Yes. The PSP Slim (models 2000 t0 3000 and probably the PSP Go) has video output to a TV. You'll have to buy the appropriate cables separately though.

If this works i will buy a PSP just for the Big Boss games.

how does it look?? does it look all stretched and crappy?

Actually, when you play PSP games on an HD TV, it does not go full screen. PSP games output in a 480 x 270 resolution and zooms a bit for HDTVs. It looks pretty good still, with a slight drop in quality compared to just playing the game from the PSP screen. If you're watching movies through the PSP on your tv, it'll look as good as any 480p dvd and does fill the entire screen.

There are probably some better quality videos floating around to demonstrate this, but I gave a quick search and I thought this was a decent example:

skip forward to about 3 minutes in for gameplay (Socom on PSP):
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/YhIkVV7dJUg&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/YhIkVV7dJUg&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

As you know, the PSP isn't graphical powerhouse like the current home consoles (or the previous gen home consoles), so don't expect the games to look like MGS4 or anything.

I'm not sure if any recent firmware updates changed anything relating to PSP output on TVs, but I don't think it matters.

I`m a newbie when it comes to PSP,I see there is some different versions, but what is the difference?

Older games works on the newer PSP`s?

In terms of graphics and performance, they're all the same. The only real difference between the models are aesthetics, screen brightness and quality.

There was the first PSP, then replaced by the PSP Slim (model 2000) a couple years ago. The PSP Slim is simply lighter in weight and slimmer than the first PSP but is essentially the same in terms of functionality and power. Last year, Sony replaced the PSP Slim with the PSP 3000, which is exactly the same as the PSP Slim except with the addition of a new, brighter, more colorful screen. However, it has been noted recently that the PSP 3000's screen sucks because it displays weird artifacts and interlace lines while playing games. I'd stick to the PSP Slim if you can still get it (which you probably could in retail).

The PSP Go was announced during E3 last week. It is a complete makeover in regards to appearance. Again the hardware underneathe is unchanged. However, there is no UMD drive. There's a thread on it in this section.

The Wiki entry on the PSP is spot on if you want to give it a read.

Thanks for the information,i will pick up PSP and MGS Portable Ops later...Man the graphics must be terrible, going from PS3 to PSP:lol

As long as you keep your expectations in check, I don't think you'll be disappointed, graphics-wise. The best PSP games look somewhere along the lines of almost PS2 quality, which is head over heels better than what the DS can do and is also above what the iPhone/iTouch can achieve. You might be disappointed in the lack of a right analog stick though.

Well, Kojima wanted to tell two stories. Konami wanted two big games in its release stable. Because one will do well on TWO platforms (360 and PS3), they relegated the character with ostensibly lower appeal to the game on both consoles, while the PSP, which is arguably dragging in sales, gets the big dog.

On a tangential note, there's a possibility that MGS Rising will end up selling more than MGS4.

That's left to be seen, but I highly doubt that it will ever happen. Since 2005 and up to the release of MGS 4 last year, there was a lot of press coverage and hype surrounding the game. After all, MGS 4 brought an end to Solid Snake, who had been the main protagonist for the Metal Gear franchise for over 20 years. It was practically the end of an entire videogame era (so to speak).

I doubt that Raiden will draw as many players as Snake did, irregardless to the fact that "Rising" being a multi-platform release. Also, don't forget that "Rising" is just a side-story, and unlike MGS 4, Kojima will not be directly involved in the development for "Rising" (that will be left to a new director, and a new team).

The graphics on the PSP are very similar to the PS2's. Also, Portable Ops was developed by using the "Subsistence" engine (the same graphics engine that was used for MGS 3), so you won't see a severe loss in quality when comparing PO to MGS 3.

I think it will sell more...it's across two platforms now. 360 fans are just happy to have a MGS game, as well as fans are hungry to snatch up anything MGS.

Solidus was right.

He only wanted to reveal the existence of The Patriots to worldwide public scrutiny and topple their power of the business community in Manhattan. And being unable to father children and pass on his legacy, wished to be immortalized by history. Not such a bad guy.

I think Solidus' intentions were good when he first learned of the Patriots, but his ambition to destroy them, turned him evil towards the end. Remember, he killed Raiden's parents, and used child soldiers to fight various wars in Eastern Europe. He was also willing to crash Arsenal Gear into Manhattan, at the risk of killing thousands of innocent civilians. That doesn't sound like a good guy, in my opinion.

You gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet right!? :maul

A pig also has to die for us to have bacon in our omelets. Not that I mind, I LOVE BACON! :monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5

Anyways, MGS is a weird series if you think about it. Nothing's clear cut, and the lines of good and evil are often blurred. The Patriots were a method of control upon humanity - an evil that needed to be destroyed. But, while Solidus and Liquid were fighting against the Patriots, they themselves were also evil (based on their actions, and their total disregard for human life).

The even more strange part, is that the Patriots were using Solid Snake since the beginning of MGS 1. Snake was an agent for the Patriots, even though he was totally oblivious to that fact. So knowing that, is it right for us to call Snake a hero?

There's just so much philosophy involved in MGS, that I'm still trying to understand much of it.

Every single (significant) character in the MGS series has blood on their hands.

No revolution without bloodshed.

Yep exactly. I think the difference is that Snake was on "our side" He was killing sure, but to stop these "terrorists". Basically everyone in the MGS universe is being used by someone else, who may be being used by someone else. Heck all of MGS2 was basically people using people, using people. One big set up from Raiden's side, from Ocelots, to Olga, to Solidus...it was one big **** fest.

I just finished my third replay of MGS 3: Subsistence. In my opinion, it's the best game in the entire franchise.

Anyways, here are some "Raiden" references from MGS 3 that I found funny:

Boss: What is this fairy disguise? It'll rub off on you, and then you'll lose sight of who you truly are.. (referring to Snake's Raiden/Raikov mask).

And then there was that whole conversation between Major Zero and Snake. Snake (disguised as Raikov) mentioned that he'd be popular with the Raikov look, and then Major Zero told him, not to count on it.

It's amusing that Kojima didn't mind poking fun at Raiden, even though Raiden is his favorite character.
