The DX WAS in fact designed to be an exclusive rare piece. That was the INTENT from the beginning. Otherwise Denny would have cast 100 instead of 35 or 40 or whatever the final number was before destroying the original sculpt to put the hat on it. That's the nature of the 1/6 collecting world. Every once in a while a piece gets made that is sought after and rare. Hell, i would love a Rainman Marla or Stansfield but those figures are impossible to find. Even the early Iminime release for se7en is almost impossible to find nowadays.

Many collectors wanted a DX and the demand for it dictated that it would only have been fair to up the edition to previous DX edition numbers like that of Bateman etc. If there was an extra mold, and paying collectors wanted it, wouldn't it have been the generous thing to share it in an attempt to up the DX's a bit? By that logic, maybe Betomatali could do the same with some of his rarer sculpts like the recent Jason fullset and Beetlejuice.

Why so defensive? Please don't direct your frustration towards me. It was publicly commented on these boards to us that the only reason the DX could not be extended to more than just a measly 36 sets was because the mold for a hatless didn't exist any longer due to it being destroyed in the casting process. but I can surely tell the resin will be
deformed a lot from casted head.
it will change the original image much.

The sad thing is that it is not the people on this board that keep a re-caster from continuing what they are doing, it is people who don't frequent this board and have no idea. They won't be able to tell the difference between what the sculpt should look like and the deformed look Denny mentioned. They are who keeps Q in business.

And to support that a bit, I frequently get messages on eBay from folks who want to make offers on my 1/6 scale stuff. When they do that, if I'm interested, I ask if they have a Sideshow Freaks account so we can talk here instead of via eBay's message system. About half the time they don't. And when they do, they often don't have a very high post count and aren't well known here. And these are usually U.S.-based collectors. So my first hand impression is that there are a lot of folks out there who simply will have no idea about the problems associated with Q, or even with what Iminime is doing, and will happily shell out money for cool sculpts, none the wiser.

Don't kid yourself. There are plenty of people here who fully support these ********* recasters, too. They might pretend they don't, but on occasion they get exposed via a post, ebay feedback, someone outing them, or an accidental shot of a recasted piece in a collection picture.

If you follow his threads he is actually in the process of doing this as well to try and combat this. I helped set up a thread for an offering of Jason 3 sculpts in an effort to combat some of the recasting.

Yeah, but those were all his older Jason sculpts as I understood it, and not part of the recent fullsets. Good on him if he's doing that with the more popular, current sculpts as you suggest he should.

So what does that leave ? The illigit recaster

As some of the guys have pointed out perhaps sculpts are not the best choice for an exclusive item: The are a predominent piece and easy to replicate.

Something unique and handmade might be better. eg. a wooden pipe or shovel or metal spurs or wood cross (tombstone)
