So I have given it some more though.... I think I am going to change my score from a 7 out of 10 to a 6 out of 10...
It Boils down to the goofy... Nature's Balance thing... In all honesty this Godzilla "personality wise" had more in common with the 98 Zilla then any of the old Godzilla's. This had to do with the fact that I thought Godzilla lacked a personality. His personality was that of a regular animal that was just too big for the modern world. Just like the Zilla. Hell even when the military attacks him he falls through a bridge and sort of runs (walks) away from the military rather then give them a good spanking.
This is why I did not like the whole Nature's avenger idea. It just came across as silly. It's why I hated the Ken W character. He had way too much knowledge about these creatures... And what was it with calling Godzilla an Alfa Predator?? He did not eat the Mutos... So he really was not a Predator.
This film really lacked what the old Godzilla films had... That was "ANGRY" monsters destroying a city. Not animals that were just too big and trying to survive. The Military goes after Godzilla in the old films he would take them out with his atomic breath.
For a film that took itself as seriously as it did, it just did not mix with the Monsters themselves that well. Deadly serious film with Lovable Giant reptile in the middle of it all.
This had to be the worst case of false advertisement I have ever seen for a film. The trailers showed us a deadly serious film about a monster that was going to "send us back to the stone age" that Monster would be Godzilla and the film Stared Brian C. Hell even the Godzilla shots were done differently so we would think it was just Godzilla and not Godzilla the savior vs the Mutos.
Had Godzilla been more Godzilla like and not take any **** from anybody then I would have been happier.
I had no problem with the creatures screen time... I just did not like the way the creatures were ultimately portrayed.
But my Kids Loved it and that helped. This could be a film I enjoy a little more down the road now that I know what to expect. As for now... It was a great looking film with a plot that missed the mark.
