Re: Keaton Batman

I think alot of it has to do with the paint apps and the eyes on the HT Bats too. Shawn's has a bit more realism to it.

The eyes definitely add to it, but I actually find the mouth just has an odd expression to it, almost like they sculpted it based on when Rachel tells him she can't be with him and love him so long as he's Batman and he gets a little weapy inside, he needs more of that "I can't handle two of your pawns?" look.

Re: Keaton Batman

Maybe we better share notes on how to get the cigarette smell out.

Once he was left out of the package for a bit he was fine. The smell was a bit strong at first, but really dissapeared quickly once left out.

It was really not a big deal to me.

GB, did you have a cigarette smell to yours too? I had that rubber/incense type smell but I think these guys are saying theirs smells like an ash tray and mine didn't have that, at least not noticeable to me, my father smokes so maybe I don't notice it like people that avoid smokers. My rubber smell did go away though, it's there a bit but not so much.

Re: Keaton Batman

It was a hard smell to place... kind of cigarette, but also a bit sweet. Thats why I was a bit unsure of which it was; smoker or materials.

But after a couple days on the shelf it went away, it is not something that should cause someone to avoid the figure. As good as he looks he could smell like a turd and I'd still love him :love
(Some of you sickos would probably love him more :lol)

Mine was the same way. Not quite like a SSC odor but not a definite smoke smell.
And yeah, definitely nothing that degrades the coolness of the figure in any way. As far as a turdy smell goes, well that might not turn gboy away but I can't say the same for me.:D

Re: Keaton Batman

Actually, I don't think I'd use Fabreeze or anything you spray directly onto it. Probably park one of those cans of odor absorber near it for a day or so. Or box it for a day with some of those warning-do-not-eat moisture absorber things that come inside everything.

This figure looks so cool, I can't wait....

Re: Keaton Batman

He still stinks, and now my toy room stinks. I think I will put in a bag with odor eaters for a few days and see if that helps. Now, on to the figure.

Overall a nice custom figure. You can instantly tell who his is. The paint is nice and are the eyes. The chest armor is nice and I'm glad the bat symbol and fins are corrected. My only nitpicks are his eyes are too recessed into the head, they don't line up right with his cheeks and the rest of his face and he left horn is crooked. The cigarette smoke is something that should not come on any product and that is poor service. Hate to harp on it, but I can't stand smoke.

As for better than mass produced HT or Takara Batman, for a hand made custom he better be. I do think a 89 Batman made by the HT's of right now with the awesome sculpts and paint job could make one just as good, if not better since they could produce a thinner body suit that would prolly be made from rubber/pleather than use lycra.

Now some pics.

I kept noticing that in all the pics and I thought it was just me, but there is a little bend in the right point. I think it was worse before, but there is still a slight bend.

I really think the smell will go away, but I do agree that it does come across as, I dunno, I wouldn't call it bad service--maybe just poor decision making on his part. We've all been complimenting Shawn on his machine-like ability to churn these out--so I doubt he's going outside eveytime he wants a smoke. On the other hand, I bought my Jason Part 3 off a guy on eBay and when I got him he reeked of smoke AND his right leg was really, really loose (unbeknowst to me). I didn't even hesiate to give him uncomplimentary neutral feedback (I was being nice there). He came back all pissed and I said, "Listen, you sold me a semi-broken figure from a smoker's home and didn't mention either--you should be happy I didn't give you negative feedback."

My Bats has been opened since Monday noonish and he still smells like he was up all night playing poker and smokin Kools.

Re: Keaton Batman

Ive been going tropo since Wor-Gar posted his pics. I thought I understood how good this figure was from peoples excitement, and their want of expounding their thoughts, and from their teasing pics, but you guys, that have it on order, are going to Freak it.

Shawn is a machine and a demented perfectionist. I hate to cast negativity on Shawn. I knew before I contacted him he was a craftsman that took his work seriously. I didn't realise the patience I would need, to have him build me a figure. I am used to waiting six months, for a figure, because the distance from every country on the globe is so great. It comes with living down under. In an earlier post I said I had been waiting two years for the Pirate. I found some records which negates that. Really it was around 15 months.

Then came a thread that filled me with dread. I bit my lip and decided someone elses experience was not necessarily going to be mine. I know it doesn't matter what is said, when something is said, something usually sticks. Don't worry, I feared the worst but expected the best. Whatever happened in the past, has not affected my experience. I hope these recent commissions help Shawn to rectify any past hiccups, that can or could have occured without his willing participation. Lifes like that. I suspect the more interested members of this forum have been waiting to see this saga unfold. Shawn is back, let me tell you all that. Despite the past, he has delivered. I can't say I didn't want to air this laundry, cause I did. I think it needed mentioning because it is easy to say something when the person in question either knows nothing of it, or isn't able to respond. Let Shawns actions speak, is what I'm getting at, not someone's dispersions. Btw, I'm not talking about the smell.

Re: Keaton Batman

Today I received my Shawn custom Keaton Batman, along with The Pirate. Oh man.

What can I say that hasn't been said? Nothing. Nothing at all, so here are my pics. They are the same as everyone else's in this thread, practically, though I changed the angles so as not to incriminate the innocent. Well, just to be different really. My opinion? I thought I preferred the older face that Shawn sculpted, but having this in hand is different from seeing the pics. I find I really like this sculpt better. Shawn really captured Keatons pout without it looking pouty. I am also thrilled with the cape, because the textured surface isn't as pronounced as it appears in photo's. All the positives have already been mentioned. Evilfaces headshot really shows the green of the eyes. Being that the photo is a close up and much larger than it is in hand, it's hard to tell that they are green without the magnification a camera offers.

If I have to pick nits, there isn't anything that bears mentioning, other than the pleats sewn on the cape are ever so slightly assymetrical, the bat symbol on his chest is ever so slightly unlevel, to my eye anyway, so it could just be the stance I have him in and that it's going to take a while for the cape to loose the folds it acquired due to packaging and shipment. Nothing that concerns me, is what I should have said. I'm just trying to be informative and tell you my experience.

Mine has an almost sweet smell to it, with an underlying synthetic chemical odour. It's overpowering my own stink, iffen ya know what I mean. Breath it up Gruff. You'll have yours soon.

Hot Toys comparison.

The rubberised components on Shawns Batman are WAY more impressive than the Begins. They aren't as glossy or plasticy looking. In other words it looks natural. This isn't so much of an issue with the body components as it is with the cowl. Side by side it just rips Hot Toys down. The paint aps on Shawns looks real. On the Begins it looks paisty. The rubber on Shawns also feels denser. When you poke the Begins figure it gives. Thats because Shawns is more form fitting, The lycra suit takes the shape of the figure underneath and the mouldings must have been made to suit. Whereas the Begins figures moldings, hold its form and it bellows out from the figure itself. It is most noticeable on the chest and arms.

Re: Keaton Batman

Mine arrived; here's a few quick (unfutzed) pictures at my girlfriend's place. More when I get the charger for my own camera replaced....

Incredible piece. If you're not on this bandwagon, get on!
