I'm really liking how everyones' stairs are going. Any chance in sharing measurements, materials, tools, etc? They look simple enough that I could do them with the requirements. :monkey3

I'll let BadMoon quote you his measurements, as mine are custom-fit to the shelf I have Jabba displayed so they're an odd size.

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/metaphorge/398634981/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="https://farm1.static.flickr.com/138/398634981_d512c53430.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCF1821" /></a>

We're using heavy florist's styrofoam (the white kind, not the crumbly green kind) ; I got mine at Michael's but you should be able to find it at any craft store. It comes in different size sheets at 1" and 2" in depth.

I used toothpicks to attach the pieces of styrofoam together before painting.

The paint is Ralph Lauren River Rock-Buckeye interior paint. I got mine at Home Depot. I also used it for the floor and walls... it dries to a very nice sandy-stone appearance with a nice texture. I varied the thickness I applied it with, so in some places the stairs retain the texture of the styrofoam and in others they're smoother.

Hope this helps!

Yes, it helps very much. Just a few more detail questions:

Did you use both the 1" and 2" styrofoam?
Did you sand/break/weather the styrofoam before painting at all.
Did you have to cut the styrofoam thickness to make it level with Jabba's throne's thinckness? - I just mostly need the height measurements since I too have a limited display area and probably will only do one side's stairs.

Thanks in advance. :D

The throne is slightly under 4" tall, so the back part of the platform shown is made by two pieces of 2" stacked on top of each other. The stairs in front are 2.5" and 1.25" tall, respectively. So, no, I did not have to cut the styrofoam's thickness; I cut pieces from the 1" thick styrofoam and fit them together to make up the stairs' depths (which I picked so that there would be enough space for figures to stand on the mid-level stair).

Alright, thanks.

Just and FYI everyone, Roberts, Michael's, Joann's etc. put out coupons just about every week for 40 to 50% any one item. Didn't see Michael's in this week's ads, but Roberts and Joanns did. Every penny saved goes towards more Jabba Palace figures right? :D

Ok I started off by buying the paint. I bought Ralph Lauren River Rock RR74. I think I used a slightly darker paint than Meta. So pick one you like and just go with it. I then went to a art store and bought florist foam. Don't underestimate the size of Jabba's throne. Or you will have to run back out (in the snow in my case) to get the thickest one they make. I know that the length was like 36 inches. I dont remember how thick it was. When everything drys I will get you that. Then I also got a sheet of the medium size stuff to make the first and second steps. Then I went home and cut the thickest piece into 4. Then like Meta I stacked 2 on top of each other (forming the final step and platform. Then I just eyeballed the rest. So if you can get the last step started first it should be easy. I will get final dimensions tomorrow. Oh and good luck glueing them. I'm not sure what type of glue to use. I bought some really thick stuff and am not impressed. Im hoping when the paint drys it will help bind everything. Final pics coming later tonight.

I used toothpicks.

Meta how long till this thing drys???

Hard to wait to display them, eh? ;) It was dry to the touch most places in a little under two hours, though the paint in cracks and seams took a few more hours to fully dry.

Yes I am very inpatient. LOL!

Just paint in the evening and let it dry overnight.

Or you can go the Cartman approach and freeze yourself until it dries. Just don't end up 500 years in the future!!! :D

The jawa is still in progress, as seen in the "Pimp My Jawa" thread. I also need to paint the fan.

Sorry guys. I promised pics tonight and it doesn't look good. It was still wet when I was going to take progress pics. So I just decided to coat the steps again. Pics will be ready tomorrow after everything drys. As well as measurements. Sorry once again. I hate waiting. LOL! (There is another Princess Bride quote). I love that movie!

Well, unfortunately, it's not through images, but I wanted to share some more tales of Jabba love. I was struck with a cold this morning and have been laying in bed most of the day, but as was my routine as a child, now is my routine as an adult, curl up in bed, have the mighty Jabba by my side for amusement, and watch ROTJ. Kenner got me through child sickness, now Sideshow has given me a new Jabba to get me through, I hope Sideshow employees read this thread, I am truly very thankful you guys made this, I'm probably the happiest I've ever been as a collector thanks to this piece.

Well Met! Here Here! I second that!

I think anyone who was born in '83 and beyond has a love for the Kenner Jabba and now the SS Jabba. I know that I cannot wait to get home to play with this and am even tempted to try and get it back to school with me. This is just one of those things that screams "Here's what you wanted ever since you were little, now go play. Have fun"
