That terrorism is all due to the politics of Democrats. It's not any particular parties fault. Our Government has supported various groups across the world, some turned into terrorists... We've ignored small threats and had them turn into bigger threats... we've pissed off groups and put ourselves in their sights...

But it's not because of any certain group... it's all our faults.

Those rights are being restricted from enemy combatants, who are neither citizens, nor entitled to the same protections that we are.

US citizens can be named "enemy combatants" and lose those protections.

I know which party has done more for veterans while in office. It's always fun to hear conservatives try to spin themselves as the soldiers' party when their president is cutting away veterans benefits and slashing danger pay.

This is where assumptions and 'us VS them' mentalities gets really dangerous though - when one assumes all people who vote a certain way are extremists. Example - it's bad to assume all Republicans are Christian extremists who commit hideous crimes against gay people, even though those people who do commit those crimes (both verbal and physical) that fall into that category.

It's like an SAT question: if this is true (a soldier is spit on in a time of passion and war) than you can assume it's probably a 'leftie' who did it... but you CANNOT assume that all people who lean to the left would do that or agree with that or wouldn't hesitate to take the piss out of someone they saw doing that, no matter which way they vote.

I see WAY too many people making those backwards assumptions these days, and it scares me.

No need to be scared, because you must've missed what I was saying. I never attempted to make it sound like all left-leaning citizens are the ones doing this.

However---the ones doing it will 99.9% of the time affiliate themselves with the left. This is common knowledge and if you can argue that you're a greater champion of circular logic than barbelith.

I'm in no way an anti-gunner. I'd never have one in my house, but that's a personal choice. Guns have their place, and many people love to hunt. That's fine, I just wish they'd keep their bloody kills out of my line of site. Hunting for food is one thing, hunting for sport is another. I'm all for the 2nd amendment, but wish it was a tiny bit harder to buy a gun - better background checks, etc.

Mostly I'm anti making guns 'cool'.

I respect your answer. Their are plenty of laws to keep criminals from legally owning guns, the problem is they don't obey the law. You people who are worried about losing your rights need to realize that is what the 2nd Ammendment is about. The ability to overthrow a corrupt govt. Not hunting.

How does the patriot act actually adversely affect you, your friends and extended family.
If you were a member of a terrorist cell then Im glad your upset.
But if not Id like real world example of your rights being infringed upon with out the typical hyperbole.

The real problem is that it opens the door to removing other rights in the desire for tighter security. Slowly, if we see more and more of these laws enacted... we will lose the rights that our country was founded on and bring us that much closer to a Fascist country that rules it citizens out of fear.
