Just a quick question:

Does L.A NOIRE requires online-Pass for PS3????? :monkey3

No, you can log into the Rockstar social club for the extra suit, but if you access PS Store, it'll lock up.

Impressions are similar to others:

Facial animation is stunning.
Cases are fun, but a little repetitive
Different type of game
great voice acting/acting in general

l don't think it's worth buying. it doesn't have much replay value. it is a long game 20 hours or so.

Hmm 20 hours... So if i call in sick on Friday...7 hours a day Marathon weekend....hmm.

Doesnt sound practicable. This game seems to be one that you have to play in bits... Too much in one go really kills the appeal Just like watching 10 episodes in a row of law and order or any crime serial show.

I'm a Homicide Detective :yess: :panic: I'm in the Big Leagues Now:yess:

Does anyone know the status of the PS Store? Whens is is gunna be back so i can get my DLC?

This game is great. I'm at work and jonesing to go home and continue my work on The Red Lipstick Murder case.

If anything I get a Shenmue mixed with Phoenix Wright vibe when playing this and only the open city and driving make me think of GTA.

Shenmue was the first game that popped into my head once I had played enough to make a comparison, loved those games :lecture

Can't add much to what has already been said. The game is definitely different, in pace and mechanics, but I really like it. I also appreciate that it lends itself to being played in shorter spurts, as that is usually how my schedule allows me to play games anyways.

Besides, my craving for free roaming sandbox mayhem will be satiated when inFAMOUS 2 is released in a few short weeks :rock

This game is really interesting: its amazing to me how much detail went into a city that is not used as much as you would think. It sure adds to the depth of realism, so this is more of a surprise that they would take the time to do the city 'right.'

This is such an old school game in terms of pacing, so its existance, to me, is nothing short of a minor miracle. If not for the somewhat slow and tedious pacing, this would be a game of the year contender.

Given the amazing technical achievements, I'd say its worth a play no matter what. Do not regret this as a purchase. At all.

I need my PS3 DLC.....PS store, where are you?!?!?!?!

Really glad I got this on the PS3, as it seems clear this was the primary dev system

I love it. VERY different but in a good way. My d!ckhead friend who always play COD:BO was giving me sheet for playing LA Bore. Screw him, this is ballsy of Rockstar to do and I think they're the only ones who could have pulled it off. Kudos for something different.

It's going to be interesting to hear how the dudebro gamer (otherwise known as the GTA/CoD-only crowd, which makes up ~50% of the Rockstar buying demographic) thinks of L.A. Noire. I expect that a large contingent of people picking up L.A.N are Rockstar fans who assume that this will be like GTAIV or RDR and there will be a backlash because it is so unlike those games.

Which is why I like it. It's more like a pc adventure title than action.

I fall into the GTA/Red Dead crowd who bought this because of those games. I have an open mind though and had no expectations for this game to be anything like GTA or RDR. I guess I'll see when I finally get around to picking up my pre-order at Gamestop.

I may have to pick this up. I initially posted pass. However, the more comments I read here like this one make me want it.

Have to wait though. Maybe I can find some trades?

That's the mindset that I hope most people will have when going into LAN. It's just troubling that most of the ads and tv spots for this game showcase the gun combat and open city driving than the slower-paced investigative segments, which are a more prominent feature in this game.

Yeah I think you'd like it, badmoon. I mean, don't go in expecting anything like King's Quest or Lucasarts styled adventure though. It's not puzzle-laden but is more about clue-gathering.

:lol I stole it myself from somewhere else. It's pretty fitting.

I'm a big gaming fan, and unlike some of my friends I loved GTA IV. The fact they tried to make it realistic is something that actually appeals to me (I still love the over-the-top Saints Row series though).

I'm really thinking of picking this up sometime next week. Not really fussed about the Pre-Order DLC as Rockstar recently released the Pre-Order DLC for Red Dead Redemption (which i also loved). But it looks alot like Mafia II and Godfather games mixed together. Only new thing being the detective work gamplay wise.

Still, I have to admit, from what I've seen so far this new technology they've used is amazing.

Nice. :duff

Give it a shot, this is not RDR or GTA:IV but it does share...some similarities. Pretty solid so far.

Thats what I ended up doing myself. Paid it off with some trades and then used the rest plus what I paid to take care of Gears 3.

Use what you got Rusty, any luck with a job? Or has Missouri turned it's back on you? Good luck Jo____o!

Sadly no. :( Keep getting we've gone with other more qualified candidate bs. If its a non teaching job that is because I think they're afraid if they train me I'll leave. Teaching wise just not that many jobs in my field. Gonna have to go back and take some tests to get certified in other areas. Does feel as if the big mo has turned its back. Thank ya!! :duff

I'm already sick of this game. I've just gotten past the Fallen Idol case and everything just feels so repetitive.

Despite the advertisements for the game, I never expected this to be a GTA rehash or Red Dead Redemption in the 40s. I was looking forward to the crime aspects like the interrogations, evidence, chases, etc.

Sadly that's the worst part of it. I know it's not me, the interrogation and investigation sequences are completely off. I gather as much evidence as I can, sometimes more than what I've seen other people gather and yet I still have problems.

An example is at one point I found a hand pistol. Instead of just talking with a clerk, I gathered more evidence like the license of the pistol. I found that the owner and shooter matched and when it came to the interrogation time I found them to be lying and tried to use the weapon as evidence.

Nope, not good enough. You have to pick the predetermined choice for the sequence to move forward. No consequences for being wrong and no rewards other than progression for being right.

People that are clearly lying, through facial expressions and gestures more than half the time are telling the truth or you can doubt them. Even if you end up picking the right choice the responses don't make a damn bit of sense and information that you didn't even gather is used.

EDIT:

Oh, and the control layout. It's so ____ed up. I've gotten used to the usual layout but then this one turns everything upside down and cannot be changed. Par that with the fact that you only really use 3-4 buttons and it just feels mindless. In a chase you're literally holding in one button, sprint. You don't jump, you just move forward until you reach your destination/target, then it's either button mash punch and block or pull out your gun to blow them away.

You can only subdue the way the game makes you to. I've shot guys in the legs trying to apprehend them, alive only to have a cut scene where I've blown their heads off.

I love the setting, the graphics are fantastic and I enjoy playing as the character of Phelps. Like John Marston, it's refreshing playing as a good guy. However, I just can't get into the gameplay. The game feels rushed. Everything about it feels wrong. Hoping into your cruiser to investigate and chase, searching houses and being able to pick up anything and everything that's useless. It's just so limiting.

Yeah, I don't mind not being able to harm civilians, haven't even tried but you literally go from point A to B. There are no alternatives. There are no penalties. Side missions are not very abundant and short.

Wow, I couldn't disagree more.

I've been nailing all of the interrogation sequences. I love them.

Then again, I've buried myself in Forensics shows and James Ellroy 40's LA crime novels for years. This game was made for me. Loving it, so far.
