Sorry if this was posted already...

New photos and a video from the set of Iron Man 3 have shown up online, and now is the time to start theorizing about what exactly is happening in them.

The third film in Marvel's blockbuster franchise has been busy filming in Wilmington, North Carolina since May, with stars Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle, along with director Shane Black, emerging last week to show off some footage at Comic-Con.

We still know very little about the plot—except that it does involve Tony Stark's arch-nemesis The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) and possibly Iron Man's Extremis armor—and these new pics posted online by EW don't clarify much.

Detailed Trailer description here:

"It opens with a voice over of Tony Stark talking about how the events of New York (I’m assuming the Avenger Movie) changed him, and how he’s just not “into it” anymore. First scene is Iron Man with battle damage, laying down amid rubble and taking of his faceplate to show a bleeding Stark. Scenes of him arguing with Pepper Potts in the armory (cool shots of alternative Iron Man suits including the red white and blue one we’ve seen on your site already), press conferences, Tony looking solemn, Tony talking with someone who looks like a psychiatrist, and a short shot of Don Cheadle in military uniform (no War Machine in the preview). Also one scene of who I presume is the Mandarin, forcefully landing and cracking the ground. However, it looked like a silver Iron Man. I was unable to tell in the brief view who it was (maybe due to unfinished CGI).

"We then get a voice over from Ben Kingsley, talking about how there there are no heroes and how he will teach everyone, especially Stark, a lesson. This is over scenes of the alternative Suits getting blown up, Stark going into surgery, and a fleet of helicopters launching missiles which blow Stark’s home up and apart (the CGI looked nearly finished) and sending Stark and Pepper into the sea below. Then a close up of Kingsley with no helmet in the Mandarin armor.

"It ends with Iron man underwater swimming towards what looks like his “heart reactor thing”. Then the logo, then stark walking in the snow dragging a large bag, then the logo again.

"All and all, a somber trailer, dark and humorless, which seemed more in tone with The Dark Knight Rises than with any of the other Iron Man movies or the Avengers."

Meh really? Tony doesn't wanna do it anymore? That's quite lame, I really like Iron Man because he's the opposite of all the emo quitter hide and whine superheroes. I don't mind this one being differant but the last thing I need is another rediscovering your importance speil. So far I'm not liking the armor, the nanos, Fav's departure as director, and the sound of the story. Still holding out hope though as IM is my favorite Superhero franchise atm, and they have RDJ and Kingsley. Just please don't **** this up and make it like every other comic book superhero. I hope it doesn't take alot of over the top "magic" attempts to top Tony taking on an alien army either.

As someone who disliked the dreary tone of the first two Christopher Nolan directed Batman movies ( never saw the last one ) I'm not exactly encouraged by the news that IM3 may be along the same lines.

You know, human beings get tired of saving the world from certain doom....that's probably what goes on between the panels.

I doubt it will be anything like Nolan's flicks. Shane Black is great with comedy.

This is just the trailer. They wanted to ride the TDKR success a little bit.

Not the ones I grew up with. When I was a kid, I never remember Superman, Batman, The X-Men, Spiderman, or the TMNT saying "I'm getting too old for this ****."

Besides if Feige sees this as a James Bond series, assuming he means a dozen or so movies, I don't just want a trilogy that leads to the hero quitting.

People want realism today. Horrible, un fun, non cheesy, non interesting realism.

So there ya go.

Well I want realism too but it's about finding the correct balance. THe first Iron Man did it better then any other Superhero film so far imo, much like Arkham City.

The Avengers ranks lower on my list because I still love Tony, but he's fighting aliens. I'm afraid we've departed the balance Jon found with 1&2 or at least the parts of 2 he wasn't forced to sandwhich Avengers crap into and now were in the realm of aliens and magic which don't appeal to me in this universe.
