It's embarrassing, that an unknown (to the mainstream) C-list character from Marvel, beat the DC icons. Now, BP is another C-list MCU character that's been elevated to pop culture icon and maybe the most famous black movie hero ever.

I mean really, no other franchise has a lead black hero character with this type of status in pop culture. Not, DC, SW, STrek, LOTR, HPotter, Alien, FastFurious, Transformers, James Bond, etc...

Black Panther is far from a watershed moment in history, but it does break the myth that movies with a predominantly black cast can't make money. Marvel and Coogler took an obscure hero and told a story that made more money in a week than DC's Justice League's entire run. So in a way it is special.

I will always think of the BO for this film as muddled tho. In the sense like WW people turned out first weekend to make a statement and the critics went into hype overload which in turn fueled the BO first weekend. IMO it was a Disney marketing masterpiece tho I'd be interested to know if Disney suspected things would blow up into Time magazine articles and all.:horror

It's like I trust the second weekend numbers more. Or at least comments from actual viewers.

Re the myth that people wouldn't turn out for a black or other superhero I guess I don't get that. Especially in this case where the comic character is, in fact, black and from Africa. For me the African/Wakanda setting is a huge plus for me. As far as directing goes tho it still sounds like Coogler wasn't completely comfortable executing a comic book movie as compared to the other MCU directors from what I have read.

*Shrug* Coogler is a young director and am sure he learned a lot. Wrongly or rightly re BO the film is a stunning success regarded by many (excluding hype and extreme negative comments) as a good movie. Which is better than Suicide Squad that made a fortune but seems to get heavily panned all around.

Black Panther is an ensemble movie that spotlights just about the whole cast instead of only its title character. Look at Blade. The. Set moments always starts with "remember when Blade did . . " the same goes true for Steel, and Hancock, mother vies like Meteor Man and Handyman are just dumb comedies that are made because no one would take the idea of Black superhero seriously. Coogler took the black superhero and made him a group movie about what a society can become when they work together. It's a society of people that has long been know for being rowdy hoodlums and angry outspoken violent lower intelligence people. Black Panther shows them in an exact opposite of the stereotypes and stigmas. And it is refreshing, and long over due.

It just might. Who would have thought it might be Aquaman that saves DC movies.

Women has spoken for WW. Minorities for PB. And now the fish get their time with Aquaman.

The thought of fish and sharks lining up in droves to see Aqauman when it releases is hilarious and adorable at the same time. :lol

But that's the beauty of Civil War it stays true to its comic book roots. Look at comics like Civil War, Avengers vs X-men, Contest of Champions and Crisis on Infinte Earths. They bring these characters together for a reason, but because these characters come together it does not mean the problems they had before they assemble disappear and that things do change after it. Before Civil War Peter was just a kid in suit helping people. After Civil War he got an upgrade and entered a much larger world.the problems between Steve and Tony that were there in AOU just exacerbated and blew up in Civil War. Black Panthers whole world changed in Civil War so that was important to explore too. You may not think so, but I think Civil War set things up nicely.

CW is written for kids. For an adult to enjoy CW you literally have to turn off your brain. I don't like paying for mindless entertainment so the notion of the studio aiming the film at such a demographic was both infuriating and depressing.

BP is aimed at everyone. There's a real story with real heart driving the film. CW is heartless, uninspired, safe corporately-driven summer fare.

Basically CW is the opposite of BP.

My turtle is rubbing his hands in waiting for aquaman. Heard there’s gonna be a huge show out of aquatic life for this movie. I predict a red lobster shut down after that movie delivers its powerful message.

Gold fish and sharks living together! Mass hysteria!

I'm almost willing to bet that Aquaman will be more fun than Ant-Man and the Wasp... almost.

WTF is Aquaman's power in the DCEU? :lol

It seems to me that if the film doesn't take place underwater, he's just some strong dude. That's...kind of boring.

well in the movie he controlled water, he can fly, he talks to fish, hes super fast,

basically same as wonder woman but talks to fis =h

Aquaman will straighten everything out for DC.

:D

Might be true:lol- unless the critics pile on and trash it- ahead of time, got a feeling it will get bad reviews in any case.

Dc's future rests on The Batman film
