I agree with you in terms of the setup for these big crossover films. But money talks, so. . .not gonna change, probably. But for the purpose of making better, more interesting films, I would love to see them scale these things back. In fairness to Marvel, though, they do give us quite a bit of variety. Pure action, war stuff, comedy, freaky supernatural stuff. What they haven't really done is something approaching horror, which could be really interesting. And Marvel had a fair amount of horror stuff in the '70s with Werewolf by Night, Tomb of Dracula, Son of Satan, etc.

Luke Cage certainly embraced a lot of what made the '70s comics distinctive, albeit in a modernized kind of way. I would like to see a Netflix Blade series that interacts with those others.

Yes and what makes it even sillier for the X-Men fans with a chip on their shoulder is that they've *got* good movies they can enjoy. Civil War didn't float your boat? Okay, so go watch First Class, DOFP, or X2 or whatever. I fail to see a problem here.

But no, the MCU apparently has "too much" success, and that doesn't sit well with some. The only comic fans who have a Constitutional right to be upset are Fantastic Four fans. Three movies and nothing but ****.

Why does it seem like we have a chip on our shoulders? I'm not in MCU threads bashing those movies, I'm in FoX-Men threads boasting about how good I think these movies are. I see Apocalypse getting crapped on left and right on these forums (which I agree with) yet I don't ever pull out the "hater" card. I had no problem enjoying Iron Man, GOTG and sort of TWS.

Most of the Marvel movies are very well made, solidly entertaining films. It seems like many of those who complain about them have a chip on their shoulder over the films success versus the lack of success of their prefferred comic universe.

Don't understand how Marvel's success has anything at all to do with DC's success. Why do some of you act like you have a Horse in the race and some make believe characters success intrudes upon some other make believe characters success?

It reminds me of the juvenile war between those who hate one gaming console over another. Personally, I own em all and enjoy thm all. I feel the same way bout the Super hero movies.

That's just your opinion though, I find most of the movies to be filler entertainment until the Avengers spectacle comes.

I already said what Marvel is doing is incredible, the world building and consistency is amazing considering how many movies in they are, but I also think it's been a bit detrimental to the overall quality of most their films. The only thing that bothers me now, is that other studios see their success, and are copying them. It's already started at Fox, DC and Universal and so far I'm not happy with the results.

Then again, there aren't many Thor fans around to discern, nor you can seriously tell me you think they are very well made as stand alone works. People only tolerate and eat those because they're part of the MCU.

I mean, I do appreciate TWS/CW and IM, even Avengers as legitimately great movies in their own right, I don't agree with SKNIT and pturtle on these past posts, but this status of "great" that permeates down to the rest of the very consistently mediocre movies is truly undeserved.

I will praise Marvel for having possibly the best organizational culture practices in movie making planning, not for creativity or artistry, they can sure plan the hell out of a movie universe.

Now if it was a Netflix DC Universe, I would trade the Snyderverse and the CW-verse for THAT.

If I'm honest, Logan is the only superhero film coming out that I'm exciting about, and that can change as soon as the first trailer drops. I get more excited these days at the response of these films on the internet than I do going to watching them

Yup. I didn't use to, but I rewatched like a month ago, I noticed some legitimately fantastic cinematography that made me say "Whedon really did THAT?" that I hadn't noticed before, it's still not my cup of tea on style choices, like some of the dialogue, but it's Whedon after all.

Yet I can acknowledge there's some good stuff there that's nowhere to be seen in AoU or any of his other works, like that dude was just a big one-off.

For instance, the argument scene, quips and one liners aside, that's great dialogue AND, when the camera rotates around Loki's staff and shows the Avengers upside down, to represent they're under Loki's influence... that was great, there are more moments like those of legitimately good camera work that made me change my mind.



Maybe not great great, but definitely well above most of the MCU.

Black Widow, and Iron Man are the only characters that he really put any emphasis on in his movies. Well Hulk too in the first movie, but Whedon ruined him in AOU.

Cinematography is really where most superhero films (especially those by Snyder and Singer) shine over most of the MCU. Now the Russos were very deliberate with having their DP give TWS an unstylized naturalistic look that pays homage to street level thrillers of the 70's so I see why some people were unimpressed (but go back and look at The French Connection or Three Days of the Condor, very little "style" compared to what we're used to today) but Whedon took it a step too far in the first Avengers flick because most of the movie does seem a bit sit-comish in appearance.

Randomly enough The Avengers and the first Thor are the only MCU films I've never seen in 3D. After Avatar I got all snobby and refused to see any post-converted 3D films with Cap:TFA being the only exception until Gravity. That movie made me realize just how good post-converted could be.
