The difference between this and Faramir is they won't be overproducing this. They are definately past the stage of making too many units of these type releases. I won't be surprised if this release totals 3,000.

Thats fine with me. People ^^^^^ and moan about their figures dropping in price so if they start producing less then their market value should hold at least.

I thought that was Belloq?

:lecture :lol Honestly, I have no desire to pick this guy up whatsoever. If I did, I would've bashed him. I hope Sideshow tosses in a headsculpt of the German dude that Indy punked for the uniform. I'd pick him up to display as a German, though, hopefully they'll include a smaller body too as if accurate, the coat should be too small and Indy shirtless. We'll see! :lol

Seriously, if this were announced as an SDCC Exclusive I doubt there'd be much of a fuss. Instead, this reaks of...

"Look! The line is not dead!! But we're not offering Mola Ram, Map Room Indy, Marion or other figures you guys actually want. Instead, here's an Indy figure that none of you need or want from us!!!!"

:monkey1

Not sure what you mean. Faramir had nothing to do with the LOTR line ending as far as the character choice goes. Some paint issues with him may not have helped but it wasn't the selection.

I'd really disagree with that.

If they had bothered doing the SIMPLE and EASY work of releasing some bad guys for that line, they could have done Faramir later on.. but doing him so early, and continuing to ignore the bad guys.. REALLY screwed that line over.

Was it his fault alone?
No.
But the decision to go with him, when you take a freakin year to release your figures.. well.. i think any of us would have liked to maybe have completed the damn fellowship before Faramir the Tan came into play..

Lets hope they are messing around and are actually going to toss in a Marion figure with good old German Indy! :duh

I think the demise of 1:6 LOTR was a bit more complex and I do believe that Faramir was part of that demise, though not the soul cause. But that has been discussed ad nauseum here.

I think the Lorne is perhaps a better comparison though.

It's funny that people keep blaming Faramir. Makes me wonder if they were even really LOTR fans/collectors in the first place. :huh If he'd come out perfect, I seriously doubt people would've bailed on the line. Likewise, he'd have gone unmentioned had we gotten an Uruk-Hai or an Orc or Saruroman. So to keep bringing that up is benign. Naturally, like pretty much all the other lines, true fans, if not interested, would've just skipped Faramir and picked up the others. But the fact that Gandalf and the Hobbits, arguably some of Sideshow's BEST work in 1:6, were left rotting on the website (they're long sold out now but for entirely different reasons so don't go there :lol) backs up the ADD/Bandwagon thoughts and semi-justifies Sideshow's abandonment. I think it was a combination of only three things and in this order: Sideshow's poor release schedule, a lack of villains and ADD fans.

I dunno. I think this is more akin to a Rebel Fleet Trooper or Captain Antilles. It's a little filler-ish, but I think it is to show that the line is moving forward and still alive. I'm sure we'll get a more popular character at SDCC.

I'm glad to see this figure and I will absolutely get him. I actually prefer this Indy incarnation to the Tux TOD Indy people here are proposing, if we're talking about variants that could easily be kit-bashed. I think the German disguise is more interesting than a white tux. In fact, I would have been pretty disappointed if they had announced Tux Indy and would probably pass unless his accessories or exclusive were must-haves (like a flaming chicken shish-kebab, Nurhachi vessel, diamond, or antidote. Or even the giant gong!).

For all you Indy fans I hope its a move forward.

Had the SW line failed after Quigon I am sure people would have been blaming Kit Fisto for its demise. :lol

Disagree entirely there. Lorne was an essential and visually interesting member of Angel's team. Just because it wasn't Wesley doesn't mean Lorne doomed the line.

This isn't SW, though... it's INDY. This line will never be as big, robust and healthy as SW so it's foolish to have even one Rebel Trooper or Captain Antilles in this line.

maybe the exclusive or even just a regular accessory will be a greman soldier head sculpt?

then they'd be able to sell it to everyone that wants german soldiers and everyone who wants indy

I agree with Irish on this.

SW has real strong legs. It can afford the Lorne's, the Faramir's, and the variants without getting in the way of potential future (and more critical) characters.

Indy can't support that kind of character choice. I hope I am wrong though. I really want a robed Belloq and a good Marian.

I guess this is selfish, but I can't afford for Sideshow to become Hot Toys. I don't like paying $140 for figures no matter how amazing they are, I can hardly afford (justify) the $80.

I'd actually accept a notch backwards in quality and an increase in edition sizes if it meant $60 figures again.

When did Sideshow move forward in quality? As far as I am concerned, none of the current releases are any better in detail or quality than Jedi Luke.

The Prometheus and armored bodies have just as many faults as improvements, so in the end, they are no better than the Buck. At least with the Buck, I have reliable tight joints.

Sculpts are more accurate thanks to Trevor Grove. But Andy, Tim, and Oluf did an excellent job from the beginning.

Tailoring has never improved which is sad because, to me, costume detail is just as important as the head and hands.

Yeah it sucked to see a figure you paid $60 sell for $45...Now we pay $90 to make sure it only drops in value to $60.....:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

I agree, quality hasn't risen dramatically. Everyone always argued that SSC prices were going up due to rising fuel costs and such, not rising quality. I guess I'm saying, if those rising costs are indeed the reason for increased prices, then I'm willing to go backwards from early SSC figures in order to maintain prices in the $50-$60s again.
