I finally saw non-Batman wave 10 figures in the store tonight, and picked up Beast Boy and Power Girl for myself, and a Joker for my nephew. Also took some pics earlier tonight with some of my other DCUC figures :D

Figures certainly worthy of being posed in front of my shrine to Flint.

Samueljd - Can give me info on the stand you used on Manbat?
Thanks.

It's a standard Medicom stand. They're great for flying poses. I have Hawkgirl, Hawkman, and Superman on them too. If you look in the sale section, sometimes people sell them loose.

Just ordered 5 boxes of the stands and another set of CoF, got a savings of 21.00. I want to modify a romat ru into a Sinestro using the DC head and hands and maybe turn the other one to Lyssa Drak, keeper of the Sinestro book. Oooh! Then I'll use those head and hands onto a spare GL figure I have to get a Tomar re. :D

Just a heads up, my Wal-Mart (Houston) had a MASSIVE endcap of these they just set up yesterday, so if any of you haven't seen these yet, check Wal-Mart now. They could've been holding out for Black Friday.

A bit off topic, but all this talk about Sinestro got me interested in figuring out how, exactly, he was still alive. Last I read, Hal Jordan snapped his neck during his transition to madness in the 90s. I just read the explanation on Wikipedia. Comic books are stupid.

The Wiki explanation isn't exactly the way it went down. Parallax which is the entity of the Yellow Light of the Fear and Sinestro were working together. In an attempt to destroy the Green Light. The Guardians freed Sinestro from the battery or so they thought, Parallax and Sinestro both used the construct to see if Jordan would fully allow himself to be corrupted by the Yellow Light fully and take that ultimate step in killing his mentor, after he did Parallax was able to syphon the remaining energy from the Power Battery and Sinestro escaped.

except batman comics :monkey3

Batman comics are some of the zaniest ????ing things on the planet if you really look at them.

There used to be a saying that "nobody dies in comics except for Bucky." Marvel proved that even he can't stay dead.

Yup, Marvel was seriously accused of jumping the shark at that point even ????ing Gwen Stacy came back but at least they've done a good job in keeping Bucky relevant and more than a simple plot device like they've done with other resurrected.

Why pick on Sinestro? The entire Corps died in Emerald Twilight.

99% of the Corps that died in Emerald Twilight is still dead. Jordan kills off all of the Guardians except for Ganthet who creates a special ring for Kyle focused on using the will of those around him to recharge and repower instead of focusing on the Power Battery as its main source. Due to this he is able to constantly and consistently pull energy and power from various people in the universe, as Kyle continues to grow powerful he is able to zap whatever is left from Oa during a mission and there finds the weakened entity of the Green Light of Will named Ion. Its relatable to the "Power Cosmic" from the Marvel Universe. With this power he creates new Guardians and leave them in the care of Ganthet to recreate Oa and the GL Corps. The number of GLs has actually doubled after Emerald Twilight. For the Corps members who were not on Oa during the attack by Jordan had their rings depowered and banded together as Brotherhood of the Cold Flame who tapped into the Bolovax Vik afterlife energy to convert the Soul of Kilowog into the Dark Lantern made of they same energy to come after Jordan who at that time was Spectre. Hal's old power ring was used to rebuild Oa and the Great Battery which allows spirit of Kilowog to rest. Soon after this, though, his spirit was recalled to life by Kyle Rayner and Ganthet using the Ion energies and bringing him back to life. Everyone usually equates the GL Corps with Kilowog so they make the mistake that it was all retcon'd when in actuality many of the heroes that are associated with GL Corps weren't involved with Emerald Twilight except for Kilowog.

Magneto's "died" about 10 times by now. Norman Osbourne died and Marvel still found a way to bring him back too.

Osborn's return is Bob Harras' fault who was the editor in chief at the time. He didn't like Harry Osborn's character. Gaunt, the cyborg from the Clone Saga was a plot device to return Harry to life, as the plan for the character included Harry regaining his humanity, taking credit for tricking Peter Parker into thinking he was a clone, and resuming his identity as the Green Goblin full-time. Harras didn't like Harry so asked the writers to change it to Norman being the mastermind and Mendel Stromm to be Gaunt. Writers have been continuously trying to retcon Norman's revival since then but it was originally not going to happen.

