Re: Keaton Batman

That's a cool bit of trivia pjam.

The guns do indeed pop up. This is a 1:18 scale Hot Wheels prepainted metal replica. It's got great detail and heft to it. The body is metal, the tires are rubber, the c.o.c.k.pit is detailed and the silver parts like the guns and mufflers have a really cool tarnished chrome finish to them. I couldn't be happier with it!

Re: Keaton Batman

If I remember well an exact same Batmobile scale 1:1 was the first price in some sort of lottery game when this film was showing in cinema.
I believe it was young boy who won it, and the car did not have an engine.
Read this in my local newspaper.

Re: Keaton Batman

It is a great rendition of the Batmobile, I have it too, I have 3 cars that size which are my favorite, wish I could own cars; KITT from Knight Rider, 1989 Batmobile, and 1967 Shelby Mustang GT 500. I love the functionality on it. Coco, did you know you can pull at the front, center piece that looks like a missile coming out, it exposes some mechanical detailing, it's a pretty cool.

No, I didn't know that. That is cool! Is there anything else it does that I don't know about? A real thrust flame maybe?:lol

Not that I'm aware of. I only discovered that feature cleaning it one day, I was holding onto that part, my other hand slipped and it slid out. I think it's a way of making the piece cover Batman and Batman Returns because in Returns, the Penguin's goons slide that part out to do their work on it, but a true Returns Batmobile should have the split off action.

Re: Keaton Batman

I only have a few 1:18 diecast cars and this one was the first. It really is a great model, as is the Tumbler. I can't see getting DCD's Tumbler for 5 times the price of the Hot Wheels one.

Of course the 1:18 Barris is the be all/end all of Batmobiles. I can't believe I bought the exclusive at SDCC and Barris was sitting there and even spoke to me, but I didn't recognize him and failed to get it autographed. In retrospect I think he was a bit offended I didn't ask.

Those are beauties, Dave. too bad you couln't get Barris to sign it, saw a signed one go for $800 on ebay although I know this would be for your personal collection. If you live in L.A. I'm sure you could arrange meeting him at his shop and he would sign it for you.

My Giink custom 66 Batmobile is just about complete. It's not 100% accurate but pretty close only its more like 1/7 scale. I just hope my figs fit into it okay, that would be enough for me.

Oh, one other thing, I bet we will see many more of these 1:18 HW Barris Batmobiles made. Hope so anyway...

Re: Keaton Batman

The excitement made me go looking in some old very old boxes to find some things. Found some books that came out when the movie originally hit! Those that were way young when it came out prolly don't remember how huge this movie and promotion was. Batman was everywhere and on everything. The hype for new movies, LOTR, Spiderman, even Star Wars do not compare to the hype for Batman.

Can't wait to get a nice 1/6th scale figure :chew :chew

Re: Keaton Batman

Cool, EF! I have some of those books.

And yeah, the hype for Batman was insane -- it lasted the entire year before the film's release. Bat-things everywhere. And everyone had a black cap with that Bat logo on it. I remember asking the doorman at the AMC to let me into the theater just so I could watch the trailer.

I was lucky enough to go to the Westwood Premiere. All the streets were red carpet, they had the Joker's balloons flying, Bat signals in the sky, and throngs of screaming fans, pretty crazy. I can't say that I enjoyed the movie that night... but the fanfare and the year-of-hype was so much fun that I loved the "Batman experience" just the same.

And you're right -- even the year-long hype for "The Phantom Menace" doesn't compare to the Bat year of 1989. Star Wars fans were excited about Menace... but EVERYONE was excited about Batman. Even my parents.

Re: Keaton Batman

Yeah, Batmania of 1989 was something. I remember the T-shirts with the bat face on it was everywhere like it was a fashion thing. There was even some band on Carson where the guitar player was wearing a bat shirt -- and the band had nothing to do with the movie.

Though I would suggest that The Phantom Menace was bigger among fans and watching the movie several times was more of a thing. But Batman was more pervasive and all these baby boomers who normally were cool to luke warm about movies were excited and we as a culture hadn't been that excited for a movie coming out like that before and that added to the whole thing. It was like Halo 3 in that regard.

