Finally got mine unboxed and displayed and its bloody awesome! :banana
the best piece I have EVER received bar non. WETA did a fantastic job on this. Pity Anne's arm had detached itself. Ive got a new one, inspected by weta on the way but right now Im just enjoying admiring this piece from every angle. Just brilliant. :joy

Sorry to hear that. The only error on mine is a factory problem. There is a visible seam line where Ann's hair attaches to her head. It seems that the hair is a separate piece that they glued on. They didn't line mine up properly when they glued the pieces together.

It's not worth sending this behemoth back to Bob for something so trivial, and no one will be looking at Ann anyway. She seems to be the most fragile part on the entire sculpt.

GAHH!!! Looking at all these pics is torture!:drool Especially since I won't get mine until next month when shipment number 2 arrives. :banghead

In the house! Wow, what a piece, and it came perfect (thanks again Bob), though the box was somewhat scuffed - and don't even ask about the foam corners.

Easily one of the best Weta pieces, if not the very best. :banana  :joy

The Edition is 4000 it originally was 3000 but weta moved it up to 4000. I personally think its one the most impressive pieces I have ever seen. Its right up there with RWOS.

I agree Elwood. Anne certainly does seem quite fragile. You're right though, no one will be looking at Anne because Kong truly holds the limelight. :D
I ALMOST got an Artist Proof sent to me as my replacement before weta discovered the last one was (get this) sent to George Lucas not a few days ago. :google

WOW! That is a really neat little tidbit of info!

Has anybody here received an Artist Proof of this statue?

Ya know, even with the 4000 edition size, I think this statue could rise in
value in the future possibly, because it is just so amazing! If the RWoS
and the Death Dealer both go for more than retail, and they have higher
edition sizes than K vs VR, this one surely could go up in the future.

DEFINITELY glad that I've got one in my collection. :banana

JS, unfortunately all the AP's have gone to VIP's this time round.
I agree JS that this piece could definetely rise in price. The Es may be large but alot of retailers have sold through on this piece. I never thought Id pay this much for a statue but once it was in the house, I just forgot about the financial aspect. And this is a piece, for me, that I think beats out the likes of the original balrog and dare I say it? Cavetroll. *Ducks from oncoming cave troll hammers* :angelsmil

Well, here's my picture again with Kong next to Cavey:

Arwen - I concur totally that Kong vs. V-Rex really does blow the original
Balrog out of the water, due to the SIZE and the dynamic pose shown.
As for beating Cavey, well I'll say they're neck-and-neck for me.
I wouldn't part with either one of them, as they're both keepers. :banana

I'd have to disagree. Me personally I had no problem pulling the trigger on the Original Rog at $2200 but still haven't pulled the trigger on Kong at $350. I'm not sure it's even neck and neck with the CT with me personally. The Kong piece is fantastic and so so so well done. But better than those two LOTR pieces??? Maybe I'm just too much of a LOTR fan.

I'm gonna get the Kong piece but not till he fits $$$ wise.

As the ole saying goes "To each their own".

Great pic Jim! I recieved my Kong vs Rex statue last week and I love it. As for the Balrog and Cave Troll, I have had the pleasure of owning both. I sold my Balrog a good while back but the Cave Troll I could not bring myself to sell. I share the same thoughts on the Cavie as you Jim. I always favored it over the Holy Grail Original Balrog and dont think it will ever leave my home. Anyhow, here's to every Kong vs Rex, Cave Troll, Daddy Rog owner! :rock

Ok, so Weta does not completely suck.

You are Josh.............you ARE! :google :wacky ;)

Seriously though - just from a purely visual standpoint, I do honestly
believe that Kong vs. V-Rex really outdoes the Sideshow Balrog.
Due to the small size of the balrog, and the fact that his wings aren't
fully extended, it isn't in it's most "iconic" pose from FOTR.

Kong on the other hand is HUGE, dynamic, and in his biggest fight from
the movie, which was a Helluva throw-down with those three V-Rex's.

Don't wait around too long on Kong, or he won't fit $$$ wise, he'll be
too darned expensive when everybody who has it won't part with it! :banghead

I can see where it would for some. I was truly amazed by it at SDCC but for me personally it just doesn't out do the Balrog.

Yeah, this piece is very dymanic that's for sure and comes almost virtually from that exact scene.

Nah, I don't see this going up much at all. It's a 4k ES for a movie that is great IMO but hasn't done what many thought it would do at the B.O. Not to mention the fan base for this movie isn't all that large. Where as the LOTR has a mega huge fan base which has helped push many of these pieces to all time highs.

But the Bowen/Frazetta Death Death Dealer didn't even have a movie to
support the statue, and it still goes for higher dollars, because it LOOKS great!
Same thing with Kong I believe. Only time will tell.......................

I do agree that the Balrog is a cooler overall creature/monster, but the
Sideshow Statue, for me, just sells him short of what he should look like.
One day I'll find the best Balrog statue in the world, with wings fully spread.
It'd have to be BIG though, as I love BIG statues! Over 4 ft. wide would do!
Then, and only then, will the Balrog LOOK his best - imposing and Bad@$$!

It is from a semi-famous painting though so that helps but I get your point. I just don't see the Kong piece taking off it might go up some over time but nothing crazy. In this world of collectibles we live in a 4k ES piece just doesn't jump that much anymore. Especially if its not LOTR or SW.

Your right though only time will tell.

I disagree that it sells him short but it's cool. :D

Interesting idea :D

I would love to buy this piece, but out of my budget, would get it if it comes down to $250 - $300 shipped.

I just placed my order at Fireside, I couldn't resist anymore after seeing everyones pictures. I have no idea where I am going to put it though.
