Any movie made has flaws. In my opinions flaws are simply pointed out to justify a dislike of a film rather than being the source. At least that's how I've found it works for me.

I enjoyed IM3 and thought the Mandarin reveal was gutsy and interesting. The movie was better than 2 but not as good as 1. That's my personal opinion and no one will be able to talk me into disliking the movie. If you dislike the movie, I can't talk you into liking it.

I agree with this. Opinions are opinions and I've found it often to be true that they don't change and trying to convince someone else that your opinion is the "right" one is a waste of time.

What is worthwhile in film discussion is reveling with others about films you liked and commiserating with others about films you disliked.

with that I gotta say There were a lot of things I liked. First people were complaining about him throwing away his chest piece and saying he wont suit up anymore. Im think the opposite, I think IM 3 was an introduction for extremis, some time in that era he also got rid of the chest piece and as we know the armor became more literally a part of him, I like to think he will work on extremis for himself (he has to fix potts) so that gives him time to work on it

Thats good, the problem is some people think their opinion is an universal truth which is.. childish to say the least :lol

Thats why I stay away from internet arguments, I read what people say and most of what the haters say make me laugh, with this particular movie I've never heard a good argument about something that is supossed to be really wrong with it, but I didn't read many reviews I don't spend all day reading that kind stuff anyway..

There is just people that liked it and some that didn't and that happens with every single movie :peace

After watching the movie, I refreshed myself on the comic version of Mandarin. One of his ten rings can control minds! Another can separate atoms! I wonder how they would have fit a comic faithful iteration of Mandarin into this more "grounded" version of the Marvel universe? Those are some crazy powers to have!

It's often talked mentioned that the Marvel film universe is very grounded… but how grounded can a universe be when you have Thor?

Clarke's 2nd law:

"Any sufficiently advanced technology will be perceived as magic."

You're right, it's not very grounded at all especially because of Thor. "Grounded" (as loosely thrown about by Marvel) is really just "suspension of disbelief" for the movie going audience. Thor stretches that but a completely faithful comic version of Mandarin with ten rings from space with all his powers may have broken that suspension of disbelief. Just my opinion. If they adapted the comic version of the Mandarin exactly and it worked great, good for them. I don't mind being proven wrong. I just don't know how they could have done it.

Yep, this has been my take on Thor since he was introduced into the Marvel movie universe (and they did think to say so). His fight with Iron Man in Avengers, for example, totally worked and I didn't feel any dissonance between 'magic' and 'technology' during that scene.

I get where you're coming from but have to disagree. I'd have no issues with Nolan Bat-verse being merged with Man of Steel, for example (i.e., Justice League), even though Nolan (IIRC) predicated Batman on living in a world without other superheros. So long as MoS creates a credible world in which Superman can exist, it would be the same for me as believing in a world where Spider-Man and Punisher both exist (or Thor, for that matter). I haven't seen the movie, but I think Mandarin could work either way, also (space rings or figurehead).

Yeah I think this comic book characters are better when they are approached in a more realistic way IMHO. Thats why I don't even want to think about a talking raccoon standing next to Iron Man..
Have to admit, that's where my suspension of disbelief also snaps. Hated that character in the comics (and a lot of GotG... just never connected with the concept/art/writing) and don't expect I'll like it much better as a movie, unless it's really good. Very cynical about it, to say the least.

The prospect of this is very intriguing to me. One day we may be admiring in hand pics of a ht rocket raccoon.:lol

I'd totally get a HT Rocket Racoon. I think he will kick *** and I'm very eager to see GotG on the big screen :yess:
I always found the character cheap and silly, but integrating Earth's heroes with a larger galactic/universal storyline is inarguably cool. So I'm leaving my mind open, but still hate Rocket Raccoon, haha.

I love Thor in the films but the whole science appearing to be magic explanation only really works if you actually have an explanation. You can call anything "science" you want but it's still magic unless you can explain it.

There's nothing wrong with that in a comic book film at all and it's great to have it. I just don't think a Mandarin with rings that are when it comes down to it basically the same exact thing as Asgardian "science" is all that hard to believe within the universe. It would also make a nice contrast against Stark's technology which I think is kind of the entire point of the character.

On the note of Rocket Raccoon, the Guardians of the Galaxy movie is probably the one I'm most excited for. It's potentially the oddest, and I like me some odd. It's also directed by James Gunn who I adore.
