Hey, just said it could. This is a ending that is not cut and dry.

Another take is everything on the island happened. The sideways was their purgatory for them to move on.

I think your latter take is closer to how I feel about the finale. But I agree. Nothing is cut and dried. So much to digest.

Is the complete series out on bluray yet? :lol

Why is it that so many people on various boards feel a need to point out thier athiesm/agnosticism and how becuase of it, thier enjoyment of the finale was affected?

Who cares? You dont believe in an afterlife. Why does anyone care if a show features it?

I don't believe that time travel is possible, but I can enjoy Back to the Future without going online and telling people how I was personally offended by a fictional portrayal of it.

Becasue a lot of peole hate or refuse to believe in God and anything that even resembles an afterlife then must relate to God and therefore sucks. I feel for those people.

You sir are correct. They did not die on the flight. What happened on the island was real. They all died at different times and then met back up at the end. The coffin was empty ( IMO ) because it was for all of them that were ready to move on.

I like your explanation KitFisto. My wife is watching now off of our DVR since she missed the first airing of it when I saw it. I'll pay attention to what Christian says at the end at the church. I agree after seeing all of the different religious symbols in the church in stained-glass, and the fact that they are all there as they appeared during their time on the island, that the church was a meeting point for them to see each other before moving on.

I am a Christian myself, and I DO believe in the afterlife. But I do not believe in purgatory. But I can still enjoy a great TV series like this one that shows a purgatory "pit stop" at the church for the cast. I do not take any personal offense to it at all. I can see how the island experience would be the biggest part of their lives. After what each character had went through on the island.

I cried a lot, but no tears from the moment Christian appeared on.

Man that is where I totally lost it. (no pun intended etc....)

Why did that in particular get you?

Do you believe in purgatory?

The ending (from Christian Shepherd on) is so far from my personal beliefs, that I was really distracted.

as I think about it though, I have a hunch that the ending is not in keeping with the writers beliefs either. I think we are not meant to be moves by what literally happened as much as by what the ending represents.

I think the point is that what matters in life is the relationships we form.

When I do the re-watch, I will try to focus on that aspect of the show more.

Oh yeah, I'm not gonna watch JK until tomorrow either.

The one issue I have with the end is how many characters were left out of the church. forgive the spelling.... Dogen , charlotte, fairiday, Anna lucia, echo, nd others that died. Where were they? Ben waited outside as he was not ready to move on. I guess to them the island wasn't the most important in their lives?? With some I just don't agree or understand especially since some like Anna Lucia...Fairiday appeard in their afterlife...or maybe I just missed them and didn't notice them at ther very end at the church.

They weren't ready yet. Desmond said that about Anna Lucia when she showed up. Daniel wasn't ready yet either. He was enjoying the life he should have had.

Ahhhh, yeah I remember Desmond saying that. But was Desmond there? I don't remember seeing him. I DVR'ed this and will watch again tomorrow.

Totally have mixed feelings for the LOST finale. Felt forced, drawn out and ultimately "been there, seen that." Liked some moments. Overall, this ending felt like they had run out of interesting ideas and just went with a Capra-esque, "It's A Wonderful Life" ending. Interesting view of the afterlife and nothing wrong with that. Just felt that it was nothing mysterious...and this series was supposed to be all about mystery. Cuse and Lindeloff denied that the show was about purgatory over and over. And yet, that is so much with what we're left with. I don't know. Overall, this series will remain as one of the greatest science fiction/fantasy series of all time. It's been damn fun. Hell, it was exciting getting Lost...

Well the annoying thing is that Battlestar galactica also took a religious route if memory serves to 'explain' some of its mysteries? I could be wrong, I only watched it once and I haven't seen the Lost Finale yet.

For atheists and agnostics it just woulda been nice if these shows didn't rely on 'god done it' in the place of coming up with actual answers. We consider it a bit of a cop out on the part of the writers. I wouldn't call it 'taking offence'. I may not even be speaking for myself on this matter because having not yet seen the finale I may enjoy it even if it does go heavy on the religious overtones. I've always enjoyed this show.

Yes, Desmond was there with Penny. But besides the Kwons, it was like Heaven is only full of white people, you know what I mean. Where was Michael, Walt, Matthew Abbadon, Mr. Eko, etc... Rose was there with Bernard but still... A little too lily white for me...

If you don't like the purgatory stuff, then disregard the flash sideways. The entire rest of the series was still phenomenal!

Loved the finale! It'll have to sink in over a few days and I'll have to have my little discussions at work though.

Gotta admit, broke down 3 times. Claire and Charlie got me, Sawyer and Juliet got me, and Vincent laying next to Jack REALLY got me.

Michael was stuck on the island, he became a whisper.

Walt, went on and the island wasnt the best part of his life.

Eko, again the island wasnt the best part of his life.

rose and bernard were in the church i believe.

I liked that Vincent came to keep Jack company, but it was the other 2 you mentioned that really got me.

Yeah, Sawyer and Juliet going to get coffee. That was my breaking point. Charlie and Claire too. Whichever one was first :lol

What exactly was Desmond thinking would happen when he pulled the cork from th light hole? He said something about going back?
