MF, did you ever finish your backdrop? Or did I miss it during all of the other dicussion going on?

It's still in the works, I don't know if you caught it or not, I had the stomach flu a few weeks ago and it knocked me out for a whole week, so I'm trying to get back on track with some things, been doing many projects (collecting and personal) in the graphics stuff and some things with time deadlines so I've had to bump those up. It is coming though.

Ok guys, first off, I want to give a very big thanks to CustomMikey for giving me a great deal of advice and tips about customizing a Slave Leia, I had no idea where to begin and he gave me some direction and without that, I wouldn't have even attempted to make one. That said, here she is completed, and I'll be snapping pictures of her integrated with my Jabba later today.

Nice work. I like what you've done--- still I like that I used a Dragon (rubber--bendy--- gumby--:D ) body as it makes her look seamless. I'll go back and take some more asthetic shots that don't make her look so alien and we can compare. Great job though (and nice use of Vader's stand). I'm moving on to my stairs next as I just received my Hasbro 12" guard Lando (surprinsingly happy with this Hasbro attempt).

That Leia is pretty neat! Obviously the braid is huge but you can't really help that unless you want to trim and rebraid and who REALLY has the patience for that! Great Job, Maul!!!:monkey5

MaulFan, favor por favor? What body did you use and did you repaint her head at all? It seems to match the body VERY nicely. I ask because I have one Leia on a Dragon body and that is just much too thin and gangly and the Obitsu bendy body ... well I just don't like it.

I used the Triad S1 Female body, only costs $13, and the Leia pieces I took from the first Slave Leia Hasbro made, and it makes a difference, the paint colors and the cloth material are different on the R2-Leia 2pack version and the skirt looks of a lesser material to me. The A-Cup chest for the Triad body fits perfectly into the bikini. I just took the bikini off and put it on the body, popped the head of then it got into a little customizing. There's articulation to the Triad neck, and I liked that, so when it came time to put Leia's head on I had two options, cut some of the head away around the neck socket to fit it on because the whole is exactly the same size as the Triad neck and wouldn't go on, or fatten the connecting part of the triad neck, so I fattened with a soft rubber eraser, forgive me I don't remember the technical name for it but I had a good ammount of it left over from college art class, it's almost like clay and playdoh material, but it's an eraser, it doesn't loose it's soft properties and it's semi-adhesive, so I padded the triad connecteor with it, popped Leia's head on it stays on with articulation so that's nice. The feet of the Hasbro boots are exactly the same size outside as the triad foot, but the Triad feet come off so I popped them off and just stuck the legs inside the boot, a snug fit but works good. The hardest part of it all was the skirt portion. Hasbro glued the cloth to the rubber metal front and back and glued that to the body, they came apart fine, then I had to pull of the side joints and cut away the excess rubber used to connect all of the ""metal"" pieces into the body so they would lay against the Triad body. The rubber is very soft, so I just took a small sewing needle and thread and tied all of the metal pieces together and used a small stitchs to attach the cloth back to the metal parts, then put the whole thing around the waist and tied off the last section, but being that it was all loose and might shift, I used some threads under the skirt to tie the front plate to the back plate to keep it down in place and that's how I got my Leia.

Triad Body

Nope, no painting, I just took what I needed off the Hasbro and put it on the Triad, her face is a little whiter than the triad body, but it's hardly noticeable, especially with her neck chain on where you can't see the shades directly next to each other. I have to clean around my room a bit, but I plan on taking shots of her on Jabba's throne later tonight, it's really nice and the skirt lays really well, until a good Leia comes along, this will do nicely. I'm not a fan of seeing the joints, but not being done to stand on it's own and being an added element to a display, your attention is drawn away from the joints and all you focus on really is you have a Leia in movie pose with your Jabba. The only big issue I have, and will most likely be an issue if anyone makes Slave Leia without giving her a Carrie exacty body is the upper body isn't as long as Carrie's so the figure looks shorting sitting up than the film.

Ok, they're pretty quickly done shots so I'm sorry if they're not the best, but wanted to show what my custom Leia adds to my Jabba display.

MaulFan, I don't know why you said it may not look good. I think it looks fantasic and the size appears to match up well at that. How does she compare in height with Luke and Han?

Funny you ask that because as I'm typing this and checking the forums, I'm about to replicate the Luke & Leia swing shot :) I'll post shortly.

It occurred to me I hadn't posted any photos of my set-up since I added unfrozen Han and my kit-bashed Leia as Jabba's Prisoner:

Leia is a Hot Toys body with BBI hands (both perfect) and Hasbro head and outfit (for now)... the outfit looks sort of ok, but the head has got to go!

Anyone have pics of the Koto Leia with the SS Jabba? I'm curious to see how that fits.

Also can't wait to see pics of the GG Leia with Jabba.

Hi all! Hope you're friendly to newcomers...

I just got my Jabba set (including throne, Bib, and the slug himself) yesterday and I actually found this forum by typing "Sideshow Jabba Backdrop" into Google.

Which has led me back to you, MaulFan! I've been trudging through this 170 page thread over the last 24 hours and trying to look at some of your work. I haven't been able to see a lot of it because for some reason your host site is not linking for me. But the few images I have seen have been very impressive!

So I'm wondering if the backdrop project you were working on is still a go? I've got my all my stuff set up, but as soon as I did I noticed two things. One, this is one amazing sculpt on just about all the pieces. And two, it looks lousy set against a plan beige wall. I took to the web to see if I could come up with anything and now here I am knocking at your door.

Sure hope you're still up for this! It would be the crowning touch and an incredible set...

Thanks,
-QGF

Welcome QuiGonFishing! Glad to have you here. While I can't speak for MaulFan, I do believe he is still working on that project although we haven't been updated for quite a while. Just an FYI, he did those fantastic Endor Trooper Wallpapers available on Sideshow's Site.

Welcome once again, and I hope you have a blast here. :D

Yeah, MaulFan had to slow down on the backdrop if I remember correctly. For awhile, he had the flu or some other illness that took him out of commission for a week or two. Then he was secretly working on those wallpapers for Sideshow, which took up some available time. I guess he's still working on it.

Hopefully, he'll see these messages and drop in with an update for you guys.
