could always go the Isaiah Bradley route (of course most of us are sure they wont) I doubt Smith (although In my opinion is a great entertainer) will play steve rogers, however if he did...I'd watch it...dunno if I'd like it but I'd watch it....now mike comes and steals my thunder....again
Actually Kevin Feige mentioned that side storylines like TRUTH where the Isaiah Bradley piece comes from isn't out of the realm of possibilties once the major characters are hit. That is when the Will Smith rumors began and well have taken a life of their own which Feige isn't discounting now...he said he wants a star with international appeal.
the question isn't should will smith play CA, should CA be black? I personally could care less.
Its a weird line. While people scream that its racist NOT to want Will Smith to play Cap they'd have no problem if someone said "Robert Downey Jr. should play Martin Luther King Jr." smashing it down. They'd say but he is real and they'd be their excuse but the point is that Steve Rogers is white, that is how he was created and that is how he should be played, just like Rhodes in Iron Man is black and I'd be pissed if he was played by a white guy.
Can Daniel Craig do an American accent? Fair point about Smith's serious roles, I'm not a big movie goer so I haven't seen any of those movies. If he can pull the role off I'm fine with him in the role.
Many linguists have said that its easier to teach an English person an American Accent than the other way around. As for Smith, he can play serious when he needs to but he more often than not plays Will Smith. Captain America won't be full of puns but won't be Citizen Kane either, there will be comedic elements and once those lines hit Smith's mouth he won't be able to control himself.
the main guy from '300' could play CA???? i just want the HOT TOYS WAR MACHINE!!
Not famous enough...yet.
wait a minute CA is going to played by Will Smith?
Just a rumor that has amazing legs so far.....
you forgot Ali! he captured "THE CHAMP" completely in that movie, not to mention he gained the 30 pounds for the role and had studied the champs boxing techniques so he could mimic them perfectly, Will Smith does not get enough credit on these boards, seriously.
Will Smith CAN act in serious roles, still don't like him but I'll give that credit. When comedy comes around though he can help but be the Fresh Prince all over the place. I don't see them making a ultra serious Captain America film and I see it falling more in the vain of Iron Man except Captain America being the straightman and others making jokes off of him similar to his portrayal in ULTIMATES, I don't see Will Smith being able to be the straightman, he needs to be the comedy and it'd fail....just MHO.
I give Smith credit for being a good actor but he shouldn't be Captain America. Steve Rogers is white.
I have to agree. It isn't racist just that it doesn't really work when switched up. James West was white and Wild Wild West was horrific and Smith was over the top. Remember I am Legend? Another race reversal that just didn't work, why because Smith is black? No, because Smith couldn't harness the same feel and atmosphere as Heston plain and simple. Remember Kingpin? Michael Clarke Duncan is fantastic and I love seeing him on screen but he didn't work in Daredevil. Don't get me started on Halle Berry's debacle of Catwoman.
If Will Smith announced that he was going to play Superman in the next film would people have a problem with it? I think so, just like if they made a John Stewart in the GL movie that was a blond blue eyed white guy.
My top pick for Cap? Alexander Skarsgård.
The guy is massive and has that brooding look and feel that'd be perfect. Problem? He isn't famous enough and Kevin Feige specifically said he wants an International Superstar as the man in the red, white and blue.
So, I'm going to say it. Leonardo DiCaprio. The guy is amazingly famous to the point where he is still being followed around despite not being relevant for a while and he at his thinnest looks like Steve Rogers before the SS Serum. If he bulks up AND has a director that is willing to keep him under wraps I think he could surprise everyone.
Although if I were Feige, I'd be calling Skarsgard right now.
