It's a flaming turd. It took everything that made the original so great and tainted it. Redoing the amazing voice acting, giving snake super-human, matrix like moves, the added elements made it too easy, the gamecube control was not suited for the gameplay, I can go on and on. They changed too much and didn't honor the source material enough.

It's like remaking a classic hollywood film, it just shouldn't be done. As a true MGS fan it's not even on my radar, I gave it many chances, but in the end...I hate it to death. It doesn't even convey the same mood and atmosphere, it's too clean to polished, it's just not the same MGS. Everything was lighted up, the music was changed, it's just a mess all over the board.

Actually, the voice acting for Twin Snakes was more canon to the series than MGS 1. In TS, Mei Ling and Naomi Hunter lost their accents, and their updated accents were carried over to MGS 4.

I managed to find a copy of twin snakes in a gamestop awhile back. The cinematics might of changed a bit but I looked past that. Since the controls were more like MGS2, I played it more as if it was a mod of running MGS1 in a MGS2 engine. I found it enjoyable. I like a different take on a classic game.

I feel the same way. Twin Snakes wasn't created to replace MGS 1, and as you said, it was simply a "different take on a classic game".

:lol I never understood why Mei Ling had a heavy accent even though she told Snake early in the game that she was raised in Berkeley, California for most of her life.

Twin Snakes was the main reason for why I bought a Gamecube. Sure, in a few aspects, Twin Snakes wasn't as good as the original game, and the boss fights became much easier with the first-person view. However, it was really nice to finally see MGS 1 with updated graphics, and the cinematics were absolutely breathtaking, especially when the game was played on my DLP television.

Now, in terms of a collectible video-game investment, I prefer Twin Snakes over the original MGS 1. If you guys check Ebay, the prices for used copies of Twin Snakes has been skyrocketing in value, while the prices for used MGS 1s have remained static.

You can get both MGS and The Twin Snakes for cheap on ebay regardless.

When I first got my gamecube Twin Snakes was the first game I bought, and boy was I disappointed. The voice acting was stronger across the board in MGS even if the voices aren't canon I prefer them and they were far better than the attempts we got in MGS.

But see there's only one take on the game and that's what actually happened. This re-imaging of a classic simply wasn't needed. Bottom line is MGS will always be "the classic", the one that was ground breaking, and TTS will always be that crappy remake...so I'm fine with that.

This guy knows whats up:

I think Twin snakes is briliant. And metal gear solid 1 was my favourite game of all time.

I'm all for retro but if it wasn't for twin snakes I wouldn't be playing the original metal gear solid any more! It's too old. I'm all for twin snakes.

I don't understand this comment. If it wasn't for the TTS you wouldn't be playing the original anymore, because it's too old?

I think what he means is because as great as MGS is, the gameplay/graphics compared to today's games just isn't fun to play anymore. For me it's impossible to go back and play MGS after having played MGS4 and enjoy it for anything other than a piece of memorabilia. It was great for the time and will always hold a special place for me, but that doesn't mean it holds up to current standards.

Though it may be missing a few bells and whistles it's unfair to say that compared to games today it's not fun to play anymore. I just replayed through it about 2 weeks ago and it was fun as ever. Graphics were good for there time and sure they don't compare to MGS4, how could they, they are separated by 10 years. I don't see anything wrong with the gameplay.

Current standards? Stack MGS against any of todays games, and the gameplay, voice acting, engrossing story, music, and overall atmosphere and it still trumps most. The high production value, overall quality, and attention to detail was the one of the things that set MGS apart, and still does 11 years later.

I also disagree about the gameplay not being good anymore. I played it through late last year, and it was still great. Just as Resident Evil 1 still has great gameplay, even though it is completely different from RE 4 and 5.

Similarly, many NES games with 4 directions and 2 buttons still have better gameplay than some 360/PS3 games that I've played, IMO. More complex and more options doesn't necessarily mean better.

Exactly. NES games are still fun, look at Mario Brothers...a D-pad, and two buttons. We can;t say just because a gam,e is older does not mean they are fun anymore or the game play is inferior to games nowadays because we have more buttons and we can do more actions in a game. T

ake for example MGS4 which by all means is an AMAZING game, Snake has so many actions he can do and the AI is very good. But that doesn't mean it's a better game than MGS, in which the AI is considerably dumber due to limitations and snake can't do half of the things he can in later games.

That's exactly what I meant. Was tired last night, I probably could have worded it better.

The reason I like twin snakes so much is the fact I didn't think it was too different form the original?

That's going off memory. I haven't played the original in ages though, so it might be different and I just don't remember.

And the game play. I thought it was ace, the features from MGS2 included in it. That's fine by me! :D

I bought a gamecube specifically for the game, the game cube was £40 the game was £20. Brilliant!

But that's what we are saying that it is fun to play still. Graphics are a little dated but it's still fun to play, I can pop in Mario Bros and still have fun and that's the granddaddy of all modern games.

The restrictions to Resident Evil 1 actually contribute to the effectiveness of the game. Back then, Resident Evil was "survival horror." Now, it's essentially a fancy first person shooter with some very basic puzzle-solving elements. The more complex controls and camera angles, etc. wouldn't have worked as well with RE 1.

Totally, it's a shell of what it used to be. I hated RE5 couldn't get into it, it's only the same in name sake, and using the same characters. The game play and mood has totally changed. The creepy survival horror, with tight spaces, and zombies is long gone...replaced with an all out shooter/action game with no zombies, and taking place in the daylight, with partners now.

The game was scary as hell because you were all alone. I'm happy that MGS hasn't changed, as you are still forced to use stealth in the games, you can go all rambo in 4, but it's much easier and more fun to sneak around.

Other games such as Mario and Zelda have always stayed true to the original formula, and I applaud that.

It probably is still fun to play but, I much prefer playing twin snakes, just because of the graphics.

Your can prefer it. But I don't think graphics alone is the only reason to prefer a game over another. Sure the visuals in TTS are better, because the MGS came out in 98, TTS came out in 03. But I feel the update in graphics hurt it more than helped.

My explanation: The visuals in the first were gritty, shadows were everywhere, and it was dark...it all helped the set the mood. In the remake everything is too sterile, their is a blue overcast all of the time, and everything is just too soft. I also preferred the faces and models in MGS because they gave me basic shapes and in my head I could fill in how they actually looked.

This is one that I will disagree with you on, Starkiller. I personally feel that MGS 1 was only helped with the better graphics (I feel the same way about the RE remake on the Gamecube), but of course, your arguments are valid ones, they just don't apply to me (couldn't you just darken your screen a bit if it was too bright?).

But of course, the next MGS "next gen" game stars Raiden, and replaces "Tactical Espionage Action" with "Lightning Bolt Action" :monkey4:monkey4

Darkening the screen can only go so far. I dunno they lost something in the transition to next gen graphics, the same feeling was gone. When returning to Shadow Moses in MGS4, they got the gritty and dark atmosphere there again. They remade it too soon, 5 years is not enough. They could do it now and it would be awesome. This is what TTS should have looked like:

Konami being minorly involved, and Kojima being limited in the development hurt the remake. Ryuhei Kitamura, and his over the top stunts, and bullet time, made Snake who had been in retirement and who was old and worn, do ninja flips, and flip backward off of a missile....yet he can't even jump in game, come now. Recasting the ninja = worst decision ever.

I guess I;m saying, I'm all for a remake if done right, with the same team, and no short cuts. TTS just fell way sort of the original in every way, which makes me sad. As I expecting an amazing game with updated visuals and everything to better...

I dunno if this has already been mentioned but the last line in MGS4 is "It's rising again"

Cool eh
