I was about to post that :lol

Wow rising is equal to it thats bold.

Rising is one of the best games ever for the music alone imo, funnily enough I'm not a fan of Sundowner's song

Well, that was an interesting read :lol. First, I'd have to say that the guy was really misinformed about some things, and seemed to be stretching other things. too. Just to get these out of the way:

(1) His claim that MGS 4 was no more than 10 GB in size, when in actuality, it was close to 50 GB due to the use of uncompressed sound files. Which leads to his other claim that KojiPro should've made full installation available. However, this would have been impossible on standard PS3 hard-drives at the time, since PS3s in 2008 only came in 20, 40, and 80 GB configurations. Of course, you could switch out one of the default drives and install a bigger laptop drive, instead. But, it's a moot consideration, since most PS3 gamers have never opted for a HDD upgrade.

(2) His claim that the exclusion of chaff grenades didn't make any sense. But, it's basically spelled out, that The Patriots had blacklisted the manufacturing of chaff grenades, because these types of grenades would've interfered with the electronics of the unmanned robots that proliferated the war economy.

(3) His claim that the soundtrack was not the best. Which is absolutely horse ****. While MGS 4 didn't have Norihiko Hibino's signature style of sound as with previous games, you absolutely cannot dismiss Harry Gregson-Williams' involvement, and let alone, the beautiful arrangements of his music ("Father and Son", "Metal Gear Saga", "Old Snake", the list goes on). Also, Hans Zimmer only composed one song for Modern Warfare 2. It was called "Onwards" and it was played in the Gulag mission level. Furthermore, it just happened to be the most recognized, and popular song for MW2.

I just don't know where this guy is coming from with his critique on the music. I have to say, reading it kind of pissed me off. I'm no fan of MGS 4, but it is a freakin' military game. Sure, Hibino wasn't involved, but what kind of music does he want?

In any case, other than those three major oversights, his other points about the absurdity of the storyline, and the overall bad graphics were extremely accurate. Aside from lossless audio, MGS 4 just wasn't the technical masterpiece that we expected it to be, and it really did look dated when compared to Uncharted 2. I even remember when Kojima said that he'd rate MGS 4 a "1/10" :lol. In reality, the game fell far below his expectations, and in another interview, he said that he was very depressed when he saw the open-world of Assassin's Creed - which was something that he never managed to achieve for MGS 4.

And yes, the storyline did seem like it was written by 13 year olds. All in all, MGS 4 is very much like the TDKR of video games: unnecessarily over-the-top, lacking in substance, and easily forgettable.

I think his criticisms were excessive, and some of the facts were ill informed but some of them do raise good points, especially so in 2010 where MGS4 had quite a grip on the gaming community. Playing it today it feels hopelessly outdated, aside from the sound design which in actuality is still superior to 99.9% of games on the market. Funny indeed.

I'm pretty sure he meant the in-game soundtrack though, as Harry's work was sublime as usual but the in-game soundtrack wasn't that remarkable.

I was playing MGS1 recently and few days later just decided to try out MGS4 for fun, the story felt like anime compared to the gritty setting of MGS1. Having the two side by side, I was totally taken aback by the quality of the writing and directing. :lol

I totally have to admit that Uncharted 2 blew MGS4 away as the game to get a PS3. Better story, graphics and all around one heck of a ride. Unfortunate, but true. :(

I think we were all in a dream state when MGS 4 was released :lol. Back in 2008, I truly believed that the series was without flaw, and that Kojima was incapable of wrong. I thought he was like as a preeminent genius of our time. But, after a few years, it just became painfully obvious of how flawed the game was, in both storyline and technical aspects (graphics, gameplay, etc).

It's truly the worst game in the series, and it's an utter laughing stock when compared to MGS 1.

I got that feeling towards the end of the game. In-fact my biggest disappointment was seeing the first actual in game screens and realizing it wasn't gonna look anything like that amazing TGS demo. Even playing through the game i realized, it was the first MGS i couldn't recommend to friends to play.

I think the Order was the first game that looked as good as that initial TGS teaser. They were hitting way above belt there

Im gonna stop here as i could go on forever. I may write a blog post or make a video about MGS4 one day, when i have the time

I can go through an entire list of why MGS4 let me down. But the most glaring thing I can think of, was Big Boss still being alive. All it did, was take attention away from Snake. It wasn't required at all, nothing he said really added anything to the story really, aside from the explanation of Liquid Ocelot.

Honestly, I think Ocelot pissed me off more than Big Boss. His motivations shifted constantly throughout the series, he betrayed and killed so many people, but then all of a sudden, he became the secret good guy?

You and me both :lol. The one thing I'm hoping for, is if MGS V can retcon some aspects of MGS 4 - especially the ending. It's funny, we never got to hear Zero's side of the story.
