Sorry for asking a stupid question guys, but what is an RMA? I have just sent an email with photos to SSC to ask for a replacement (never had to return anything before!!) so this is going to be a new experience for me... now I just need to wait and see what they say.

RMA = Return Merchandise Authorization

You’re in the same boat as me.

I’ve never had to send anything back to Sideshow before but I can't live with the problems on mine.
The chin has very visible brush strokes, Red bleeding through the gold and there are places where the black outline is very sloppy. There is also a faint paint smear on the top of the head. That's not the worst of it though... There's a nasty little chip/scratch right in the middle of the face plate that has been painted over! :slap

How the hell did this make it through quality control.

Really disappointed because the rest of the statue looks amazing.

Chin brush strokes are going to be on all of them, they were on the prototype. Just a question of degree between individual statues is all. Unless they're particularly bad, it's unlikely that you'll get a very much better one in that respect.

Hey, nice find.

No battle damage on the proto.

I think maybe the plan was that by slapping some silver paint on the production pieces, calling it battle damage, it would alleviate some of the complaints SS received about sloppy paint. Sorry SS, no dice.

Hell, IM's crooked chin could be called battle damage too, like he just got his jaw broken in a fight.

Well that means the problem lies with the sculpt not being sanded down enough. :gah:

So many problems on an expensive statue. Sad.

You are right it is sad. I was planning on picking this piece up, but it sounds like there are a ton of quality issues. For the price tag I think I am going to pass and wait for the next Iron Man release which by my estimates should be in about 4 minutes.:)

They don't look like brush strokes on the proto, more like lumps and bumps on the sculpt...

I'll put a picture of mine up when I get home that show brush strokes very clearly.

It's not really battle damage but more like weathering that's on the statue. It is apparent on the prototype as well along the outer edges of the armor. You can even see the 'grease' or 'sloppy' black line areas around the armpit.

As for the crooked jaw, that shouldn't pass for anything at all. Even if this were battle damaged, Iron Man never had such damage after the fight with Whiplash.

It seems apparent that the chin piece has been subjected to a different finishing process than the faceplate, which has certainly been finely sanded and spray-painted for a smooth finish. Perhaps the lower chin is cast as one piece with the body and isn't sprayable or sandable to the same degree as the main faceplate due to the close proximity of the shoulder armor?

My point is basically that the chin finish issue seems to be a consequence of Legacy's design/sculpt and so will be present on each and every example of this maquette. The skill of the painter covering up the discrepancy makes the only real difference, and they do seem quite variable in that respect.

"Battle Damage" can be used as an open interpretation, and that's probably why the went this route...:dunno

But I do agree with your statement in short...:lecture

Couple of pics of my "disasterpiece" :(

You can see the paint streaks, red showing through the gold, sloppy black lines and the little chip on the face plate.

So there was no Battle Damage on the proto? Its something added after the fact. I actually like that it has it since its from a battle scene at the end of the film. He might have had a few scuff marks if you remember the sequence.

I think that has to be one of the worst accusations I've ever seen on this board. I realize some of you got bad pieces but to toss out garbage accusations like this to make yourself feel better is sad.

Would you actually be willing to make this same said comment to them at SDCC to their face? Of course not. You can do it here behind your keyboard with the strength that gives you while you tell them how much you love them at the Con.

I actually like yours if it wasn't for the black at the edge of the gold. Its really pretty decent other than that.
