Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

As a massive MGS fan, it doesn't really bother me too much that hayter is missing as Boss's voice. Now that i have had time to think about it. I really enjoyed Doyle's perfomance in 4 as boss, i thought his voice was spot on and brought through a lot of emotion. If SS is in this and hayter is voicing him them it is the best of both worlds. It will be a little hard to get use to though but he even said it himself he had a good run what was it 6 games? Maybe its all a decoy who knows, maybe hayter wasn't able to record when they needed the GDC demo who knows only time will time.

I am really looking forward to this and finding out who all those people are in the hospital. My first thought was the guy in the fire was volgin, i mean he even looked like he was wearing that long overcoat he wears in 3.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Im happy they went with a different VA, since he is a different character - and looks it now. Hayter will always be Solid Snake though.
Hiring Doyle and Sutherland is a great step, hopefully we get more dramatic acting instead of that cartoony crap weve been getting!
When Hayter comes back i hope he delivers his lines like in MGS1(PS1), a much more naturalistic/realistic tone to Snake

I cant believe how good the graphics are in the trailer! Any HD download links yet?

I give props to Kojima for finally deciding to differentiate Big Boss from Solid Snake - in terms of how the two characters appear and sound like. They're two different people after all, regardless of Solid Snake being a clone.

In any case, the graphics do look spectacular. I'm guessing that they were running the demo on a PC. I find it hard to believe that it would look that good on any of the current gen consoles.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Yup. Plus, Kaz was never on Big Boss' side, in the first place. He was a Patriot spy, who trained Solid Snake and instructed him on how to kill Big Boss in Metal Gear 2. In a sense, Miller used both Big Boss and Solid Snake for his own ends. Even though his character might seem like a "good guy" in Peace Walker, he's far from it.

Y'know what's better? Bring back Roy Campbell! He was awesome in Portable Ops, and I always figured that unlike Miller, his "betrayal" of Big Boss came from his commitment to his duty, I doubt Campbell has anything personal against Big Boss.

Campbell deserves more exposure!

I think it's likely the case, that Campbell was being used just like Solid Snake. He was kept out of the loop, and didn't even realize that there was a secret war between "Zero" and Big Boss. Like you said, I'm sure he was committed to his duty and just saw Big Boss as a threat to America that needed to be eliminated.

But, yeah, I would love to see more of Campbell, too. Good lord... Kojima really needs to hurry up and remake Metal Gears 1 and 2!

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Did I miss something? Who does Kaz refer to when he says "what about him?" at 1:01 of the trailer?

He's asking about the viewer watching the doctors work on Big Boss and Kaz. Were seeing from the perspective of a third party who we don't know who it is yet.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Loving the prosthetic arm on Big Boss, just like Galvez's. This is going to be amazing.

I'd be really surprised if HT doesn't cash in on this.

Somebody hurry up with a hospitalized Big Boss custom!

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I don't recall Big Boss was ever supposed to have a prosthetic arm:cuckoo:

Honestly I'm growing tired of Big Boss. He used to be this mythical character that we knew almost nothing about and then he got the best possible background with Snake Eater.

Now it's got to the point where he's actually much more important than Solid himself.

Give a me a remake of the first MG games with young Solid and maybe Liquid and I'll be the happiest fan on earth.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Well we had the sculpts done, so now after finally more info we can begin. Elvis1976 and I have already been working stuff out for the past few months.

Couldn't agree more. Big Boss is just plain boring and uninteresting anymore. The more we see Big Boss, the more retcons there are.

And Kojima is ****ing up the continuity of the franchise by having technology WAY more advanced in the 70's then it should be.

Solid Snake will always be greater than Big Boss hands down. Big Boss's appearance in Snake Eater should of been a one and done.

I believe MSX remakes with Solid Snake are inevitable at this point since Kojima has been inching the timeline with these sequels ever closer to Outer Heaven and Zanzibar.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Personally I love Big Boss! I agree though, Metal Gear Solid needs more Solid.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The gap between MGS1 and MGS4 was 10 years and they are the only "Solid" Solid Snake games. It's unfair the favoritism towards overrated Big Boss at this point.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

All I know is I want more MGS 1/6 figures! I'm sure even if we don't see an HT release for this we will get some sort of bootleg like Metal Boss.

Exciting times my friends.

I dont think Solid was ever really that important though. Nowhere near Big Boss. Not story wise at least. We played as him so we could be in the MG world and watch things and stories and people unfold around us. But he himself was always depicted as just a grunt. A clone of Big Boss, who knows little to nothing about the past, whats going on in the present and quite often cocks things up because on face value the " bad guys " plans are evil. We saw with MGS2 you could put anybody in Snakes role (Raiden) and the story would be the same. You go through the entire game taking orders, barely knowing whats going on and dispatch the bad guys as you go along.

I prefer Big Boss over Solid because you get the feel while you are playing as him you have free will, and you will be the one who changes the future and all that stuff. With Snake it gets old fast knowing that you are basically just a pawn. And that you will get jipped out of a Big Boss status of your own because in MGS 4 you are aged 150 and still just doing grunt work.

What? Snake broke free post Shadow Moses, and started Philanthropy, which is sort of his mini Outer Heaven minus an army.

If anything, Snake was more relateable than Big Boss simply because he strives for a normal life, which he constantly mentions. Had it his way, he'd be in Alaska with his dogs. doing carpentering work and posting here on the Sideshow forums. I never got that impression from Big Boss, he seems more and more distant as time goes on.

That may be true, but Snake is the pinnacle of a badass.

I actually can't wait until we reach that point, where we get the MG & MG2 remake. Hopefully they'll follow straight up with a MGS1 remake
