I give Smith credit for being a good actor but he shouldn't be Captain America.

Steve Rogers is white.

Think about it, would a bunch of old, top white Generals in WWII pick a smart mouthed black man to be the symbol of America's power. Black men were barely allowed to fight on the frontlines until later in the war, and I don't think that outside of the all black platoons, there were even any black officers.

Yea its racist but thats what it was like back then.

Well said, a nice reality check is healthy once in awhile...:lol

Honestly, it's all conjecture me thinks....WS will not be CA.

could always go the Isaiah Bradley route (of course most of us are sure they wont) I doubt Smith (although In my opinion is a great entertainer) will play steve rogers, however if he did...I'd watch it...dunno if I'd like it but I'd watch it....now mike comes and steals my thunder....again :lol

Actually Kevin Feige mentioned that side storylines like TRUTH where the Isaiah Bradley piece comes from isn't out of the realm of possibilties once the major characters are hit. That is when the Will Smith rumors began and well have taken a life of their own which Feige isn't discounting now...he said he wants a star with international appeal.

the question isn't should will smith play CA, should CA be black? I personally could care less.

Its a weird line. While people scream that its racist NOT to want Will Smith to play Cap they'd have no problem if someone said "Robert Downey Jr. should play Martin Luther King Jr." smashing it down. They'd say but he is real and they'd be their excuse but the point is that Steve Rogers is white, that is how he was created and that is how he should be played, just like Rhodes in Iron Man is black and I'd be pissed if he was played by a white guy.

Can Daniel Craig do an American accent? Fair point about Smith's serious roles, I'm not a big movie goer so I haven't seen any of those movies. If he can pull the role off I'm fine with him in the role.

Many linguists have said that its easier to teach an English person an American Accent than the other way around. As for Smith, he can play serious when he needs to but he more often than not plays Will Smith. Captain America won't be full of puns but won't be Citizen Kane either, there will be comedic elements and once those lines hit Smith's mouth he won't be able to control himself.

the main guy from '300' could play CA???? i just want the HOT TOYS WAR MACHINE!!

Not famous enough...yet.

wait a minute CA is going to played by Will Smith?

Just a rumor that has amazing legs so far.....

you forgot Ali! he captured "THE CHAMP" completely in that movie, not to mention he gained the 30 pounds for the role and had studied the champs boxing techniques so he could mimic them perfectly, Will Smith does not get enough credit on these boards, seriously.

Will Smith CAN act in serious roles, still don't like him but I'll give that credit. When comedy comes around though he can help but be the Fresh Prince all over the place. I don't see them making a ultra serious Captain America film and I see it falling more in the vain of Iron Man except Captain America being the straightman and others making jokes off of him similar to his portrayal in ULTIMATES, I don't see Will Smith being able to be the straightman, he needs to be the comedy and it'd fail....just MHO.

I give Smith credit for being a good actor but he shouldn't be Captain America. Steve Rogers is white.

I have to agree. It isn't racist just that it doesn't really work when switched up. James West was white and Wild Wild West was horrific and Smith was over the top. Remember I am Legend? Another race reversal that just didn't work, why because Smith is black? No, because Smith couldn't harness the same feel and atmosphere as Heston plain and simple. Remember Kingpin? Michael Clarke Duncan is fantastic and I love seeing him on screen but he didn't work in Daredevil. Don't get me started on Halle Berry's debacle of Catwoman.

If Will Smith announced that he was going to play Superman in the next film would people have a problem with it? I think so, just like if they made a John Stewart in the GL movie that was a blond blue eyed white guy.

My top pick for Cap? Alexander Skarsgård.

The guy is massive and has that brooding look and feel that'd be perfect. Problem? He isn't famous enough and Kevin Feige specifically said he wants an International Superstar as the man in the red, white and blue.

So, I'm going to say it. Leonardo DiCaprio. The guy is amazingly famous to the point where he is still being followed around despite not being relevant for a while and he at his thinnest looks like Steve Rogers before the SS Serum. If he bulks up AND has a director that is willing to keep him under wraps I think he could surprise everyone.

Although if I were Feige, I'd be calling Skarsgard right now.

will smith as capt america?

"awwww, helllll nawwwwww!!!!"

might as well get jack black to play she-hulk, danny devito to play the submariner, shia lebeouf to play luke cage, and jackie chan to play galactus.

:wacky

You joke but I was tight as a gorgeous nun's ^^^^ for years because before the success of Iron Man and TDK, Jack Black was unofficially attached to star as Hal Jordan and Green Lantern was going to be a slapstick comedy. Thank god for Ryan Reynolds....which is still weird to type.

I just hope with Captain America that is it for sure set in world war II, the Red Skull is the bad guy (and that he is actually a NAZI!), and Cap gets frozen at the end to set up the Avengers movie. I'm really hoping for a full WWII movie and not just the begining before he gets frozen. We need to see the Red Skull in action and he needs to be a Nazi. I know Marvel is hesitant to make him one now a days, but he was. The nazis were the bad guys at the time and cap fought them. Its like the issue of Will Smith playing him. Its unrealistic since he wouldn't have even had the chance to be Cap back then. We shouldn't forget about history, no matter how racist or ugly it was. It happened and only changing it will dishonor it.

Now with that said, I'll thrilled about Iron Man 2. The SDCC clip was great. I do like white Nick Fury, but come on, who doesn't like Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury? I think its awesome. Anyone know if there will be any cameos in Iron Man. I don't mean Stan Lee, they said he was, but I mean like Thor or Hulk?

The leading news is that Cap will freeze at the end of his film and unthaw in THE AVENGERS.

As for cameos there is still rumors that Donald Blake and Bruce Banner make cameos but nothing confirmed.

now you've messed up Mike...now I must become Smith, the Anti-Mike...just you wait....but seriously you have a bunch of good points...also...I will become Smith....I'll even have the same style avatar as you :lol just wait

Come on...if you want an Will Smith Av like mine its got to be the other side since its the anti me right?

Re: Iron Man 2

Im less upset that Cheadle is replacing Howard than i am upset that Howard was in the first instead of Cheadle. Its just my damn OCD coming on because i hate when they change actors for sequels in the same movie series.

Is it still a possibility for Brad Pitt to play Steve? He was amazing action wise in Troy and I think Him, Norton, and Robert will have a good dynamic.

i know about that, actually. that's why i made that she-hulk joke. they're both green superheroes, see... geddit? geddit? no? errr. never mind. :sick

:( I'd actually be interested in seeing that.

awwwww, helll nawwww!!! :horror

I think Pitt can work, just don’t think he’s "American Joe up the block" enough to play Rogers. You think Matt Damon would fit in the role?? I think he’s got the look,he’s a competent actor and has a big name, which they are also looking for.

will smith's kid playing the karate kid isn't stupid, a remake of the karate kid is stupid lol I would only want D Craig if he could do the american accent. and just for kicks, I'll throw out that I think Joaquin Phoenix could play a good Captain America as well. I also think matt damon would be a good choice. and Chris Pine, but he has star trek now, so that most likely wouldn't happen.
