Papelbon!
He's a good closer, but that was a pretty big overpayment, IMHO. The Philly media will love him. He's always ready to give a soundbite.

Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos kidnapped in Venezuela.
This is really sad to see. The reason the Twins traded Ramos for Matt Capps was that we had just signed Joe Mauer to a 8-year $184 million dollar contract and we needed a closer after Joe Nathan had Tommy John surgery.

horrible.
Still better than that home run feature in their park.

What is it?
Its only 5 teams per league. Winning the division essentially means a 1st round bye, so its going to be more important than it used to be.
I like it.
The years with the 1 game play in are always exciting, now we get at least 2 of those every year. Win.
it's not really a 1st round bye since the 1st round consists of 1 game between the 2 wild card spots. they are trying to manufacture excitement instead of just letting it happen and it's going to blow up in their faces. what about the game 1 pitching matchups? if detroit has to use verlander to get past their play in game it's going to cost us a sweet verlander/sabathia face off for example.
also, you just know everyone is going to love this scenario...let's say the yankees win the east by 4 games over the red sox and 6 games over the rays. well if the rays and red sox have the 2 next best records, they have to play 1 more game for a playoff spot even though the red sox beat them in the division? you can't manufacture excitement like we had this season so stop trying...just let it happen, bud
i have never seen a neck and neck race for the division where one team just concedes with a week left and settles for the wild card. the goal always has been and always will be to win the division.
Old school. Hopefully they stick with them instead of changing every 3 years like they have recently.
Remember these when they ripped off the Rangers?

Justin Verlander adds MVP to his Cy Young award.
Wow, the BWAA got it right giving it to a pitcher unlike 1999.
