Re: Keaton Batman

I'm getting more and more interested in this figure - although I can't stand long waits, so probably won't be ordering one.

But if I did - and like I said I'm slowly but surely getting really interested - would someone be kind enough to tell me what the best version is, and perhaps post or link to photos of each version? Thanks.

You can't choose versions other than Batman 1989 or Batman Returns. There have been a handful of versions of the 1989 figure, but they're like computer software, upgrades to the previous one and you can only get the current version, you can't go backwards. Once someone receives one of these with Shawn's most current changes, you can get a rough idea of what you'd get, but even then by the time you get yours there could be more improvements made. I own version 2 and he's up to version 4 now, each one gets better than the one before so you'd be better off having to wait in the case of this figure.

Re: Keaton Batman

Personally I think V2 Bats has the better looking head and cowl, it being solid resin. The chin on V3 is a bit off but the latex mask over a resin head is done perfectly on this version.
Shawn said the chin is something that will be tweaked on V4 though.

Re: Keaton Batman

I agree with you Coco, I think the V2 had the best looking sculpt, but then the V3 added that sweet articulation. Sounds like the next version could be the best of both worlds.

Is that the one you get if you ordered recently/today or a later one?

Re: Keaton Batman

And that's very likely too. When I placed my order V2 was getting made. By the time mine arrived I had gotten a V3 Bats.

Re: Keaton Batman

I imagine Shawn may have arrived at a "final" version sometime ago but the process of making so many at once is allowing him to look at his creation process as well as the overall piece and look closer for points where he feels he can improve things. When I first was doing art, I'd often do the same characters in drawings over and over looking for ways to do it better than the last, often times drawing the same pose and things for comparison. I'm sure as overwhelming as this Freaks project may get at times, as an artists, I imagine he's finding the experience very beneficial.

Re: Keaton Batman

So has the height problem been solved? Keaton was an accurate height Batman but by today's standards he would be considered too short.

Is the figure less that 6 scale feet (not including ears)? Otherwise he is too tall...kind of like the SS Luke. :)

Re: Keaton Batman

I just got mine, very happy with him. I'm not sure if it's a V3 or V4, Shawn said:
I also figured out a weird thing about the face/cowl that I'm correcting. It may be the reason some of you prefer the old face, despite the goofy grin. On the current insert head, I didn't cut the chin in sharp enough. The neck has too much slope from the chin to where the Adam's apple would be, and it stretches the opening in the cowl into a subtle "V" shape. I'm fixing that. No problem, it's a quick Dremel solution:D
I've looked for a V3 picture to compare but I'm having a difficult time since images are turned off for me. I think what he's saying is that he fixed the look of the mouth opening on the mask so it looks smaller and the correct shape. I'll have to post later about that specifically.

I think I'll later try to stuff a little Cotton up under the back top portion of the mask so his eyes aren't so far up and back in the mask since the mask floats over the under head. I think a solution for this would be to glue the mask down at the nose area so it moves with the head and keeps the mask in place, but there's no knowing how a type of glue would react with the rubber mask. so I won't chance it.

I'll post pictures later.

Re: Keaton Batman

Yeah, I'm very curious to see what Shawn changed on yours screamingmetal. I'm pretty sure I know what he's saying about the chin area.

Re: Keaton Batman

Okay, took a couple of quick photos.
My camera is crappy so they're not at all close. I also had a HELL of a time poseing it. Without good neck articulation, the poses are very limited.

I'm pretty sure now that mine is a V3, not a V4.
Overall I love it, the only issue I have is with the cowl and head. Because the cowl floats on the head, it doesn't look right when the head is turned to either side or posed downward. I'm sure some cotton will fix the downward pose issue, but the side to side one needs the mask part glued down somehow to the face. Something I don't want to do because it'll screw up the rubber. Personally, I wish the emblem wasn't glued down to the chest so the mask won't deform when turning the head side to side.
But I'm being picky here, I'm very happy with mine and Shawn did one hell of a job!

I should also mention the packaging, I've never seen a figure so nicely and carefully packed. Whomever packed this did a wonderful job as well!
