Though he's played military guys and an MMA fighter, I think Edgerton is too serene. His flying off the handle would seem awkward and unrealistic. Hardy would be a better choice.
I don't know much about either, but the Dr. Doom guy doesn't seem like a great fit to my eyes. The first X-character I think of when I see him is Mesmero for some reason
I think he could also be a good Wolvie. I havent seen much of his work though. I did see him in some scenes from an episode of Vikings. Idk just by looking at his face and remembering some of the scenes i saw from an episode of Vikings, I can see him tranform into the Wolverine. He's only 5ft 11in. I think he would be one of few tall actors I would not mind seeing as Wolverine. I have to mention James Purefoy( Hugh's doppelganger). He is older than Jackman. 4 years older i think.

That's true, I think Edgerton has it in him but I've never seen him play a character with the kind of intensity that Wolverine requires, so until I see that I'll leave his name out of the hat.
I don't know, to me the acting is the most important part, otherwise Jason Statham with an X2 wig might just be the perfect pick if you really care about the look.
Besides just based real world looks, no way does this guy look anything like Wolverine without movie magic
I
I really think the acting and voice are the most important parts. Not the height which everyone seems to be focusing on.
He comes off as crazy but not badass. Also don't think he has the rough look or the voice for Wolverine. He's one of the actors looks younger than he probably really is.
How about a totally left-field choice? Okay, this is gonna be crazy, and I know nobody thought about it, but...
Howz about Tom Hardy?
Kidding aside, Karl Urban would do a good job, or even Iwan Rheon. But if you wanna go totally left field, how about Zach McGowan? He's a bit on the tall side (1.83 m), but just look at his Charles Vane over at Black Sails. He'd nail Wolverine. And he's not a conventionally beautiful pretty boy, so there's another plus.

Good point. If all I knew Jackman from was Les Miserables and his hosting the Tony Awards or whatever, he wouldn't seem appropriate at all. Others felt that way about Ledger as Joker. I thought he would do a good job personally, but could see from their perspective. So, you never really know.
The actor is important but I feel there is another critical component that is being neglected in these discussions.
Wolverine's body movement during combat.
No matter which actor you get their berserker rage will still have human qualities therefore it will look the same as Jackman's which is slow and lumbering.
Arms will still look like arms, swinging away...just like Jackman.
There needs to be a change in that.
I want to see the live version of the Capcom videogames.
I don't know, explain it that when he goes into rage mode his mutant powers give him super speed.
He needs to almost be a blur during his berserker rage scenes so that they stand out as something unique to his character instead of just a guy who can swing knives around like any person holding a kitchen knife can do.
He needs to be more than just pturtle holding a knife yelling like a mad man.
He needs to be a super (fast) weapon.
Or else no matter the actor....it will be "oh look he's swinging his blades around just like Jackman"....yawn.
Also make him a special attack character, no more the primary focus.
He should be a combo of Billy from Predator, the sniffing barbarian (Franco Columbu) from Conan the Barbarian and the shape from Halloween 1.
Well, CGI could help with that, but you can't get:
A) A good actor.
B) A short actor.
C) A stocky actor.
D) A gruff actor.
E) An actor that's fast as hell when going berserker.
You have to compromise at some point. The X-Men Anime had a pretty cool berserker rage scene:
If FOX decides to reboot, a relative unknown for Wolverine would be ideal, I think. The character is well known enough that a B-Lister could surely work. Sure, they could go with Hardy, and I'd love that, but as since I'm binging Black Sails, Zach McGowan who plays Captain Vane, has become my second/unknown choice.
He's got the gruffed look, the whole "attractive, but in a gruff sort of way" thing going on, and is actually a damn good actor. Black Sails was his first big role, and apart from a small part in Agents of SHIELD as the Watchdogs' leader, he doesn't have much lined up. He deserves to be a bigger star, and Wolverine would be perfect. Back in the day, stars were made through action flicks. Now, CBMs are these launching pads.
I mean, look at these and tell me you don't see Wolverine there:
He also ain't afraid to go full nude for that R-Rating:
To be fair, most of the recurring actors in Black Sails deserve bigger roles. They're all bringing their A-Game in every scene.

Captain Vane, from Black Sails. I've been binging it the last few days (midway through S3, with the current one, S4, being the last), and all I could think of was "that's Logan". I went in expecting a fairly average pirate show, but it's quickly become one of my favourites in general. I'd definitely recommend it. And BTW, Toby Stephens (Dame Maggie Smith's son) AKA Captain Flint would make a mean Xavier or Magneto. The guy who plays Jack Rakham could bulk up a bit and he'd be a damn great Gambit or Fantomex.
PS: Jon Hamm for Tony Stark. I don't care if it has nothing to do with the thread. This is the fancast that I'll campaign for until he turns 80.

Anyway, I like the cinematic Magneto, but like Wolverine, I want the Magneto from certain comics. You know, the guy who creates impenetrable magnetic shields and who looks super evil at times with the helmet on.

You'll never get super-villain Mags from FOX and honestly, that's for the best. I ain't got any interest in Millar's "George Bush is licking my boot" Magneto, or Morrison's Xorneto mess. A combination between Claremont's & Bunn's Magneto would be ideal. Plus, his NOW! look is great:
And like I said, Stephens is a Shakesperean actor and comes from Acting Royalty, so he'd be a mean "proper" Magneto. To get the best version, you need someone who's old enough to pass as a senior, but someone also fit enough to be, well, Magneto. FOX just needs to reboot and be done with it. Keep Deadpool as part of the new continuity and get rid of the rest.
