Re: Keaton Batman

I got mine today - it is a beautiful, beautiful thing. The mark of a great custom for me is that it doesn't look like a custom, and this doesn't.

That said, I'm going to sell him (for what he cost me or less) because I can't stand the smell. I'm really sensitive to the smell of cigarettes, and this is just disgusting. It actually made me retch the first time I held him close to my face so I could examine the eyes. My daughter expires theatrically every time she comes near it, and I don't want her getting used to the smell of cigarettes. I literally have nowhere to display this where it doesn't make me ill, so it's currently wrapped in bubblewrap in my mailbox.

I seem to remember it cost me $125 plus shipping - anyone wants to buy it I'll sell it for $120, free shipping, just to get it out of the house and get the money back quickly. PM me if you're interested.

Re: Keaton Batman

I had the same reaction when mine arrived. I didn't want him near my other figures.

I put him in a sealed plastic ziploc bag with a box of baking soda -- the kind made for the refrigerator to absorb smells with the powder sealed behind a filter -- and threw in a pair of Dr Scholl charcoal shoe inserts for good measure. Then I forgot about him for a good month.

He's displayed with the other prize pieces of my collection now, and none of them has any complaints.

It really does go away, I just let him air out for a few days and was fine. But some of the other methods mentioned would seem to work as well.

But he really won't always smell that funky.

Re: Keaton Batman

Yep. He'll destinkify. Gruff's idea should speed the process along. That figure is too cool to give up on so quickly CB.

Re: Keaton Batman

Three of the last four shipped this past Tuesday:

figurefreaks
eighthsamurai
captain britain

Should be there around the middle of next week; all three are overseas.

figurefreaks
eighthsamurai
.......

I have two lists; one with personal info for shipping and one with forum names only for posting. One list had both of you guys marked as shipped back in May! It wasn't until I saw FigureFreak's recent "still waiting" post that I figured it out. Sorry for the screw-up, you guys were long overdue!:monkey1

I've got one on order too Shawn...so you can't have one left?!?!?! There's got to be at least three...Me (Lee in MI), 8th Wonder and Yodasan.

I think you should check the list again and get back to us.

Btw, I sent you an email today before I saw this thread come back up. LMK if you got it. I'm getting concerned now.

I sent Shawn a PM yesterday about ordering a Keaton Batman and he's still either got some or taking orders for them because he responded saying he would gladly do one for me. I would say there is no reason for concern that he doesn't have any.

Re: Keaton Batman

Cap Britain,

Dude, let Mother nature air this out or follow Gruff's suggestions. You don't want to let this masterpiece go, believe me. Nothing compares.

Yeah, but I've made up my mind now. Besides, I've got supernostrils - I REALLY notice tobacco smells for years. God help my kids if they ever decide to take up smoking. But thanks for all the suggestions, I might try them to make the figure a little more pleasant for the next owner.

The figure itself is superb. Two things I really value are durability - which it has - and a great silhouette. I was worried it might be a little stocky, but it's not, or at least, no stockier than Keaton. I can't fault it, except for the fact that the cape's a little rumpled, which I assume is just from being packed.

I'm having bad luck with Batman! I flipped a Takara Batman earlier this year because although it had a perfect silhouette I didn't trust the rubber suit not to split at some point (incidentally, I'm glad Shawn kept the suit partly cloth, not full rubber, which he said he had experimented with). Now I'm itching to get the HT Dark Knight Batman but I just don't believe the legs are going to be long enough.

Re: Keaton Batman

Supernostrils.:lol I understand though. I hope your able to sell him soon. You'll need tha cash for HT's TDK stuff for sure.

Re: Keaton Batman

Bummer man, but if its any help I have literally stuck the guy up to my nose recently and there is no smell other than the rubberish odor of the material. I have a fairly sensitive sniffer, but you are like the Daredevil of scent then maybe it is a lost cause :lol

Re: Keaton Batman

I got one from plasmid and it still stinks to hell. I'm going to try to Armorall it. I know where CB is coming from. I'm a fanatical anti-smoker and just smelling my fingers after touching this fig is disgusting.

If I was a character in Heroes, Sylar would have eaten my brain in Series 1, just so he could smell what I smell.

There's never been a superhero with super-smelling powers, has there? I guess if there was, farts would be like their Kryptonite.

Re: Keaton Batman

YAY!!!! I finally got him. After 5 months of waiting ABC has delivered on the goods. My Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne figure...

From certain angles it's Keaton all the way but overall not the most perfect likeness and a bit angry looking at that. With a repaint though I think he'll really shine.

The tux is awesome. The tailoring is perfect and the black trencher that came with him will be great for a custom Napier with a black hat.

The paint apps is very nice but the colors are inaccurate. The lowest point of the figure are the loose ankle joints.

I'll be turning mine into a "Bruce at the court house steps" version and maybe casting the head for a couple more versions as well.

The 1/6 bust that came with him is just icing on the cake. It's made out of a semi rigid plastic similar to what's used for those kids coin banks but you wouldn't know that just looking at it.

I highly recommend this to any 1989 Batman fan. It's a very, very well done custom run figure.

Re: Keaton Batman

Looks great Coco. I already have a nice turtleneck and jeans for a Batcave Bruce if I get one -- been holding back to save funds for other stuff.

I may pick him up down the line. Thanks for the pics!

Re: Keaton Batman

Can't say i mind the smell of sigs much, i'm a smoker myself. So no problem for me.

Re: Keaton Batman

It's a strange concept to me. Most people say how much they enjoy the petro-chemical smell of their figures.:duh

Mine didn't smell at all. Weird. Where's mine??? I want mine smoked to preserve the leathery goodness. :monkey2

I guess I'm going to be the BUTT of the jokes around here for a while...but I don't care. This morning my face looked wrinklier. That evil homunculus has to go.

Plus, it's the smell of American cigarettes which has caused the real offence to my air. Over here we smoke much weaker brands. Americans, I salute your lungs. Thank God Shawn isn't French.

Re: Keaton Batman

Not making fun of you CB. You have an allergy, put your case, got some good advice.

I do think it ironic though. People that have to have the petro smell to invigorate their newly aquired figure feast. Mine didn't smell and I feel left out. I just don't see the problem, as the smell can be nullified. You have a particular abhorrence to it. Your solution is to sell it. Someone is going to get a bargain. It has brought out a rash of irritated parties, that are just repeating old tales of woe. Some people collect Star Wars. :lol That these tales didn't dissuade these people to purchase the figure in the first place, which I don't think it should, but then to groan about it now, seems wrong to me.

Okay, no one told them, but the smell dissipates over time, on its own, and you can take measures to hasten that process. Later, everythings fine, but it serves as a warning, that I will not take any notice of, but thanks anyways guys.

That's one version I'd like to do also. Can't seem to find a black turtle neck though.
