always has some sort of low self esteem compared to Liquid. In MGS4 we can clearly see Solid Snake has the more superior genes, alright it's unfair to compare a person against a hand, but in MGS1 Solid show superiority over Liquid.