Comics kill off so many characters and none of them are permanent. I'll be the first one to defend comics as a medium, but as far as deaths are concerned, it's a fair bet to say that NONE of them are permanent. Personally I blame Marvel bringing back Jean Grey. I wouldn't go so far as to say they invented the whole 'it wasn't really him/her, it was a clone/copy/etc.' but it's the earliest instance I remember reading in order to retcon or otherwise negate the death of a main character.

I would have to disagree as many of the heroes who have died stay dead, look at the Blackest Night event, it showcases a bunch of heroes and villains who have died and stayed that way (I don't count their rising since they are zombies). The thing about Jean is that the Phoenix Force was a plot device to make her death much more stellar, it was writers who came back and used it as a loophole for return. When that was praised it became a common thing to use those loopholes even temporarily. While you can blame Marvel blame the fans, if they had screamed bloody murder it wouldn't have happened again but they (in terms of numbers and sales) loved it and so it became the norm. Although Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter is most to blame because the real version of the Dark Phoenix Saga had Jean being depowered and alive while Shooter wanted her to "pay for her crimes" setting the whole debacle up.

Comic companies kill off characters to generate sales, realize it was a mistake or cave in to fanboy complaints and bring them back. This is why we won't see Grayson as Batman for long, why Bucky won't be Cap for much longer, and why a certain 90's Main DC hero's replacement will probably be back before the next year is out. It's all business. But before the status quo gets restored we tend to get toys, so there's always that. :D

Yes and No. 90% of character deaths are caused by editors who butt into the creative process in attempts to save their asses. Ironically, all of the editors who have done this don't have their jobs still. Fanboy complaints help change things including editors but the returns are usually done by the new editor and writing staffs who felt it shouldn't have ever occurred in the first place. Its more the comic industry's way to erase the mistakes of the previous administration.

I think the Jean Grey thing is a bit more defensible than most, however. I mean, her being the "Phoenix" and whatnot. Sort of like Ra's Al Ghul. It's his gimmick, so it's a little better than bringing back Bucky or whomever.

Ironically Bucky used a plot device that was used a dozen times in the past, he is so notable because he broke the old saying "No one stays dead except Bucky, Jason Todd and Uncle Ben". 2 out of 3 are back so its only a matter of time until they are all back. As for Jean the Phoenix Force used her as a shell keeping her real body in suspended animation which was the first time she returned but since then most writers like to conjoin them to make the first "death" more meaningful. At least Ra's was always like that.

It's a shame DC is "throwing away" Richards career as Nightwing to have him fill in as Batman. I really liked Nightwing in Bludhaven. I really liked Nightwing outside of Bruce's shadow. I mean that's why he moved to Bludhaven in the first place, to become his own man, to find his own city to defend. To broved to Batman once and for all that he was not Robin anymore. Then DC stiffs him by bringing him back to do what? fill in as Batman even though time and again Richard refused to put on the Batsuit because he realized that only Bruce can be Batman.

They aren't throwing it away but cementing it. Remember that Grayson didn't want to be Batman, he turned in down in Knightfall. He wanted out of Batman's shadow. He was though destined to always fill in Wayne's shoes because he was being trained in that light. Unlike the times before when it was severely temporary it felt right this time around and reading the growing pains that go with it. Its unfortunate timing though since in reality with the popularity of the Batman movies, there was no way in hell he would stay dead for very long. Ironically its one of those times where having a Legacy like The Flash or Green Lantern would help because There are currently three Flashes all using Flash as their name, why? The whole thing is built on legacy with Kid Flash being the Robin and then graduating through the ranks. Each Flash has a different city, they share Rogues and they all have excellent fanfollowings much like the GL Corps. Its the shortsightedness of Batfans who keep doing things like recycling through different people playing Batman instead of having people accept the mantle in their own right.

Let's be honest, one of Batman's most powerful tools is the fact that he is a symbol and a myth, no more than an urban legend. Yet what would cement that more than multiple Batmen wondering around the country in different cities? It'd help hide the identity of Wayne as well. The costumes could be different just like the Flash but still identifiable. Its the fact that writers are definitely scared of doing that because the fear that people won't accept it and closedmindedness of the fans stops them from fully exploring and bringing the character to its full potental. Superman is the Last Son of Krypton (which DC has screwed the pooch on anyway), Batman isn't the Last Son of Gotham or the last man to wear the cowl. Expansion even with Bruce as the figurehead controlling everything makes sense yet they stop it from occurring.

not to mention that he's continuously in a world full of "super-powered" beings which is quite weird considering the natue of the character.I read bat-comics too (since that I am a hopeless bat-fan haha) but I think only some storylines are worth it .. the famous graphic novels..... and also the older Azrael comics written by Dennis Oneil.. those are some good stuff in my opinion ....

