Anyone collecting Hot Toys for rarity is an imbecile in my opinion, no offence, much...

But what are you doing, are you holding fortnightly meetings in the town so all those who couldn't get something can marvel at your rare and precious pieces? How are you even gauging your piece as even being rare when you look at it?

Do people honestly look at what they own and think my God, I'm only 1 of 5 who owns this, hell yeah! I mean, all you've done is got there first and had the money. If anyone is not looking at something for aesthetic value solely it's pretty dumb. Even if 5,000 people owned a piece that's still rare, there's billions of people in the world. And it's even more dumb when a collectible isn't even listed as an edition.

Fine art prints are limited edition, they're worth having and being able to say, I'm only one of few people to own this artist piece! But a Hot Toys Mark V is not something to be holding your mini-me over in ecstatic joy as being rare.

If you're honestly angry over someone else being able to get something that was never meant as a limited release, and you're not happy that they can find joy in how it's supposed to be enjoyed, sell your collection and go far away, the collecting community will be better off for it.

Over-reaction is the exact right word describing all the whiners here whining about the reissue. :wink1:

Or even those whiners whining about the opinions of other "whiners":wink1:

Curious what are the 8 instock Iron Man armors?
7, 50, IV Holo, Rest?

3 reissues?
43, 44, 47?

What are the 6 for PO
21, 85, 85 BD, Rest?

Not in diagreeance with you, just trying to visualize them. Iron Man is their cash cow. Regardless if he's dead in the MCU Hoy Toys will continue to pump him out. After all it is a business. They feel like Hasbro to me. I love what I have from them especially their early figures (Iron Monger, Gantry, etc.), but they're headed in a direction that isn't for me. I like having edition sizes and not having resources used for reissues when they could put out figures that are already way passed due.

I've voiced this same sentiment for awhile now. The idea that they've become
some type of glorified Hasbro brand and have become a shell of what they
once were. Reminds me of when EA acquired BioWare and the quality of
their RPGs took a nosedive.

So because I said Hot Toys reissues can be "a bit frustrating" (as I continue to wait for figures put on pre-order 2+ years ago) means that I find the entire hobby frustrating and I should just quit? Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd rather not overreact to things :wink1:

I wouldn't worry about him, just add him to the ignore list like I did.

In regards to reissues. I agree that it does tarnish the exclusivity of a piece. I buy a piece that costs higher than most other collectibles because of the quality and also rarity. Naturally, if a figure is made and it?s price reflects a very limited amount it can be justified. When you make something and continue to make the same thing over and over, it?s not as rare and it?s price point should drop since it?s a larger run. The way HT is reissuing makes it pointless to pay high prices when the market drops because they?ve made such a large amount. If I wanted constant reissues and repacks, Hasbro is where it?s at. HT testing the waters as I could see them be a much higher end Hasbro. These aren?t as exclusive as before and they?re just churning out older releases to bring in new collectors. Eventually all 600+MMS will be remade all over again.

This is a big reason I am transitioning to statues, art prints, 1:1 prop replicas. They have edition sizes and don't recycle out the same stuff (>12" Hot Toys is perfect, but going larger <1/4 statues is where it is at; the presence is unmatched). It's nice to collect something that is sought after and hard to obtain. That is part of the fun of this hobby - the chase. If I could just get any old piece any day of the week that would take some excitement out of it. Same mindset is when figures are readily available on Sideshow nobody picks them up. The moment it says "low stock" or "waitlist soon" there is a mad dash and panic to pick those items up. I do miss the older figures. There was something special about them.

Once these guys reissue one thing the new collectors will make a bunch of noise to reissue everything they missed because they feel entitled to have it at retail. The secondary market is a double edged sword. Those chasing the figures hate it because in a lot of cases the prices are crazy and on the other those selling it love it because they have perceived value. Without the scalpers/sellers the value of these guys wouldn't amount to much more than retail if that. Demand makes the market, so essentially we are driving up the price because we want it, not because the scalpers/sellers woke up one day and decided its value. Budget Stark talks about this is one of his videos.

I love what Hot Toys puts out (for the most part) my argument is against on how they conduct their business.

Hot Toys is turning into "HotBro Toys"

I provide positive suggestion on how to make your life less stressful or frustrated. :wink1:

You can always put me on ignore list like the other whiner/s above. :wink1:

Never been a fan of this Armour, too long and lanky for my taste. And the colors just don't do it for me. I much prefer the red and silver on the Mark 47. I currently have Mark 7 and 47, waiting on battle damaged 85 and Mark 1. Happy for those who would like a chance to pick it up, though.

