Is it possible to be amicably disappointed by a movie? So many good actors doing good work, and IMO a decent comic-booky exploration of the isolationist theme. But man it’s more derivative than The Lion King (and kinda cribs from that, too).
Also the only thing that looked real was the actors’ faces. Between the obvious cgi and terrible green screening...talk about having a “TV” look...

Hard not to enjoy that cast though, aside from the lead who seems to have completely lost his edge since CW. I guess the good news is now that it’s a finacial success the next one might get more resources. Too bad the only two characters that got killed gave highlight performances. Maybe they jammed those metal senzu beans in them? Vibranium can do anything apparently.

Great idea and characters that deserve better execution.

CW was garbage compared to this movie.

SNIKT after watching Black Panther once:

I once saw a documentary about the process behind this. Pretty darn brutal. The kids go through it around 12 or so. Well, at least it beats that other ritual where they have to ****-**** another guy.

No clue if It's true but was reading somewhere that all those scars on Killmonger's body represent the amount of people he's killed.

Yep, each bump represent a life taken by him. Funny enough, DC came up with this idea first when they created Victor Zsasz.

Yeah but who put it in a movie first? That's the problem with DC all of these great characters that could have made some great movies doing nothing. The worst part is the fact that they are owned by a company that is primarily known for making movies. What a waste!

I agree that CW is no masterpiece but neither is this film. I mean to call CW garbage in comparison seems a bit over the top.

Perhaps a 2nd viewing on blu ray will improve the film for me.

My main issue with CW is that, much like BvS, it tried way too hard to be too many things in one film, including but not limited to:

A Winter Soldier sequel
An Age of Ultron sequel
A Black Panther teaser
A Homecoming teaser
An Infinity War teaser

When that much stuff gets thrown into a film and is executed in a sloppy, tedious manner, it's just not for me, LOL.

But that's the beauty of Civil War it stays true to its comic book roots. Look at comics like Civil War, Avengers vs X-men, Contest of Champions and Crisis on Infinte Earths. They bring these characters together for a reason, but because these characters come together it does not mean the problems they had before they assemble disappear and that things do change after it. Before Civil War Peter was just a kid in suit helping people. After Civil War he got an upgrade and entered a much larger world.the problems between Steve and Tony that were there in AOU just exacerbated and blew up in Civil War. Black Panthers whole world changed in Civil War so that was important to explore too. You may not think so, but I think Civil War set things up nicely.

I don't see that. TWS and CW are my favorite MCU films. Of those I don't put one over the other as the dynamics are different. But for me if there are comic book movies for the ages, these are permanent fixtures on the shelf. I'm ecstatic the Russos are the IW directors. Love their aesthetic and pacing; they make room for quiet moments but keep things moving along. I already think IW 1 and 2 will be staggeringly good.

Was reading IMDB comments yesterday re BP. I know early on supposedly people were giving BP negative reviews without seeing it. But the comments were interesting. Unfortunately a number said pretty much what I was thinking. So this will be the first MCU movie I pass on in theater, still.

To be fair there are a lot of ecstatic comments too. I ignore any that go on about the social political PC stuff. Never sat through any movie thinking "Wow, I am part of a watershed moment in human history sitting here with my souvenir popcorn bucket!"

I might for IW tho.:monkey3

Black Panther is far from a watershed moment in history, but it does break the myth that movies with a predominantly black cast can't make money. Marvel and Coogler took an obscure hero and told a story that made more money in a week than DC's Justice League's entire run. So in a way it is special.

Black Panther has already made $100 million more than JL on its second week.... ($700 + mill)

I liked JL but that is a wake up call...........DC is going to have to realize that Marvel magic isn't with them and just sit and wait for one of their future films to be a big hit...but what and when will it be?

I'm basically a casual fan and wouldn't know how loyal the film was/wasn't to its comic roots. I can only call it as I see it.

At this point DC needs to restructure everything! Start off small one film at a time like Marvel did then maybe team up once in a while. You can't rush a cinematic universe.
