bummer, i just read in gamesradar what plasmid303 posted. well, i hope its an improvement..........screw that, you want improvement? give us a big boss mgs!

Well, at least now, the "impetuous fanboys" like myself, can breath a sigh of relief that the MGS 4 engine won't be ported to the 360. :lol

Anyways, I agree with your assessment. An MGS game without a Snake in the leading role isn't really an improvement, and it's not even MGS. Kojima's not even involved in the "Rising" project, so that says it all.

The Kotaku author is wrong, when he said that "Rising" is a pun for the Japanese God "Raijin" - he's spreading a false rumor. The Japanese God of Wind, "Fujin" was the first to appear in the trailer, and "Raijin" was second. Furthermore, both of the Gods hold equal significance in Shinto mythology (and an equal significance in "Rising" I believe).

^ It wasn't the Kotaku author that introduced the idea of "Rising" being a pun. That was mentioned in the latest Kojima Productions Podcast (found here on Hideo Kojima's MGS blog). The podcast crew work very closely with Kojima and the developers, so I'm thinking they know what they're talking about. Of course, anything can be true or false until it comes from Kojima's mouth.

I'm confused by why Fujin appearing first in the trailer has any significance when it's clear that Raijin has a closer connection to Raiden (who is the star of the game), and it just so happens that the game's title sounds a lot like those two names. The pun seems spot on to me.

Well, I'll get on boat until I hear it from Kojima, himself. But, to me, "Rising" sounds more similar to "Raiden".

As for your concern, here's what I think:

Thunder/Lightning : Wind as Raijin : Fujin

Stormy weather is associated with thunder, lightning, and strong winds all working together in harmony- just like what was happening at the Konami site a few weeks ago.

I don't think their pun is supposed to be perceived as that complex or elaborate. Kojima and crew love word play. They use words that sound alike in a lot of their teaser trailers. I don't think they were being too cryptic in this case. If you listen to a Japanese person (who isn't fluent in English) try to pronounce "Rising", it would come out sounding more like "Raijin" than "Raiden".

You're thinking too far into it, in my opinion, and right now the KP Podcast lends enough credence to the pun than it really needs in the first place.

:lol Now that's just being stereotypical.

As for me, I wouldn't assume to know how the Kojima crew thinks (even though, they aren't the ones involved in the "Rising" project). After all, I'm still trying to understand a lot of the philosophies and underlying themes from the previous games. MGS is something very complex, that becomes even more complex, over time as it evolves. Personally, I don't believe that I'm thinking enough.

Stereotypical? Yes. True? Yes. I'm Asian, if that counts for anything.

In any case, it doesn't matter until the game is released what puns mean what.

I'm Asian too, and I'll tell you now that it counts for nothing (at least, not in this instance). :lol

I still believe that my explanation of the so-called "pun" seems more logical. But, I agree, we'll have the answers later on, when more news of the game becomes available.

I never had a problem with the camera angle, it's how all the camera angles in the previous installments were. I love the game without this "fixed" camera angle.

The fixed camera definitely made it harder to sneak around, that's for sure. It took me so long to complete the original MGS 3 the first time around, because of the camera. I had to be extra cautious.

The next time I hear a Japanese person (of noteworthiness, of course) say "Rising", YOU WILL GET A PM, mister. :lol

EDIT: I will make sure to get a video of it, too. :D

i ended up grabbing a new PSP 3000 last night. i went to 2 different gamestops. one had a PSP Slim, but it was so scratched up i refused paying $20 less than a brand new one. so, i just need to track down a memory stick until the one i ordered on buy.com arrives. i found an 8gb stick for $35. i also picked up a copy of god of war.

I feel it's necessary to post this. I always get a laugh when I see it. :D

Cool! Same here, man. I just finished MGS 3, and I'm playing through Portable Ops right now. I've decided to finish the games in chronological order - that way, it'll help to refresh my memory on everything.

By the way, I seriously can't wait for Peace Walker. Even though it's a PSP release, Kojima described it as the "MGS 5 in me", and the true conclusion to the MGS franchise. Loads of PSPs are gonna sell once that game that game gets released.

yeah i was thinking the same. it'll be awhile before i get through the games because i can only play about 45 minutes at a time this week. and yes, PSPs are gonna sell like hot cakes.... they already got me to buy one with just the announcement.

Did they release another Portable Ops Game of the first PSP MGS game?

Here in norway i found MGS:portable Ops PLUS,it looks to be the same game but with extra missions and training like the MGS2 and MGS3 Substence but can`t be sure, anyone know?

not sure what the first question is, but yes the Portable Ops Plus in my understanding is just a multiplayer game and also you can play the individual missions....no story, just action.
