Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

As The Hollywood Reporter said, its all very "quid pro quo" with no money changing hands.
In other words, each studio gets the added benefits of having their characters appears in the other franchises.

That's what Marvel and Fox should do with Wolverine. Let Jackman appear in one MCU film. Have Iron Man appear in an X-Men film. No money changes hands, just a mutual sharing of characters for a fun one-off.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Let Jackman finish off his Wolverine movies and then hire someone else to play him. I'd rather they use someone else in the Marvel movies than Jackman.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

I don't see that happening.

Spidey was a push.

Marvels canning FF and X-Men comics and merch to try to kill Fox. I don't see that leading to a friendly deal.

I agree. There does seem to be true bad blood between Marvel and Fox. I'm just saying I wish they could get past that crap and do a "hero" exchange.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

I know Lerman has his supporters but for me I'm still in the Dylan O' Brien camp. Some of this quotes sound like they could come from Spidey himself:

I don't know either of these kids but Lerman looks more like Parker, yea.

It appears like it's one person over there who has it out for Fox.

The Fantastic Four, meanwhile, might just get killed off for making money for the wrong company. Marvel Chief Executive Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter -- portrayed by The Hollywood Reporter early this summer as the media equivalent of a miserly millionaire who dresses in rags and subsists on stale packets of oatmeal -- apparently was so enraged about Fox rebooting the Fantastic Four film franchise that he's killed all licensing and merchandising for the title. As Bleeding Cool reported, workers in Marvel's offices “pulled down lest Perlmutter see one and have his ire raised.”

While it's probably an oversimplification, with this guy still walking around it's going to be a tough move to be "friendly"

This particular article is from last year:
Marvel Superhero Battle Pits Disney Against Fox and Sony

but the portions about Fox and Perlmutter have begun making the rounds again now that Disney and Sony are playing nice together. He apparently is still pissed about Fantastic Four.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Any speculation as to why the FF reboot enraged him? X:FC was a reboot of sorts, why the ire over Fox doing the same with FF?

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

I'm guessing because if they hadn't, the rights would have reverted.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

The FF was dead in the water. Like Daredevil it was expected to expire and revert. There were big plans to reboot the FF over at Marvel Studios that haven't come to pass. Even if the newest film tanks, the rights are secured still. Marvel and Disney has openly said their plan is to try and get ALL of their characters back and have had lawyers looking for loopholes since Disney bought the company. I'm sure the expectation was that they'd get them back and now that they aren't it's sour grapes.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Ah, Marvel was so close to getting the FF that Ike could taste it and then at the last second Fox locked them down for however many years on end.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

Pretty much. As long as a film is in development and gets out in a certain timeframe it's pretty much locked in forever. That's why the last Daredevil movie and the new TV show have such a long lapse in time. DD was in development hell for a long time until they finally just canned it. It didn't look like this FF film was actually going to happen. Even all the rumors coming off set that Fox was disappointed it lead to rumors that the film itself would be canned, I'm sure good ol' Ike was buying the banners and streamers to help welcome them back when it finally just took off. Now Marvel/Disney is in a wait and see because if the film does well then Fox will milk the hell out of it. If it does poorly then I'm sure they still won't give it back without a long period of time.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

The Marvel-Sony deal was probably easier than you thought.

I said it before, but one of Spidey's main producers...Avi Arad, he is good friends with current Marvel CEO Isaac Perlmutter. They both owned Toy Biz together and became controlling stakeholders of Marvel in wake of the 1996 bankruptcy. Arad was one of the founding members of Marvel Studios (and its original president) until he later resigned from Marvel to form his own production company though he still produced Marvel projects and reputedly still has a great relationship with Marvel. He continued to produce Spidey for Sony throughout ALL the movies.

I'm sure Arad's producer position and Marvel connections/experience helped facilitate a lot of the contact and meetings between Marvel/Disney and Sony to agree to this deal. He's the "link" between Marvel and Sony that has kept the companies on friendly terms unlike Marvel and Fox.

Um, lots of false facts here buddy. Avi left Marvel Studios on bad terms with Ike over David Maisel. Avi also wants nothing to do with Fiege's Marvel Studios. He was a guest speaker at my school about a year ago and it was pretty clear that Marvel Studio's success left him a sour taste.

Marvel still worked closely with Sony as creative consultants on their Spider-Man films, and both parties were in close contact while negotiating a buy-out for the Spidey rights that eventually led to this deal. So no, Arad was most definitely not the glue that brought both sides together.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

What brought both sides together is Amy Pascal's colossal shaming over the leaks at Sony. She NEEDS this thing to be a successful to make people forget. She has said over and over that she'd never give up Spider-Man because those films were her legacy, combine the last film doing poorly to Marvel Studios doing fantastically and the fact that all people talk about her lately is how screwed up the Sony situations is and they'd happily come back to terms with Marvel. The Spider-Man deal was dead in the water before the leak and then all of sudden after it they play nice and come to an accord. She leans so much on Spider-Man when talking about her personal career that for that franchise to crumble and everything else it'd be a black stain. This way if Marvel Studios Spider-Man does well it's a feather in her cap for making it happen.

Re: OFFICIAL: Marvel Studios Spider-Man

I can't believe that James Franco, Seth Rogen, and Kim Jong Un himself (or at least cyber-terrorists loyal to him) really might have had a hand in this deal coming to pass. So bizarre.
