I have a bud who got into props about the same time I got into high-end collectibles. While the initial buy-in is not cheap, he's amassed a substantial collection through buying and flipping to buy more. For him, he hits up the backwoods auction houses and buys stuff for cheaper, then sells it to a more appropriate audience at 3-4 and sometimes 10x the price.
cool. Yah i love movie props, but I have only bought Nolan's Batman Begins stuff. After Begins came out, I was like "I WANT THAT SUIT". Then did some research to find out if you could buy one and I came across the artist Bob Dullam. He is the one who built the 1:1 Tumbler with BobbyC's help. He also made the Batman Begins suit. So i contacted him found out the cost and saved money for about a year to pay for it. Then i stumbled across a entire on-line community that collects and makes replica parts to ALL the Batman suits. So some specialize in the Nolan suit Begins/TDK. So i wound up collecting all of the entire suit accessories and everything.
Its been a lot of fun. A lot of hassle too because your dealing with commissioning artists who make the stuff on their own time. So it take a long time to get all the pieces. Its been over a year and still waiting on a few items to be finished.
There isnt a ton of screen used stuff from Begins/TDK out there. Prop Store of London has some stuff, but not a lot. And anything from Nolan's Batman will go for a premium price.
If you ever watch SyFy's 'Holywood Treasure', its a really fun show to watch if you like movie props. I love that show!!!!
