All good points. To me, Rule #4 is the most important of them all.

So very true. And Rule 4 takes care of Rule 3. A good director will cast the right person for the role and not the latest IT girl/guy. And if the studio pushes that, they'll resist the pressure.

I have faith in Jon Favreau, and Robert Downey Jr. remains an excellent actor despite any personal demons he has. I could've cared less about an Iron Man movie, but those two people have put it on my Must-See list for Summer '08.

Favreau has QUITE an impressive portfolio and I'm a fan. Sure no action, but he TELLS GOOD STORIES! So I have hope.)

No action--- unless you count the twirling in SWINGERS :D but he did direct ZATHURA. And while that was aimed at pre-teens and younger it did contain CG shots and action in a sci-fi type of environment. I've got high hopes for what he can do with Iron-Man as well.

That's not TOTALLY true, some times the director REALLY has no choice. But generally, yeah they get their say. ALSO in the cases of good directors, even if they get stuck with a schlub, they can still pull it off sometimes.

At first I wasn't thrilled with RD Jr. but the more I though about Iron Man and the drinky drinky, the more I thought about RD Jr. :D

Yeah, I was a little surprised they chose RD Jr. as well. Probably more because of his personal problems than his acting skills, as he is a very good actor.

And yes, a good director can coax a fine performance out of a "schlub".

Looks decent. Hopefully a better movie than Ghost Rider.
