Re: Keaton Batman

Thanks Paul, man, the fond memories of watching that show growing up, the West HS looks perfect. The classic show isn't on DVD in the U.S. correct? Just the one movie that didn't star Newmar as Catwoman.

Yeah, WB is once again being stupid on this one.

Re: Keaton Batman

There are so many pros and cons with these two figures that I'd like to go thru them with some nice photos but your right MaulFan, Rojas' Batman torso is wider than Shawn's but mostly due to the fact that the rubber suit isn't properly glue back to the body. I can push it back in to the body and it looks much better.

Shawn's torso is actually a bit too narrow when compared to the bulked up thighs. They are just a bit too thick IMHO. This is not as apparent in the photos as it is in hand but it is definitely a nit.

As far as the sculpt goes Rojas' captures Keatons head sculpt a bit more film accurately than Shawn's in a few different areas. Again, with some better photos this will be easier to see. What I notice most is that Shawn's neck narrows a bit more than Keaton's did in the film while Rojas' has that thicker look from shoulder to jaw line. Rojas' jaw is a bit wider than sharp and the lips aren't as puckered as Shawn's. Still just another nit though.:monkey1

The profile on Shawn's is killer and the ears of the cowl are much better than Rojas', in fact I think they're dead on. Rojas' ears are too tall and too straight.

Shawn's HS is solid resin and Rojas' is squishy rubber. I'm fine with either material. The advantage of the rubber though is that the "fingers" of the cowl are flexable around the shoulders thus avoiding the cape puntures that I got into while posing mine.:monkey2 With the resin you've of course got a nice solid HS.

Shawn's eye's are painted perfect. A little white and a nicely done blue iris. And no white dot. I hate that dot. Rojas' eyes have the dot but his eyes are positioned more realistically in the cowl compared to Shawn's. The reason Shawn's aren't seen well is that the HS has them a bit too far sunk into the mask to see.

The belt on Shawn's is superb and painted just the right color gold. I may do a very light wash of black over it just to bring out the awesome detail though. Rojas' belt is just plain awful.:monkey4

Articulation is great on both especially considering the armor on this dude which is cut and applied much better on Shawn's than Rojas'.

Shawn went to alot of trouble to find the cape material and it looks great but is a bit stiff (sorry Shawn!). I found it difficult to get it where I wanted it and for it to stay or for it to hang naturally. I've got it completely folded back and under the cowl's neck in the pictures above. I think it's the best looking position I've had it in since futzing with it and I'm completely happy with the look I've achieved with it. Rojas' cape is much softer and easier to work with but the material doesn't look as film accurate as Shawn's.

Shawn's is obviously larger than Rojas' and therefore truer to scale in my eyes. That fact alone gains major points over Rojas' Bats for me.

Overall I prefer Shawn's to Rojas' even though I think Rojas' sculpt from below the ears down has a more film accurate Keaton look in hand. Looking at them side by side makes Rojas' Bats seem a bit toyish. Shawn's simply is a well built, great looking figure at an excellent price and I'm more than thrilled to have the privilege to own one.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another figure from him in the future. In fact I sincerely hope he finds a way to make at least Bob if not more figures from this movie. Please.:D

That's about it for tonight. I'll try to get some nice comparison shots up tomorrow.

Now that's detailed. Thanks, Coco!

Shawn's Batman looks like the clear winner from the photos, but it's interesting to note the differences in each figure in hand.

Re: Keaton Batman

an excellent write up there. Sounds like there are plus and minus points on both of them. Another thing to add is that the one on the left has the correct shape on the cowl around the batman symbol.

this part...

If I had the money I would have jumped in on this though... either one look great. I'll probably end up having to make my own in the future :lol

Re: Keaton Batman

Thanks Darren and Wor-Gar!

And yes, Rojas' does have the slightly more film accurate cowl shape as well as the more oval Bat symbol. As seen in this pic my symbol is about the same color as the belt so I will be repainting it yellow like I did to the Rojas' Bats.

Overall though Shawn's is definitely the better figure by far and well, WELL worth the money. I am so glad I picked this one up. He is such a great looking Batman!

Re: Keaton Batman

Very interesting review. Just from your photos, I think Shawn's looks better above and below the cowl myself. Alex's has this huge chest, which is not like Keaton at all, and Shawns has a more realistic posture.
I prefer Shawn's cowl too. I always liked that in Batman, the cowl was this huge, wide, rounded helmet almost. And they trimmed that all down by BR.
Shawn's captures that a bit more to me. And the irregular ears. They never did line up right that first go round.

As for colors, no comparison. Shawn's hands down.
And by the way, as long as eye color isn't that big a deal, Keaton's eyes are green, not blue. There has never been a blue eyed movie Batman, even West. All are shades of green or brown. But the eyes on your figure look super!

Great set of figures!

Re: Keaton Batman

Thanks Coco, definitely liking the new Bats... like you said both have pros and cons. But, the scale is a biggie in my book as well.

Re: Keaton Batman

Wow, you guys are lucky! Thanks to Les and Shawn! Love mine just the same and Shawn, you are quite welcome my friend! :blackbat

Re: Keaton Batman

Cool, these improvements actually makes it worth being in the later groups. It also makes the wait that much difficult.:monkey2

Re: Keaton Batman

Nice. I was going to jump ship till that new scupt popped up. Looks much better.

WOW, just WOW. Shawn is hands down an amazing guy. Granted, he's working kinda by order not rolling out a 3000 piece production run and calling it a day, but he simply doesn't stay satisfied with his product and continues to chip at it until he and his consumer's are happy, that's frickin' amazing. I can't wait to get this thing, and it's very exciting to be getting these improvements, as if the thing didn't blow me away utterly already.

Thanks Shawn, look forward to seeing you post around here!

Don't jump ship! You guys were in for a treat before the changes and now that the new sculpt is out I just can't imagine a better representation of Keaton Bats ever being made. And what's more is that a more film accurate boot might be on the way as well.

Jump on board!

Re: Keaton Batman

The boot is cool too, but that's the last place I'll be looking at in length on this piece. However, I did get a chuckle seeing on the DVD that his shoes were Nikes, apparently Tim Burton and James Cameron enjoyed the Nike bug of the late 80s haha. Air Batmans coming your way! I always thought they were custom made boots, but given the physical work in the film, it was probably a choice to provide Keaton and the stuntmen with comfortable footwear to stand up to the work hours.

Re: Keaton Batman

Great update from Shawn! I was happy with the figure as it was... but this is even better!

Re: Keaton Batman

wow . .its great that the maker is continually striving to improve his already awesome work. The new headpiece looks great though the original one looked fanatstic anyway. My only gripe with the figure are the overly bulky thighs.

Re: Keaton Batman

now that he's fixed that cowl around the insignia (and other improvements he's made) if I ever sort my finances out in the future, I'll absolutely be getting one of these :rock

Re: Keaton Batman

Each time a custom project pops up here, I grow more appreciative of this board. In the space of a few years, we've gone from nit-picky buyers to true hobbyists, supporting and in some cases developing some great custom artists.

Shawn's Keaton Batman...Spenser's Goldfinger and Blofeld...Darren's new Lennon project...and Christian Bale as whoever-you-choose by Feng, available nowhere else so far as I know, thanks to Jack...

Yep, this is the place to be for 1:6. We gotcher honest-to-gosh 1:6 Hall of Fame right here at the Freaks board, folks. I look forward to hearing more from Shawn.

Re: Keaton Batman

Great post Gruff! This board really has some great 1/6 figure enthusiasts... but ones that are also willing to help a fellow collector out and not just try and keep their collection the best.

Its good to be a freak!!! :rock
