When I walked out I wanted to walk right back in. I usually don't see films in 3D but this time I had to. I loved this film. I was completely taken back to the days of watching Ray Harryhausen movies on a Saturday afternoon in the 80's. I have to have a John Carter figure and definitely a Dejah Thoris. It captured my imagination.

That would be extremely awesome! Hopefully we'll get one! :rock :rock :rock

I hope so! :hi5: :rock :rock

Same here. :D

I'll probably go see JC again next weekend with my cousin who couldn't make it this last Saturday.

Saw this last night, really loved the movie. Didnt have any interest until I saw the trailer. Figured the movie would be decent, turned out to be really great. Very much enjoyed it, will definitely get it on Bluray.

Thats the problem. Ppl are comparing this to Avatar. Which was a silly story but everyone loves cus it was all blues and greens and looked good. John Carter looked great for me personally.going to see it again in IMAX cus the 2D looked so good.

In the end I loved this movie, gives me the same feeling I get as when I first watched New Hope.

I didn't. I knew Avatar stole the ____ out of this story 10000 times over.

But, I will say, Avatar had a more amazing visual look, and did give me the feeling of being in an alien world.

Everyone save one person who saw this said they enjoyed it. I wonder if it'll get a higher box office due to word of mouth in the second week.

I wonder too. Everyone is loving it. It was tanking a bit, but I could see it killing The Lorax by next week.

I'm sure this movie is better then that stupid fluffy orange turd.

Well I am comparing them as they are very similar. The fact Avatar was written after John Carter doesn't make it any less similar :dunno

Also just because Avatar was written after doesn't mean John Carter is a better film.

If I had to sum John Carter up in one word it would be BLAND. Everything about the visuals to the characters was bland!

I was completely transported to Pandora and I was emotionally invested in Jake's plight. I am not an Avatar nut but I did very much enjoy it. JC was a shocking failing imo when comparing it with Avatar or Star Wars.

As for regular audience members who've seen it, I'm still hearing about 4 or 5 positive responses for every one negative. I think that the word of mouth from people who were surprised to find they enjoyed the film will help it a bit. Enough to make back the 250 million budget? Probably not gonna happen. But I still enjoyed the movie.

Visuals were awesome in this film. Easily the best CGI aliens ever done to that scale IMO.
The costumes and set designs were gorgeous and reminded me so much of the classic 60s-70s style of fantasy films only of much better quality and scale.

^ Christopher Johnson would like to disagree with you.

And I guess that's why I didn't like it. I don't like that style of movies. I never have. The only 70's Sci-Fi movies I love are A New Hope, and Alien. :lol

Was it better or worse then SW Ep I,II,III?...Did you like Close Encounters of the Third kind ?...That was from the 70's?...just curious..

I love adventure style fantasy films like Clash of the Titans, Flash Gordon, Krull, etc so this fit right in there, only not as cheesy 70s and 80s effects.

I think the only problems Disney should have with this film is as been stated the advertising, but also how on earth do films cost $250m to make? The costs of filming is out of control. That's the problem. You can almost buy a baseball team for that.

Indeed. You know the funny thing is, Transformers 3 was cheaper to make then John Carter, Spider-man 3, and Pirates 3. Go figure. :lol

I'm stuck choosing between seeing this or Chronicle tomorrow....haven't decided yet :impatient:

Well...I'm sure everyone will disagree, but Chronicle was an amazing movie. And since this will be around for a while, go see Chronicle. It'll be long gone soon.

After reading many posts in here of folks seeing this with low expectations with the critical drubbing it's taken and actually really enjoying it, well, the marketing mice at Disney are being handed their next step (and probably missing it)...the "reaction" ad...you know, the one where you see folks coming out of the theater talking about how good the movie was. Only instead of the usual texting teen hoards featured in the ones for those "found footage" paint -by-numbers horror flicks , actually include some older folks that really know the story and appreciate the film for the fun romp it is, and have some choice quotes like "better than I thought it would be" or "reminded me of some of the fun old movies I saw when I was younger" ...

It's just a thought....
