Well, unfortunately, it's not through images, but I wanted to share some more tales of Jabba love. I was struck with a cold this morning and have been laying in bed most of the day, but as was my routine as a child, now is my routine as an adult, curl up in bed, have the mighty Jabba by my side for amusement, and watch ROTJ. Kenner got me through child sickness, now Sideshow has given me a new Jabba to get me through, I hope Sideshow employees read this thread, I am truly very thankful you guys made this, I'm probably the happiest I've ever been as a collector thanks to this piece.

Well, like you I like to be able to have these items around me when I'm in my room watching LOTR or SW. Someday, I want to have a great movie room setup with all my pieces around me in a Gruson like setup. These pieces by SS are so masterfully done that in this setup they will prove to be jaw dropping additions to a great setup.

I unpacked my Jabba and throne today. The trip with that throne up three flights of stairs was worth it. Oof! :-D Nothing like carrying Sauron up but just as unwieldy!

Here is my one goofy pic.

jabba.jpg

My throne is #1591.

I wish I could spend time oggling everything but back in the box he goes
for now until I get back from vacation. :) It's hard to resist patting
his buddha belly for luck though! :rotfl

I was thinking about a few things. I had planned to use that flour based plaster. I can't remeber exactly how to make it. We had to use to make California Mission models when I was a kid and that what we used but it would work great. Also for attaching the foam together hot glue gun should work really good.

I will look for how to make the plaster. I lil weathering and it would look a very close to the throne.

Glad to see everyone is so happy with Jabba! He really is the coolest SW item I have in my collection and worthy of the praise!

Well said, MaulFan....

"The message R2, the message!"

Jabba has always been one of my favorite things about ROTJ...larger (literally) than life, totally cool to watch & listen to....just the centerpiece in every scene he's in.

The '83 Kenner "Jabba and Throne Playset" is still one of my favorite pieces in my entire SW collection...a great toy that features a great looking Jabba sculpt (heck, Hasbro STILL hasn't improved on that one to this day!) and a cool throne that actually had some play to it. I still can't resist twisting Jabba's head to make that tail swat and turning those gargoyle heads to "open" that "pit" in the throne...

Now here we are all these years later and Sideshow has presented us with what is easily the centerpiece of our "adult" collections...a massive well-detailed figure on a throne that just catches my attention every time I enter my studio. Granted, I can't twist the head for any "tail-swishing" action, but the overwhelming scale and display more than make up for that. Actually, I'm a little awed by him...the quality is so impressive, I'm extra careful with him...he's more like a museum piece than a toy...which is a good thing, believe me!

As I said when I got this guy, I haven't had this much fun with a SW collectible piece in a long time...snappin' pictures and seeing how other folks around here are displaying him.

MaulFan, I agree...I also hope that some Sideshow folks stop by here and read just how much we appreciate the great effort, care & artistry put into this piece....he is amazing....

The steps are DRY! Pics coming tonight!

Every penny saved goes towards more Jabba Palace figures right?

and on that topic, you can save even more by making your own 'sand' paint with normal latex paint. Here is a how-to-do from a indoor climbing page. it's a great way to save a couple of bucks and use up some of paint you might have laying around your house.

if the thought of mixing up a batch of paint yourself or the mess of clean-up (yuck, sand down the drain?) stops you, there is a simpler way to the sandy look. apply a THICK coat of paint then throw/sprinkle sand into it. when dry, just tap off the extra and paint over the sand with your finish color. for a more dimensional look, use putty, plaster or clay instead of paint as your base. in addition to sand you could imbed small rock/debris and make impression in the finish product. sweep marks (made with paint brushes), footprints (made by figure with their feet protected with plastic) and a recessed rancor grill would all be great additions.

finally, a word on sand. if you're going to mix sand into paint, you'd want clean dry sand. you can buy small bags of sand at a craft store or large bags of play sand at the DIY store for about the same price. but if you're going for the dirty, dusty feel of Tatooine, just use good old fashion (and Free!) found sand. I've done projects where I've rolled freshly painted items in gutters, gravel driveways and rocky dirt for a distressed, stone-like look. once sealed with a clear sealer, the tiny rocks, pieces of wood, dust even dead insects have stayed in place and can be dusted pretty easily.

Re: Jabba - I try to get out, but 'they keep pullin' me back in!

Well, I canceled my entire Jabba setup last month. Part was due to the sticker shock of 245 just for the throne shipped from Sideshow. The other part was my Lab needing 340 dollar thigh surgery to remove a cancerous growth (fingers still crossed they got it all). I decided I at least wanted Jabba so I contacted Bob at Fireside and he set me up an order for Jabba and Sal at a great price.

Well, flash forward a month to this weekend. Bob contacted me to tell me that Jabba was in stock. He also mentioned that he had an extra throne if I was interested. I sent him back an explanation about my funds, but just for kicks, I asked him what the total would be for the Jabba, Throne, and Sal pack. Long story, short, I have all three on the way to my house. Best part of the story? Bob sold me all 3 for 285 SHIPPED! All the other items (shipped separately of course  ) from Sideshow would have been 417. I don't know how Bob can afford to sell them to me at that price, but I want to offer my opinion of him here in written format:

BOB ... YOU THE MAN! :chew :emperor :chew

:vader :vader :vader :vader

So, it looks like I will have a full Jabba setup soon to take pictures of... stay tuned :D

P.S. This was an extra if I understand Bob. So don't bombard his e-mail/pm. Its all about me ... :monkey3 /joke

I thought about going that route, but for the small area I was painting this would not have been a significant savings. I'll keep this in mind when I am working on Jabba's Palace 2.0. once I move.

Ditto to that JB. Again, I'm amazed at just how cool this item is. It's just so well done it's hard to put in words or pictures how well done it really is.

Doug glad you got him and got such a great deal from The Godfather!! That's why he's the man.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Be assured that they will be passed on - it's great to know that Jabba is as well-loved as we had hoped he would be! :duff (and great photos, everyone!!)

Ok guys here it is! Enjoy!!! :chew

Just to help others here.

Here is my template for Jawa fan.

If you want it just print out and cut to the right size.

Grab a large garland leaf (or any leafy substance) and use the cut-out as a template.

Cut a wire coat hanger to size and add a little paint for the stem.

Hope this helps:

I say we have a competition.

Who will make the best set of stairs for Bib to stand on beside Jabba?

And.... Go! :blissy

LOL! It has started my friend. It is neat to again see that there was really 4 steps. However I would have to cut a hole in my table to recreate it so I went with 3.

It's worth noting that Jabba's throne is also raised off the ground, so the bottom of it starts at the top of the first step. So, to really get it dead right, we would have had to not only made four steps but jacked up the throne about 1.5". I don't know about you guys, but I'm not quite that picky. ;D

Once again, great job, BadMoon!

Speaking of the stairs, be sure and check out the "Jabba's Steps" thread Badmoon started up for some great images folks are posting of this great display idea...they got me goin'!
