It was alright, reminded me of watching an episode of the Cosby show...with one goofy white dude lol

In all seriousness, would have liked some more BP action, the car scene was almost the same as civil war

OK, here are my full thoughts:

Much like GotG1, this movie felt like something fresh and new that we haven't seen before, and felt like the people behind it were actually concerned with making a good movie rather than another product to add to the lineup like the majority of the last MCU movies. Most of the characters are well used, with T'Challa and Killmonger of course being the two best. I could have gone for more screen time with Killmonger and I do wish we had seen him wear the Black Jaguar suit a little more, but he was very well-developed as a character and puts almost all of Marvel's past villains to shame. I loved all of the Lion King-esque aspects of the story, and unlike Ant-Man and Doctor Strange (mediocre CBMs IMO), the story here wasn't generic and predictable. Most of the visuals were drop-dead gorgeous. The musical score was also great but I do wish that it had been used more here and there. I was also glad that it didn't turn out to be bloated with hip-hop music as the trailers suggested.

But is it perfect? Not quite. If I were forced to complain about a few things, I would say that some parts were a little slow-paced and some characters got lost in the mix at times. Klaue was "meh" at best but did feel relevant to the story. A lot of the CGI for the action sequences looked rather shoddy, but I imagine most of the budget went into Panther and Killmonger's suits (both of which I assume were CGI in most shots and looked fine). I'm sure I could think of a few more gripes given more time, but for now that's all I have.

But unlike the complete misfire of a sequel that was Iron Man 2, the charming albeit mediocre Iron Man 3, the by-the-numbers and forgettable Thor: The Dark World, the overstuffed clone of A1 that was Avengers: Age of Ultron, the generic and bland Ant-Man, the borefest that was Captain America: Civil War, the flat and lifeless Doctor Strange, the unfunny and bloated with CGI Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the fun but still mediocre Spider-Man: Homecoming, and the immensely underwhelming disappointment that was Thor: Ragnarok (even though I've warmed up to that movie a bit), this film is genuinely worthy of the critics' praises.

I'm not sure how it will hold up on repeat viewings for me, but overall I'd give it a solid 8/10.

the pace was alright, it wasnt slow. one of the mistake they did here was rush and crammed up killmonger's last arc. :dunno

come to think of it, qualifications for the title "king" is solely based on lineage, strength and combat skills :dunno

Definitely. And he lost a lot of that initial nuance because of it unfortunately.

I found the last couple acts a little too predictable. Killmonger using claue as a meal ticket, the subsequent waterfall fight, taking shelter in the rival mountain tribe. By the end it just felt like plot sequence box checking.

I did love the afrofuturism, the tone, the acting. All excellent.

Once social pressure subsides, I’m sure they will attack this movie.

That would be silly, as it is a very good movie. But it's not "OMG THE BEST THING EVER" either, which I've seen.

It's a very good Marvel movie, that is a bit unique in some parts, and a bit the same in some parts. The first 1/2 > Last half IMO.

It has flaws, but is good overall.

Great post. I share 99% of your sentiments regarding the MCU's mostly lackluster and mediocre body of work.

I think one of the reasons BP worked so well is that Coogler was able to make a movie about BP - unlike for instance, the Russos with that hot mess that was CW which should have been a Cap film like their brilliant TWS and [criminally] wasn't.

BP's freedom from MCU interconnectivity definitely helped it.

So what can Killmonger’s suit do that Tchalla’s can’t. I want details on the differences between the two suits

I don’t think there was any differences. If I recall correctly, the only reason T’Challa picked the one he did was because it was more stealthy, so Killmonger got the gold one.

great honest review

Perversely LOL this vid just convinced me to get off my *ss and go see this thing. Hilarious. :lol Not because I think the movie is bad or good, but yep, this sounds like the MCU. Which I love in all its *insanity*. Anyway I think it'll be good with some things I just hafta blow off; probably for me on DS level where there's a lot I like but with that film I think the script or something needed some tweaks. For me BP probably won't dethrone (no pun) CW, TWS, IM1, Avengers, Ragnarok, and Guardians 1 and Antman.

The guy makes some points that I would probably pick up on. I figured for me I'd hone in on CGI and visuals. Which never make up for character, performance, story; but anyone I think who does graphic software or photography - it changes the way you look at things. You can't unlearn that. Tho it sounds like Coogler did try even if everything doesn't work *shrug*.

Don't know if I'll make this weekend. Checked my fav theater (small w. reserved seats) and looks like everyone is going to the movies on Monday re the U.S. holiday.
I was hoping to see it in a half-full theater. Ragnarok was a pain in the *ss with an entire Indian family blabbing :slap and grandma shuffling off to the bathroom several times; like a little hooded Jawa crossing in front of me. Although - if I can make this weekend the odds are good the audience will actually know what's going on.

I enjoyed it more than Age of Ultron

Not as good as the Guardians movies

Up there with DR Strange and maybe the first Thor

Not as political as some people are making it out to be

Lack of soundtrack music in film

.... was very slow up until car chase

Great performances by everyone

Just like most other MCU movies with the exception of GuArdians 1&2

I probably wont watch again in theatres

After Infinity War comes out I’ll probably watch them all again back to back starting with the original Iron Man

Kudos to Disney for 10 years of stellar hits

The Rhino cgi was ruff....

Dudes live action Lion King is gonna rock

This film is like Lion King meets Coming to America meets Avatar

It’s THAT good

I get what he is trying to say.. If Black People only make up 15% of the population and only a certain percentage of that demographic go to the film then it would have a poor opening weekend..

Besides.. Whoever is asking for white people to stay home for this movie are complete morons. People saying that are just orally defecating and a waste of Oxygen. But I am sure it makes them feel enlightened and special. :)

LOL! Visually stunning though with some pathos

Still worth a viewing

What kind of works against it (I felt) is continuity wise this film doesn’t feel in place with the release of Infinity War

I’m thinking this film should’ve been released before Dr Strange when the events of Civil War were still fresh

Other than that I’m not sure if any of you are familiar with DBox

But essentially that’s like viewing the film while being on a roller coaster ride

The chairs move and jolt according to the action on screen

It made the viewing much more engaging and fun even though this film was a bit boring at times

Oh no... I am not a very big fan of any of those films :(
IKR? That's like the complete opposite of sayin' it's good. :lol
Not that any of those movies are bad, no. But they're not great or interesting.
So it just sounds like this one is yet another ok blockbuster that you've seen 10000 times.
