With the info we have on people today its very easy to know the background, circle of friends, where you have been traveling to and from all the time and many, many other things. It's easy to profile and scan or search those that need to be and leave those alone that need to be left alone other than standard security that we've had for years.

You know damn well that has merritt and what that would turn into. I find it interesting that some who talk about America and how it's FREE would aggree to such nonesense. I guess you can only be free in America if it suits the politcal agenda of your own design. Personally I like that we have all different people living in the US. Everyone should be treated equally regardless of their skin tone or where they come from. Profiling to me is far worse than an scanner and does nothing but further lower the progress of society as a whole.

These things happen everyday. I would reckon you also have a better chance of winning the Powerball (which is one in several million), since we get winners every few weeks or so, but terrorists blow planes up pretty infrequently.

A better question might be, not how likely are terrorists to blow up a plane. But how likely are terrorists to blow up a plane if we didn't have existing safeguards in place, and how much less likely are they to blow up a plane with additional safeguards in place? Rumsfeld would call these the "known unknowns." Solution? Authoritarian police state.

Statistically your chance of getting struck by lightning is slim to none. However, you don't see people standing out in it. A lot of people that are killed in car accidents are not wearing seatbelts. People who get killed by bees are usually alergic and don't know that before it's too late.

My point is you don't go outside and play in lightning, you wear your seatbelt, and have medicine on you in case of sting. All things are safety measures that are utilized to help mitigate risk.

Same can be said for the scanners.

Hell its illegal in most places to not wear your seatbelt. I'd be more pissed about that. Who is the government to tell you how you should use that important safety device?

You know I work for a Telco company. I had an order recently where my customer had pics or himself posing with Araphat a few years ago. I'd say that should be profile as opposed to a 5 year old kid from Nebraska.

Like I said. This is just a small step in the process of getting people used to the loss of personal freedoms and personal privacy so that slowly, but surely by the time you really see how much control the government has over your say to day life it will be to late to do anything about it.

I guess I still don't see how the TSA is invading anyones privacy? They didn't invite anyone to the airport and force them to fly. The masses however tomorrow will "invade" the airports tomorrow and it's up to the TSA to do their best to insure their safety. No small task. Also remember, these "customers" decided they would prefer to be patted down. So they asked for it.

If you don't understand how thorough frisking and/or under-the-clothing body scanning is an invasion of privacy, I don't know what to tell you.

I don't think this is necessarily a legal or Constitutional issue. Passengers are there voluntarily, pre-flight searches are reasonable (though whether these particular types of searches are legally reasonable remains to be seen), and the search policy is universal and non-descriminatory.

That being said, even if it is not a legal invasion of privacy ... it is an invasion of privacy, and an overstep of authority. They might be legally able to require these searches. They still shouldn't. There is likely a better way.

A little late to the game, but...I think the scanning is ridiculous. No one has the permission to see me nude unless I give them permission. Except, when I'm going through security at an airport, I now have no right to say that. Screw this. The TSA is power tripping and someone needs to put them back in their place. I saw where they can now fine you up to $11,000 for refusing the scan and/or have you arrested. Really? Someone needs to get rid of these goons. Their methods are neither effective or appropriate. Additionally, 4 out of 5 Americans are said to be okay with the scanners. How disheartening.

No thanks to the TSA. The few attempts that were made (shoe bomber, underwear bomber) were thwarted due to alert passengers and ineffective explosive devices, nothing to do with the TSA.
