Yes I know that so then why is the Earth scene then necessary? If in the beginning of the movie he is in the wheelchair, we can assume he got injured in battle. Do we really need to know how it happened? Unless it was done by a Na'vi or a creature like them, it doesnt matter. Maybe that is why it got cut out of the film.

It makes the film less of a cliche. Honestly, I enjoyed it, but dear lord, I knew everything that was going to happen. Atleast there was a better reason then "Because I felt like bangin a blue chick!"

Jake has a character flaw (or a good character trait, depending on how you see it) he cannot stand watching weaker people get hurt. And the Navi were being destroyed, and Jake could not let that stand. It's better then the story the film got. "Oh...well I ____ed her, and now I guess i'll save her and stuff..."

It came across too cheesy.

And did you even read that scene I posted? Doesnt show anything about how he was injured. It just shows who Jake Sully is. Because the movie doesnt convey his character too well outside of a really cliched John Smith character.

Well, JC is currently writing an Avatar novel that will give us the history of a lot of the main characters. He doesn't plan on doing a prequel movie, but he is doing this novel, that is supposed to come out by the end of this year. He says that this book will be like the "bible" for all future Avatar movies. It's supposed to set the base of everything that happened in the past, how things work, why they do things that way they do them, etc.

We'll see. I'm excited for it and can't wait to read it.

How many movies are they planning to make?

How what works? who is the "they"? Is the book supposed to talk about why the Na'vi or the humans do what they do? Didnt the movie explain all this? :dunno

And he got to walk again and I'm sure the the added abilities (speed and Herbel Essence hair) were a reason.

But he is a clinched Jon Smith character. He is like all main characters that are in this movie format. Good guy wants to help the weak, the weak teach him their way, they join forces and fight the stronger force. if he acted like a douche, then movie goers wouldnt like him.

I guess I have to see the extra 3 mins.

But he wasnt very interesting for me to really care for him. This scene makes him a better more rounded character.

I wonder how they're going to do the family audio track. In some scenes you literally see a close-up of Na'vi Jake's face as he says "Holy ____!" I wonder if it'll look like a bad dub or if they'll literally spend thousands of dollars to reanimate his lips to say something else each time he swears.

probably just make up some Na'vi word that has the same mouth movements as ____. :lol

or just cut away.

I took my 7 year old nephew to see this in the theater. After it came out on DVD I bought it for my sister. She watched it again with him and I got a phone call right after. :lol She was like Keith really?

I said sis look. I grew up watching Robocop and Rambo and that shat was WAY worse than this. :rotfl

Right now, JC has said he has ideas for 2 more movies and possibly a 4th.

From what I read in interviews, the book will cover the backstory of Grace, possibly more on Jake, Quaritch, Tsu'tey, Neytiri, etc. He'll spell out more on how the technology works, and the culture and rituals of the Na'vi. Not entirely sure what else will be in it, but that is everything that I have read from interviews with JC.

I'm guessing I will really like the sequels. The first was clearly ah hem "inspired" almost 90% by other movies. The sequels should be awesome! :rock

Jeez :slap 2-3 more movies really? I guess Cameron wants to fill up his hidden cave with more money. I wonder what movie he'll rip off to right the story for these movies. Maybe Lord of the Rings or Pocahontas 2.

In each of Cameron's previous two sequels (ALIENS and T2) he introduced a kid as one of the main characters. I'm not sure I want to see that in an Avatar movie.

Still I'm curious to see where he goes with the whole aquatic theme. That alone should guarantee we get something different than "more humans come and they have an even bigger battle, this time with Jake Jr."

As I've said from the beginning I think Avatar is perfectly fine as a one shot movie without need for sequels. Star Wars, The Matrix, Back to the Future, etc., all ended with you wondering what was going to happen next. With Avatar you can easily assume everyone lived happily ever after.

When will JC,s Book Come out?

Honestly they dont need to do a sequal or a trilogy, I trust cameron 100% But avatar stands on its own, but ill be happy, Just hope they dont _____* the franchise.

Couldnt have said it better.

As for the franchised getting ____ed, its only a matter of time.

Dont worry camron is good at making sequal's I cant wait to see how the character's turn out or what kind of situation they can get into. Should be good.

From IGN:
We attended Tuesday's press event for the forthcoming Blu-ray release of Avatar (Extended Collector's Edition) where James Cameron spoke about the status of the two planned sequels to his sci-fi epic, a.k.a. the highest-grossing film of all time.

"Our plan right now is to do (Avatar 2 and Avatar 3) as a single large production and release them a year apart," Cameron told the assembled journalists. "In order to do that, we have to refine our technical processes beyond the end of where we were finishing Avatar one a year ago. We need to future-proof ourselves out five or six years to the end of the third film."

When asked whether this delay could mean he might direct the 3D Cleopatra film with Angelina Jolie that he's been rumored for, Cameron said, "I haven't made any decisions about that." He did say, however, that he'll not work on a film in-between Avatar 2 and 3. "It's really a question of whether or not I do one between now and when we start two. We're evaluating how much of our techwork and how much of our facility work it's going to take," he explained. "That's not decided as of right now. I'd love to just start on Avatar 2 right now, but I don't know if that's possible or if it makes sense to wait."

Cameron also revealed that the recent buzz that he was constructing a special sub so that he could shoot parts of Avatar 2 at the lowest point in the ocean weren't entirely accurate. He said he's going primarily for himself and that not everything's about movies.

He also addressed rumors that Sigourney Weaver might return as Dr. Grace Augustine, a character that appeared to have died at the end of the first Avatar. ""Who said she died? Nobody dies in a science fiction movie. Whether Grace lives or dies depends more on Sigourney's agent than anything," the director quipped.

He also needs to find a role for Bill Paxton, and Jenette Goldstein. And Lance too. Gotta find something for him.

And of course....
