Yes I know that so then why is the Earth scene then necessary? If in the beginning of the movie he is in the wheelchair, we can assume he got injured in battle. Do we really need to know how it happened? Unless it was done by a Na'vi or a creature like them, it doesnt matter. Maybe that is why it got cut out of the film.
It makes the film less of a cliche. Honestly, I enjoyed it, but dear lord, I knew everything that was going to happen. Atleast there was a better reason then "Because I felt like bangin a blue chick!"
Jake has a character flaw (or a good character trait, depending on how you see it) he cannot stand watching weaker people get hurt. And the Navi were being destroyed, and Jake could not let that stand. It's better then the story the film got. "Oh...well I ____ed her, and now I guess i'll save her and stuff..."
It came across too cheesy.
And did you even read that scene I posted? Doesnt show anything about how he was injured. It just shows who Jake Sully is. Because the movie doesnt convey his character too well outside of a really cliched John Smith character.