How is that weird. It puts the brains over brawn argument in visual form? No matter how powerful people are Wayne finds a way to bring them to his level or lower to win which is the greateest thing about the character.

According to the majority of fans, Brubaker it seems has been doing a great job with Bucky but he'll never be Cap A no matter how good the book is. As soon as Cap was replaced I dropped the book like a brick.

Many modern fans like Bucky more than Steve especially with the way he is being written and the stalemate that Steve was in for years. Who knows what will happen but I guarantee you that he'll be in some sort of Captain America fashion if not Captain America himself. Too bad USAgent is off in Canada or else Bucky would be great taking up that mantle.

Haha. I didn't want to get into the debate any more than I already did, cus it would end up ad naseum, but I gotta say Mike, I dig your style.

Let's agree to disagree and try to 'resurrect' this thread, shall we?

I scored a classic Aquaman off ebay for about thirty bucks. Ol' Orin being one of my grails for the line (along with Nightwing, who I'm glad is getting a WGSH rerelease), I feel it was a fair price. Aquaman, although not one of my favorite characters (I can hear Mattel laughing, as I've bought two of him now!), definitely belongs in any classic Justice League display. The scales and colors of his costume make him pop alongside the other 'primary color' superheroes. I have two minor, minor nits: there's a small glob of gold paint on his back and the whites of one of his eyes is larger than the other. Being that I bought the figure 'blind' on ebay, I consider myself extremely lucky.

Although I'm still anxious for wave 11, I and my wallet are very, very glad that we may not get them til mid-December.

Anyone else have any new finds or still catching up like myself?

I am actually doing my best to stay out of this line although I almost bought the Abin/Hal 2 pack twice over the weekend.

I tried for a VEEEERY long time, since it was DC Superheroes a few years back I just got in this year and now have almost forty of 'em. If you have a tight budget (like me) or are more into the high end stuff, resist if you can. I've spent a ton of cash on these things this year.

Any news on the Target "Public Enemies" next Wave? I need to finish off Brimstone.

Thanks...I think. :lol

I already knew all of that but I didn't want to post a novel's worth of info and sound like some super comic nerd. :monkey3

I was just generalizing. :)

***gets on soap box***

Modern fans are idiots. Comic readers nowadays don't know jack about the MU. I could give out a Marvel quiz and about 90% of the Marvel readers would fail the test cause they haven't read a comic that's over 10 years old. Steve is a great character. The problem is that Marvel hasn't given a crap about him in years. Gruenwald took on that book EONS ago cause nobody wanted it. Gruewald leaves after 10+ years on the book and Marvel smarts up and hires Waid and Garney who just flat out kicked ass BUT of course Marvel screwed that up by "killing" him in the whole Heroes Reborn fiasco. One word: Liefeld. :banghead Then for years his book floundered around until Brubaker came along. Steve got back some of his edge and as soon Steve hit his stride, Marvel kills him and replaces him with Bucky. Ugh. What a momentum killer.

If they were going to replace Cap bring back the Agent. He was always a great character IMO.

Great. Now I sound like the super comic nerd. :rotfl

Any news on the Target "Public Enemies" next Wave? I need to finish off Brimstone.

Matty said December when the first wave hit but who knows. Unless the case has a different DCPI number you'll just have to keep checking out Target.

I haven't seen any news on the second wave of public enemies - all old news.
My LCB had a 30 % sale and that cleaned out my wallet, too. It's practically gasping for air, specially since Wave 11 and Joker dx is coming. Yikes!

Classic Aquaman is selling for 30.00 bucks? Yowza! I guess I under-appreciate these figures sometimes.

Here's a pic of my Dc Universe classics collection. Missing the Nefarious 5. And although I do have Wave 10 I am just out of room right now. I built this thing about a month ago thinking it would be more than enough to hold them all. How wrong I was.