They price it as limited. These reissues just started and while some characters we know will be remade because of movie sequels and popularity, straight up reissuing a figure is bad for a collector. Great for business. If you’re in the hobby buying high priced toys, good for you. They’ll keep going up too. Not because of rarity now, but because new collectors are flooding the industry and preordering everything. Slowly this will increase HT base price since they’re dint paying more than the previous release. And yes I like knowing what I buy is a limited item. That’s generally what collectors do. Sneaker heads, vinyl collectors, stamp collectors, car collectors, it’s the name of the game.

I agree. I own things I like to look at and have meaning to me. If it’s “valuable,” that’s just a bonus.

Collecting Hot Toys is not like buying fine art. They do not appreciate in value. Or at least not in the same way. Rather it is like collecting fruit. They eventually spoil. Much the same as technology continues to evolve and innovate, production techniques, engineering and artist's skills will continue to improve. Its inevitable that the newer product will be superior to the older one. The older product becomes obsolete. So even without the reissues, these product do not maintain their value indefinitely.

When HT replaced their plastic Iron man figures with diecast figures, I didn't get upset about it. I was happy about it, even tho it brought down the value of the figures I already had. The only time I object to reissues is when they announce another version of a figure with extra stuff immediately after the release first figure. Like when they announced the 2nd Jedi Luke with Endor accessories. I feel thats more of an unfair practice like "Now that you already spent the money, heres the one you really wanted. :monkey3" :slap

Well said! Collecting these expensive trinkets is not a race, nor should it ever be considered gathering a comprehensive group, or that a collector who is searching to get the ultimate grail will ever get there; they may reach an apex for a moment in time, but this stuff is not history-making, or even precedent setting. They are just freaking cool toys. That is enough for me, as they capture my imagination like nothing else

I get it. I collect Steel books also - Mantalab, Plain Archive, HDZeta etc. and I started late on a lot of them so had to pay through the nose on Ebay, some at Hot Toys prices for a single item. This happens because each stee lbook is editioned x/1500 etc. Once sold initially the aftermarket prices skyrocket in most cases or hovers at above retail for every other. These will never be reissued because they all come with an edition tag on them. The only way another is made of the same film is if it's a completely new design, meaning the original version retains or even goes higher in price.

Hot Toys don't price items as limited, they price for the materials and artistry and for profit, and all of that comes up to a quite high price - it's up to us to gauge if the item is worth that price. What they specifically don't do is make-to-order and also edition sizes. they never announce how many they make specifically for public knowledge or collector info and they also do not label each piece as 'x' of edition size 'z'.

There's absolutely zero reason for any collector of Hot Toys to be angry about a figure being reissued. If someone bought on the secondary market for a much higher price, well that sucks, but no one's really to blame apart from the scalpers.

I'm mostly out of Hot Toys now and going for JND statues. They're extremely limited edition sizes, and the only thing I feel in regards to securing one is thank **** I don't need to worry about trying to get it another way. Beyond that I'm never EVER going to look at that piece and feel a content of knowledge in me being x number of people to own it - rather, holy crap, this piece looks incredible. If anything, I'd want more people to own stuff of such quality to find joy in it too.

^ This here is the most reasonable answer. I don't believe they ever marketed these regular releases as something limited. People just assumed it and got used to the idea. When preorders open up for the regular releases, do they get sold out in minutes or does one have to gain special access to buy one? No, not at all. These preorders are open for such a long time and none are numbered.

Good on you for just enjoying what you bought and not necessarily because somebody else doesn't have it. Comparing this with people collecting high end Bandai items, those preorders sell out in less than 10 minutes. I'd say those are more limited than Hot Toys given preorders aren't open for months end. When something gets reissued by Bandai, I don't read from current owners that they're disappointed that the product is getting saturated. In fact, they're happy for those that get another chance to get it.

Just preordered it. Miss out on the first run and glad I?m not paying those after market prices. Rather have Hot Toys take my money than some scalper.

Very well said (I especially agree with your comments about ROTJ Luke, I was absolutely fuming when they pulled that stunt!)

I have pre-ordered this from KGHobby. One of my favourite suits. I will display it with the mms600 Tony Stark.

I think it's more like buying a car than fruit. Fruit spoils into nothing. We're still left with the figures, regardless of their condition or value.

Cars depreciate in the same way with both use and obsolesce over time. They cost money to own no matter what, with very, very rare exceptions that hold their value or come back around to appreciate because of their special nature.

And some Hot Toys figures do maintain their value or appreciate. Not everything gets a superior version of it made down the road.