Re: Keaton Batman

To this day Batman (1989) is the most fun i have ever had at a movie. I won tickects on the radio that morining for the midnight show. Thay had batman costume contestes lots and lots of givaways. And before the show started, while in the theater, they were throwing out bat stuff. Frisbee's hats, shirts, toys from the film, all kinds of stuff. I have NEVER been to another showing of any movie like that again. It was so awesome. I remember I got a frisbee a shirt and a box of Batman cereal with a plactic Batman penny bank attached to it. Being 10 years old a getting to have that experience was really cool.

Oh,and I have that same Batmobile, I LOVE it!!

Re: Keaton Batman

Man, those book images bring back memories. I could swear I had that official hard cover book back in the day, it's hard to tell because I was only 6 when Batman came out, so memory is a littly fuzzy.

Re: Keaton Batman

All the stuff you guys just mentioned is why I love this movie so much. One of the things I really remember were the little catalogs they were passing out as you went into the theatre. It had some of the figures and vehicles that were going to be coming out and I poured over it before the movie started just wishing I had all of them right then and there.

Re: Keaton Batman

Wow, this thread has really turned into a Cornucopia of Batman trivia and entertainment. I had no idea, thought it would be a page or two. :lol

Re: Keaton Batman

Actually, I would have to attribute my "action figure collectng" to BATMAN.

I got a couple cool 3 3/4" Batman figures -- one was the Joker hanging from that string, remember? -- anyway, so then I saw this Gilbert pack of 10 Bond figures in a thrift store and had to have it. I thought: hey I got Bond and some old vintage SW figs and now these new Batman figures, now I have to hunt down those Indy Jones figures from 1981...

And so began and endless collecting spree that still rages on.

And now with the 1/6th JOKER, I feel I've come full circle since that little Joker-on-a-string got me started.

Re: Keaton Batman

We had a bunch of those magazines and other materials as well, that movie really was the shiznit when it came out. I also had the plastic bank that came with, I think, a cereal.

The comic adaptation was pretty good to, if I remember correctly.

Re: Keaton Batman

Well, Batman didn't get my started on collecting, but it sure was one of the early properties I had in bulk. First toys I really got heavily into was Star Wars, I was 4 and it was the first thing that really hit home with me. I'd been into Transformers and M.A.S.K. but not as much as Star Wars. After Star Wars, Batman and Ninja Turtles really hit with me. I grew up on superhero TV reruns (Batman, Greatest American Hero, Incredible Hulk, Wonder Woman- Linda Carter is hot) and it just rolled from there. When Batman the movie came out, I was ecstatic, had all the toys, books, trading cards, it was a lot of fun for a 6 year old. One of the funnest toys I had as a kid was the Batgun from the first movie, it shot these rubber darts with suction cups, so I'd run around the house using windows for targets cuz the darts would stick, or I'd line figures up on the fireplace for a shooting gallery. And here's one of many reasons why I consider myself very blessed with the parents I have. After Batman came out, I had to be Batman for Halloween, and at the time, they had some decent rubber masks in stores, but for their price they weren't that good. My mom, wanting to take care of her little boy, went out and bought fabric and all on her own, made me a Batman cape and cowl. I loved that thing so much, I played in it throughout the year, not just a Halloween suit, and for home made it was fantastic.

After Batman, Returns kept my love going and my figure collection growing, and then there was the original Animated series of the early 90s, and at the time, I was young enough to remotely enjoy Forever and Batman and Robin, so those kept me going, but after that, things kinda died when Batman fell of the map. Then Begins reinvigorated my love for the character. I only wish I'd known about Medicom and Hot Toys and Takara when those figures would knew so I could secure one, but unfortunately, I came into the game about 6 months past the ideal time to get those pieces. Oh well, Dark Knight should help out, and scoring this Keaton Batman is certainly one of the best pieces I could get for Batman.

Batman was my first fig. But I started with models. I collected Batman Comic books too... they were destroyed in a basement flood at my house. :monkey2
