That's some corporate bull****. Konami is firing hundreds of their workers and going into gambling? That's just hilarious.

75 year old CEO? Sounds about right hahaha. I don't see them leaving the gaming business all together, its still its highest earner.

If they do leave it behind i hope they sell off the IPs at the very least

Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy- all my favorite games growing up has gone to hell and now it's MGS as well. Y'know what series has been consistently GREAT all along? GTA. :lol

Yeah Metal Gear is the only series period next to books that makes true sequels. I always thought it was one of the "safe" franchises, but nothing is safe, life is like a game of thrones

Well we only got two real sequels to MGS, and now were stuck in the past. I have a hard time hypothesizing where the series would go afterward since there is no more time left for BB in the timeline. I thought Koji would POSSIBLY do remakes. But now that he's gone, Konami might run with a reboot. At least Koji's departure doesn't affect Rising.

Retro episode of Electric Playground. Hideo Kojima! David Hayter! MGS2! Tommy Tallarico! What more can you ask for?

What's the point of Hayter without Kojima? I hope that if Konami keeps making MGS games, it's with alternate characters and parts of that universe and has nothing to do with the main ones.

Are you saying Hayter is bigger in importance than Kojima? Because that is objectively false.

I'm just referring to the hypocrisy of Kojima. No matter what anyone feels about it, MGS is still going forward. I'd at least want Hayter back. There's no frigging way I see Sutherland coming back for another one.

I've said it before, but Kojima has grown out of the series. It's obvious. It's become a mutant version of what it used to be, and new blood might be the way to go.

Kojima has wanted out for years, so this outcome was inevitable, however delayed.

Hayter will always be recognized as the iconic voice for Snake, just like how Conroy is for Batman. I'd say that Hayter matters as much to MGS as Kojima. Least we forget all of the controversy behind GZ, and petitions to bring back Hayter. A lot of fans are still holding out hope that he'll make an appearance in MGS V.

It would be an earth shattering cameo, if all this time... he was in V, just for a small cameo as pre-teen Snake. I personally think that alone, would totally eclipse everything else within the game.

One thing I'd say, is that The Kief most likely won't be returning for another MGS (that is, if the series actually survives past MGS V). The guy's always busy with new projects, and I think this game was more of like one-shot for him. 24 was his baby, but even he's ready to call it quits on his own series. And you better believe that MGS doesn't matter as much to him as 24.

I think even a small cameo appearance would appease everyone's previous concerns.

It was a side project paycheck to him. Hayter on the other hand (regardless of his Hollywood status) would of been in it for the long haul, and would always reprise either Snake role if asked. He's made it abundantly clear, he's a lifer.

When working on TTS, he even rehired all of the voice actors of MGS 1 with his own paycheck. Something like that takes magnitudes of dedication.

What's the point of Metal Gear without Hayter, when you still got Akio Otsuka?

Why replace Ostuka?
He's just dubbing over Sutherland's performance, as well as some others.

Hayter got replaced because Kojima wanted to go with an actor to utilize facial acting. Whether it was a smart move to replace Hayter or not we'll have to wait and see once TPP comes out, but replacing Ostuka probably wouldn't have changed anything other than angering the Japanese fans. If anything, I'd be questioning why some of the older American cast was brought back instead of getting "better actors" to replace them.

I know on this board we're pretty much split on how we feel about the series, but the Metal Gear brand is still looked on very positively by the gaming community. The last major console release was 7 years ago, supposedly Kojima has been working on TPP for 5 years now, it'll be running on an entirely new engine, the gameplay has been revamped from the ground up, Kojima's reputation within the gaming community is probably at an all time high. I just can't see any parallels between the MGS franchise and the RE franchise. There's a lot of people out there that actually expect MGSV to be the best Metal Gear yet.

I'm not saying you're wrong about how you feel about the franchise and Kojima, you're definitely entitled to your opinion, you're probably a bigger fan of the franchise than me, but I disagree that the majority of the gaming world feel that the series has been ruined beyond repair and Kojima is washed up. I could be wrong though, I'm just basing that on the responses I see from major gaming sites and such.

You know what, guys? Regardless of all the things we've discussed about and argued about MGS V so far, it's really a sad time in the franchise for everyone. I wanted to see Kojima go off into the sunset with his head high, and some new projects under his belt. And have Hayter return for another stint of MGS games with some old, but familiar faces from KojiPro at the helm. It looks like it'll never happen, though. The series practically has no future now, and we can forget about the MG 1 and 2 remakes, because corporate heads at Konami seem absolutely relentless in dismantling the very foundations of the creativity behind MGS.

So, as of now, I'm just going to enjoy the ride, and support Kojima's last MGS game, and possibly even the last big game of his career. Just enjoy it for what it is, as it fades off into the darkness.

I'm not saying Hayter isn't important, that's obviously not true, but saying Hayter is more or equally important to Kojima is simply false.

I never said he was more important, you're putting words in my mouth.

He wanted an actor with facial acting. I had forgotten that Hayter was a faceless jellyfish :lol

Were never going to agree on it, but Kojima wanted a leading star in the role and threw Hayter away like garbage. I don't think the series is beyond repair and I don't think TPP will do any damage that PW hasn't already done. But it's left the militaristic/partial sc-fi genre and just became a hokey Japanese Anime to me. No matter how dark TPP is being said to be, I'm sure it's going to be ladent with crap straight out of PW.

I used to think that MGS fans were above most of the gaming community, and were the only "thinking" gamers. But with so many people losing their **** over the last two released (MGS4, PW) my personal stock in that thought has dropped immensely. You don't need to absolutely love everything about one particular game and can still be a fan of it. I think fans that can pick apart something they love are usually the best kind. But the other kind that just takes everything in without thinking, are the dudebros we often mention that eat up all the CODs.
