I think it'll be pretty hard to for medicom to top Sideshow's head sculpt. It's almost perfect! I am pretty sure they'll do a great job with the costume and accessories, but when it comes to sculpt, sideshow is still number 1 in my book.

yeah, SS's sculpt is pretty good, but medi can still top it with a better expression. SS maul just look so.... sedated. dont konw what it is, its just a boring expression. at least its not as bad as the sleepy Luke.

which figure is this?? a custom or another shot of the medicom?? the details in the eyes are incredible.

It's a custom, I can't remember if it was posted who made it though.

Sideshow's Maul strikes me as Maul captured more in his Coruscant and Tattooine moments, calm, calculating, mindful of the situation, which I like. However, I would, to give it variety besides being a diff manufacturer, like to see Medi capture the Theed "I'm gonna **** you up" gaze of evil he had throughout the duel.

Well, one thing about the expression so many like when Maul was announced is there are a lot of products where he is looking pissed ala the 1:1 and PF. So a piece where his facial expression maybe is a bit more neutral isn't so bad.

Deffinately, but I think what people are looking for, and I agree cuz I want a little variety, is for an evil neutral, not open mouth snarling evil, but piercing gaze evil, a step between Sideshow 1/6 Maul and PF Maul.

from the looks of the sculpt, it looks like it was based off the first time you see maul, behind palpatine. if so i think that will be the best sculpt to have, imo. I think its perfectly angry and serious without looking like a hungry dog.

Umm you are kidding right? Nash told me there was no problems with the Medicom body breaking. Glad I wasn't the only one who mentioned it (especially since there is a thread about it at Mediworld).

Cheers,

Brad
the great Dr Brad who makes 7 figures a year!!!!!

You are right, Ive never had any problems with any of my medicom figures breaking.

I think the Medi head will be better ONLY because the face will have a bit more of a scowel to it. SS is great, one of their best, but to say Medi CAN'T top it is very....unlikely. I think they'll match it and ti will come down to a matter of preference. I'd like Maul a little angrier than SS Maul, but now the full growl like the PF. Looks like that's what Medi will give us.

Also, I shouldn't have to try hard to get a natural pose for $65. But for $150, I won't have to try at all. In any pose. It will be a cake walk. Not a dis on SS, it's jsut, cmon, Art Buck body? Cmon!

Sad but true.

I'm gonna contend that. To me, from what I can see of the face, it seems more to capture him in the first moments the Jedi see him in Theed as the hangar doors open and Duel of the Fates starts playing.

i think you are both right as his expression was similar in both scenes. i have a feeling this is going to be a kicking figure!

It's a custom by a very talented guy who uses the name DarthCallous. The headsculpt is a cast of the GG Maul statue with a bit of resculpting and one hell of a paintjob. The body used is a Volks Neo Guy and I believe it also has a few proto parts from the forthcoming Triad Toys bodies as well. He's also working on another Maul sculpt this time completely from scratch that has moveable eyes like the Enterbay Bruce Lee figures.

That's what it appears to me as well from what we can see in that one small pic. I know if it's at SDCC I'm gonna be trying to take as many pics of it as I can.

I'm not saying the buck body is the greatest thing ever but I don't have to try HARD to get a natural pose. It's very easy IMO.

Well, I am not going to succumb to personal attacks. I will stay with talking about figures. There is even a sticky thread on Mediworld about the subject.

https://com5.runboard.com/bmedicom.f6.t11799

So, there is an issue as to the delicate nature of the Medicom 301 RAH body.
Is the body perfect? For the collector it is very nice body, but there are some problems (size and breakage). What is the perfect body? Personally, I don't think it has been developed by any company yet. Perhaps Medicoms, Sideshow, etc. next body will put us closer to that, but in the mean time, enjoy the bodies that we have. They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Cheers,

Brad

I love the Hot Toys body. It has a weight to it and is pretty durable. Sideshow's body is floppy and very light and can't get into a lot of natrual poses or even good poses. Medicom's is fragile, but no breakage here. There are some cracks in the ankle.

If I had to put them in order from best to worst:

Hot Toys
Medicom Toy
Sideshow Toys

That's out of what I have. I have one lone dragond figure, but it's pretty old so I wouldn't put him on their. Same with the 21st Century Toys or 2 Hasbro stuff I have burried somewhere.

Can't wait to see more of Maul. :maul

I can't believe how awesome Medicom's upcoming figures look:

I think the scale issue is starting to matter to me less and less....
