Re: The Man of Steel

Ironic that Birthright was the basis for Goyer's script especially since Birthright was rumored for the reboot back when it was first announced and some claim that it was being done even before Singer was booted. Birthright works because it encapulates so much of Smallville that will touch on the character and would have worked better if Smallville was in season 8.

As of right now, the studios need to understand that people are up to their necks in origins and that with Superman a quick refresher is all that is necessary.

Re: The Man of Steel

I hope we see Kal-El for 55% to 60% of the film because that is who Superman is, and Clark Kent is his alter ego. With other superheroes like Ironman, Batman, Spiderman, these are their alter egos and are only shown 15% to 20% of the time.

Re: The Man of Steel

The thing is as far as Kal-El is concerned he yearns to be Clark Kent so he is that persona as much as possible. Until he comes of age to discover his powers classically he always refers to himself as Clark Kent. I have a feeling that if this follows the Birthright I would imagine you'll see 60% Clark Kent since its a discovery story.

Seems like a good place for some of my favorite dialogue from KB v2...

Re: The Man of Steel

That's actually the modern interpretation of the character. Since the Modern Age, Superman and Batman have always been the Ying-Yang of the DC world. Bruce yearns to leave the Wayne life behind and be just Batman so he can achieve his goals while Clark yearns to be able to leave his Superman life behind and be "normal". There are more juxapositions but that has been the way the characters in the comics have been perceived since the late 80s.

I wouldnt go to far with that.
Thats more of a Smallville vibe thats been put out...
When most people think of Clark Kent they think repressed fumbler, bumbler yearning to pull that shirt open and leap skyward.
When he's Superman he's at his most poised and confident.
He may like the anonymity and down time that comes from being Clark but the Superman I grew up with relishes his powers and isnt so "schizophrenic".

PS:Keep Williams theme Nolan.

Wake me up when someone adapts Alan Moore's Superman stories into a Hollywood movie.

They think that because of the Christopher Reeve films. I always really enjoyed George Reeves' portrayal of Clark. He wasn't Superman pretending to Clark, his Clark was a real person. He only put on the suit when he needed to help someone. Superman was the disguise.

Re: The Man of Steel

love the debate..

anyway I think that Superman/Kal-El is who he really is, and Clark is who aspires to be, who his (earth) parents raised him to be. while others look up to the sky and see this God like titan, he yearns to be one of us. He is human in spirit but yet knows he can never be truly one of us. that's where the great drama of his life is. He has to be the world's greatest and most powerful defender, but would give it up to just be human, but he knows he can't because we need to him be the hero.

i agree with tarantino's view so far as it says that Superman is the real person and Clark is the disguise, but I don't see Clark as a critique on humanity, I see it as Kal trying his best to be humble.

Re: The Man of Steel

Good. Give me Brainiac and some shots of Krypton that doesn't look like the inside of my freezer!

Re: The Man of Steel

if that's the case that's great, Zod is a great character but they need to move past all ties with the Reeves movies. They need to set their own standard. Like Nolan did with Batman. what has come before is great, but now it's time to look past that.

we should get an epic fight scene kind of like this
